In the last 5 years or so, I’m sure at some point you’ve seen all three of these guys pop up on your KZbin feed for their insane highlights, in hyped video of how much of a sensation they are on the high school level, most comments deeming them the next great point guard of the future. KZbin sensation took off where the term prodigy left off, and has birthed some big names over the years as far as hype is concerned. But if we’ve learned anything in the past decade about that process, it’s not every player you see KZbin video creators and comment sections make out to be the next big thing, turn out to be anything close to that. Today’s feature is the story of what happened to 3 guys that if you only went by their KZbin hype, were supposed to be future NBA stars. Mikey Williams leading the charge, was even signed by Puma, the first high schooler to ever be given such an endorsement. Noah Farrakhan was the cool kid with the hops and dance moves perfect for the bright lights and sport center top plays. And Ronaldo Sego, aka Rondo, who hesied his way into much fanfare. All are taking different, unexpected routes to the NBA. Where Are These KZbin Sensations Now? Mikey Williams, Ronaldo Segu, Noah Farrakhan Stunted Growth

A big problem is these guys feel themselves way too much before they ever do anything. The first real reality check they get is not making it to the NBA or not having the success they imagined. By the time they grasp they’re shortcomings or see themselves fall behind it’s too late; all the guys they were better than in high school or college worked hard and developed something while a lot of these highlight hoppers get complacent. A huge part of being great is knowing how to work from a disadvantage, come back better from losses, and accept the need to grow. All of this is born out of humility.

The problem I always saw with Mikey was that he showed early signs of filling out. I'm 6'2" and have been so since the age of 16, but was much more slender than him. Yet we both have rather short arms, so that combined with his muscularity did not bode well. Much of his game is predicated on overpowering skinny teenagers. Segu is probably the best pro candidate out of the three.

That's what happens when high schoolers are treated like celebrities in America. No high school sport treats their athletes like celebrities like high school basketball players get treated. They don't know how to work when they get a million followers. When they get to college, they get exposed by normal guys who know how to play college level ball. After that, they want to transfer to a coach who favors them like that's the reason lmao. That's not how the real world works let alone the NBA. Some guys have it, but the vast majority of guys who are famous in high school will become less than average NBA players who no one talks about anymore. It's crazy to me, as a European, how American kids can transfer to all these different high schools just to play a sport, and in the hopes that they will get drafted in the NBA. They have no respect and then everyone wonders why they couldn't make it lmao. It's easy to play against normal kids who know they won't make the NBA in high school, but when you put these kids in a concentrated environment where everyone is there because they have skill, they get exposed.

I don’t think it’s dead. More like, exacerbated. Much to the fault of pages like BIL and OT riding the hype train earlier and earlier. I hope I don’t sound nostalgic, but it felt like older BIL wasn’t as…clout-y? Same thing with hoopmixtapes. It went from only the best players getting mixtapes and highlights, to literally anyone that would show their face on cam and head-tap, cross, or dunk.
@skproductions8495
@skproductions8495 10 ай бұрын
@@sosmooth13 i get what you’re saying it’s definitely true that anyone can look nice on a bil tape now, when i was a kid (well over a decade ago) most the mixtapes i watched are guys that eventually made it to the league and became stars or at least had solid pro careers. but since bil and others allowed players to just pay to get on or pay in clout, it hasnt held the same weight at all…

I think Mikey Williams will have the most promising career because he is the best but it is also about network. His father's Vertical Academy has given Trey Parker a spotlight. He is now on Drifty Elite with Bryce James. Mikey has also played with Bronny. Also he started with Overtime that created the Overtime Elite. Look at Emoni Bates who left Memphis for EMU, got a gun charge and still got drafted. If your network is big enough, they will find a spot for you.

Mikey Williams being a shorter scoring guard reminds me of Donovan Mitchell, who's also a shooting guard in a 6'1 body. What is it that separates Mikey from D. Mitch as undersized 2 guard prospects? The only thing I could think of between Donovan and Mikey is Donovan's more explosive as well as having a long wingspan that allows him to play much bigger than he actually is. When I see Donovan on the court, he looks to be around 6'4, which was surprising when i found out he was barely 6'1. Mikey, even though he's listed to be an inch taller at 6'2, seems smaller compared to Donovan. Other than that, what else am I missing on their differences as prospects as to why Donovan became a top Nba prospect? Based purely on basketball standpoint and not his off court issues, does Mikey has the same potential as an undersized 2-guard similar to Donovan Mitchell?

@johndavis9321
@johndavis9321 10 ай бұрын
You basically nailed is any undersized player has to have attributes/intangibles that make up for the lack of height for Donovan Mitchell his is big bodied (pause) as you mentioned has a ridiculous wingspan for his size and is a great athlete all that helps to make up for his lack of great 2 guards size along with that Donovan has shown to be an elite scorer whereas that will ultimately be the biggest question with Mikey will he be able to score enough to make up for his lack of size we have seen him score well at the high school level but if we're being honest dude played the majority of his hs ball at a public school in San diego so he really wasn't going to be tested most nights can Mikey score and importantly score efficiently now that the defenders are more athletic, longer, and stronger? We shall see
@royalace2271
@royalace2271 10 ай бұрын
@@johndavis9321Yes, Mikey hasn't been tested every night against his competition. Mikey can score, but can he do it efficiently? D. Mitch, despite his size, is an extremely explosive player that can get to the rim at will. On top of that, D. Mitch also has shooting range and can knock down long 3s with consistency. I don't see Mikey having that consistent range like D. Mitch. D. Mitch build and athleticism reminds me of young D. Wade but a few inches shorter. Both has explosive first step, strong body, and extremely long wingspan compared to their height.

I constantly was questioning Mike Williams and why everywhere i went, on social meadia, why so much hype on him. And I looked like he nice but i seen dennis smith jr. All over him tbh.. i hope he will become great and shut me up. But it definitely smelt like hype on him

also the physical build is just one part theres sooooooo many players that are skinny af and produce in the NBA, thats just a simple rebuttal for why certain players dont make it. people that ignore the large amount of players that are skinny in the NBA and produce, dont recognize it, they think they are making good points

Simple answer no to the NBA, can they play professional overseas or make money off of basketball yes. All under 6'5 and various issues. NBA scouts are paid for a reason.

Yeah but scoot Henderson is under 6'5 and got drafted top 3 to be clear I am NOT putting Mikey, Noah, or segu in the same category as scoot but we gotta stop this narrative about height being this huge factor it definitely matters but their are still dudes 6'4 6'3 and even shorter getting drafted the average height in the league has actually gone down since the 90's
