I’m very happy to have gone here in December 2023. I have a video up of my time there, posted in month of my visit. Happy to have seen my favorite electrics

1:37 I have a new-old stock Atlas O scale 3 rail version of 4402. I should bring it up there at some point and get a picture of the two together. I've also got the pretty gosh darn rare matching 3 pack of Comet II cars all in their original individual boxes as well as the outer box that holds all 3 together. I've actually seen both of the non cab car Comet IIs IRL albeit renumbered because of the refresh in 2002. 5610 ->5300 (I actually rode a train that had 5300 but sadly the car was blocked off to riders.) I did get to touch 5300 though and the conductor thought my story was super cool about having the exact model) and 5657 -> 5347. The cab car from the set, 5147, became 5443 which I don't believe I've seen but I'm gonna keep an eye out for it now to get pictures of all three.

Thats definitely a rare train you have in o scale, rarely see them anymore and yes of course you should definitely snag a pic of the two together before these meet their doom later on

Service dates such as air tanks, air brake overhaul , COTS and other dates are required to be stenciled by federal law
@JerseyRailProductions2 ай бұрын
Yes and for obvious good reasons, would want to make sure everyone is aware of service dates clear and visibly

I guess you can dump them in the ocean and use for artificial reef

That would be a great idea!

It's a damn shame to see them rotting away and tagged like it's nobody's business. I suspect NJ Transit's waiting for the price of scrap metal to rise before these units finally meet the torch. That's probably the only reason they haven't been scrapped yet. Hey, the KZbin algo-rythym just threw this video at me. Your channel looks promising, as an old Jersey Guy now living in "exile" in Virginia I'll be checking it out!

Thank you Wayne!!! It is maddening almost to see all that equipment go to waste but am pretty sure they were rendered basically useless after being flooded during a storm in hoboken or somewhere lol. Hopefully you enjoy my channel as I center it around New Jersey based trains, especially North Jersey ones, Cheers from Jerz!
@wayneantoniazzi27065 ай бұрын
@@JerseyRailProductions Yeah, I'd guess those units were also stripped of anything useable or immediately saleable like copper cabling before they were shoved onto that deadline. It seems pretty obvious NJT doesn't care who goes into them at this point. And cheers back-atcha!
@cjc_0167Ай бұрын
From what I understand (not an expert) they were retired because they could not pull the double decker rail cars efficiently. The problem now is that NJT received money from the feds to buy these. Long story short....NJT needs to settle their debt (20 million $$) w/ the feds B4 they can be scrapped.

They have lots of things to do and take of indeed i cant disagree!
@JerseyRailProductions28 күн бұрын
And yes I believe they couldn’t keep up with the other newer locos being better at pulling more cars so they got side lined sadly

Just found your channel. As a juice fan i think those responsible for putting these ALPs out here are morons. These electrics are not old by electric locomotive standards and in Europe electric locomotives serve far longer in front line service. It comes to mind how some railroads rebuilt steam locomotives back in the day, sometimes making a completely different machine out of the parts. My idea of rebuilding these would be making B-B-B units out of them; can't beat the six powered axles when pulling heavy trains. Back in 1976 EMD came up with such a locomotive named GM10B; 10000hp freight unit.
