Hey Aimee, I just heard your record played on the Jamie Cullum jazz show on BBC Radio 2 here in the UK. You’ve hit the big time! Sounded great...

DID HE REALLY DO THAT?!! Thank you for telling me! Woohoo!!
@teknodriver4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Nolte Music He really did! And he said some lovely things. He’s a fan. I’ll see if I can clip it for you (although my techno skills are diminishing by the year so I may have to ask the kids to do it...).
@teknodriver4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Nolte Music I’ve just seen on Twitter that you found Jamie’s show (no need for me to send a clip of it). Really interesting that he’s played by ear all this time and is only now picking up the theory! And that he’s picking it up off your channel - he could do a lot worse. I enjoy your channel too, just a shame I don’t play as well as either of you but I’m having a great time learning. Keep it up Aimee... Love from the UK. Michael

I miss the bass player too but not as much as I miss a live audience. Dark times for artists. Thanks for lifting the gloom.

Omg! I could listen to you play 🎹 all day. I’m ready to call you my lifelong jazz piano teacher. My sons are still young in elementary and they both should learn from you. I wasn’t playing jazz until college (started in gospel) but I LOVE what you’re doing and I can follow it to the T! Btw, I’ve never had the luxury of playing consistently with a bass player who was into jazz for some reason. But I love being able to chord left hand on the rare occasion I can play with a bassist

Great video. Thanks for exploring this! I’m a bassist since 1984 so I can appreciate!
@BillyMcBride4 жыл бұрын
That sounds pretty good. What I like to do is to play basically octaves with the left hand, and do similar melodies with the right so that I get deeper sounds within the counterpoint. I suppose I enjoy the harmonies of left hand chords, but much more the melodies I enjoy, so I do not value the chords on the left as much. Keep up your good work, Aimee.

I love this lesson, Amy. One of my favorite pianist is Fred Hersch who uses the whole piano a lot of the time. However his trio days demonstrates incredible versatility with rootless voicing and soloing. I’ve been getting quite caught up in playing the whole piano, but I really need to get back to working on rootless voicings. Keep creating! You keep inspiring me for the content I create on my channel...I aspire to bring the high quality that you do.

I love using PG Music's Band in a Box (BIAB). It's available for Windows and Mac. You can choose a variety of styles. It will never replace the real deal (love awesome bass players!), but it is a wonderful practice tool.

As a bass player I’m hearing the groove in my head and I love it cousin! Not sure if you meant it this way but I hear a Guaraldi(ish) ending. You play wonderfully!! You and the fam stay healthy and stay strong! OK.... I haven’t warmed the tubes or tuned the strings in a very long time, but I just did. That’s a fun one. Thank you 🤗

Do you think playing without a root can make your ear learn faster or slower? I very often remind my self of the immagined base by playing it as it is very reassuring.

TJ Edwardz - LOL, where did you find a drummer or guitarist with that attitude? 😅
@goonyougoodthing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Aimee. I love your chanel. I'm a guitarist. I have just been accepted to a teaching degree and my course head said I should learn piano. I have a strong theory background and I find it frustrating how all the resources for beginner pianists are aimed at non-musicians and assume I dont know things like what middle C or a crotchet is. Would you consider doing a ' non-pianists ' guide to piano ? Things like exercises to build hand independence or go to patterns for comping?
@AimeeNolte4 жыл бұрын
Start with your major scales, Craic. I have a video about that. Those are the key to everything!
@jimkangas41764 жыл бұрын
For voicings you might check out "Jazz Piano Voicings for Non-Pianists" (I think Aebersold sells it); it was written by a horn player. I am also a guitarist and want to do some keyboard stuff, so I feel your pain - I know the notes I want to play but I have no technique.
@matthewgoldberg14614 жыл бұрын
I, too am a reformed guitarist whom Aimee is converting to piano. Jim Kangas is referring to a book by Mike Tracy that Aebersold sells. It relies on lots of examples in various Aebersold play-along tracks. I prefer a more stand-alone book called "Jazz Keyboard for Pianists and Non-Pianists" (kind of covers everybody!) by Jerry Coker on Alfred Books. Keep flatting those fifths!
@jimkangas41764 жыл бұрын
@@matthewgoldberg1461 good to know. Thanks!
@Photologistic4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you pretty much have to know standard notation for any serious degree program. It’s tough for guitarists, as standard notation seems of little help on guitar.
