40, yes 4 0 yrs of drinking and finally made it past 6 months (6 months & 19 days) After several attempts w/no support system. You have to want this for yourself, no one else can make this happen. The demons are real, and sometimes overwhelming, however 1 day at a time, keep moving forward. I know there is light on the other side of the darkness we call hell…. Keep up the good fight! Thank you Jae for this Chanel, your “work” means more than you will ever know.

Another great video!!! I’m so grateful for this community. Sobriety comes with a lot of gifts, also the humility of cleaning up the wreckage and not a lot of understanding from others. 2.5 years later, I Look back on the journey and say wow! Mine included the worst depression for months… it takes a lot of work to stick it out. Today I still take it a day at a time, I just focus on today. I no longer wake up feeling terrible. I get to wake at 5am and work out and enjoy my mornings! I get to focus on goals instead of waiting out feeling bad. I lost both my parents, I don’t need to drink over it. Thankyou for your videos!!! Hope to hear from you.

I'm on day 2 of getting sober...again! Went six months last year without a drink so I know I can do it again. It gets lonely and boring at times so I try and keep busy. Things seem to fall into place for me though when I'm not in my beer cans and I make other activities like exercise more of a priority. Sure is nice to not have a depleted checking account too wondering where all of my hard earned money went.

I've been watching your videos for a couple of months and they have really helped me towards sobriety. I'm a flawed perfectionist and my fear of screwing my sobriety up leads me to screwing my sobriety up! I just watched the October video where you said 'practice makes progress' and told your story of not being successful at the beginning; really resonated with me. I actually felt a little better about myself and shut down the mental chatter ( for a moment or two, I'll take it) telling me that I'll never make it to sobriety and will forever be a binge drinker, 'that's just the way that I am; have been and always will be'. Thanks for your videos, I feel like for once I have a community where I fit in. Again, thank you, Jae.
@GettingSoberAgain
@GettingSoberAgain 3 ай бұрын
absolutely! I'm very familiar with the feelings of hopelessness and helplessness and anxiety and depression and guilt and shame that all comes along with overly obsessing about perfection. in today's society, everything's on the menu and there are way too many options. there are way too many distractions, phone notifications, and too much marketing. all trying to fight for our time, our dollar, and our loyalty. every single one of us is going to end up on a sobriety detour, and it's always important to remember that we're just practicing. That even your doctor practices and sometimes they kill people. your favorite basketball players only make a percentage of the shots that they make, your favorite baseball. players are considered All-Stars with a batting average of .300 quarterbacks missed passes, and running backs fumble the ball. But what they don't do is just quit. we get back to practicing, we learn from our mistakes, and we apply those lessons to a future situation so that we know where to zig when we zagged, and next time we actually zig instead of zag.

I am 1 week sober today! 🎉 I did actually hang out with my 2 friends on Friday, and they drank 🍷 as usual and I just had juice. I actually was not tempted like I thought I would be to drink! Probably because I am actively changing my mindset about all the terrible effects of alcohol {I’m reading “Alcohol Explained” by William Porter and it’s quite good!} But it’s so interesting to be acutely alert and aware of everything that my friends were saying, and noticing just how negative, critical & toxic they were, not about me, but others. Was their toxicity from the alcohol? Or just deep inside of them? I don’t know, but I really did not enjoy hanging out with them. The problem is, I don’t have any other friends here. Have you ever done a video on where to find new (maybe sober?) friends? Thanks for your videos Jai! 🙏✨💖

I don't necessarily think we have to limit ourselves to people who are strictly sober as much as we need to limit ourselves as you say, to people who are toxic while intoxicated. I made a friend recently playing pool who carries around (no joke) a pitcher of water with 2 straws in it, while he drinks his single glass of red wine. I didn't even know you could order an entire pitcher of water for yourself lol. Drinking can be done responsibly for some, but unfortunately for a lot of folks...it's a Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde situation.

About eight months not drinking. Was afraid of the upcoming summertime to be tempted to a cold one but I'll definitely won't as I'm kinda a cold one myself, I mean, coughing all the time and having problems to sleep, absolutely doesn't make me want a beer or anything that contains alcohol. There may be one buddy who'll freak out when he finds out I'm sober and won't break it for the sake of tasting another tasty IPA, stout, whatnot. I'm just too long into that to give it up. I don't care if he doesn't understand anyway. We used to have tea and snacks with my previous band I've left behind due to my departure from the country and those were my true friends, no drinking needed to be creative, productive, compassionate and to treat each other with respect and kindness.

My husband and adult sons’ idea of a good time has to include alcohol. I’m committed to my sobriety and have no desire to hang out in the old local bars and music venues anymore because they really trigger me (I’m on day 38). I don’t have FOMO but I do feel like they think I’m boring now, because most of the time I just stay home when they decide to go out for drinks, music, pool, etc. I go to bed early, wake up early (and BTW I’m loving that!) and I’m not a part of the social life anymore. I’m also avoiding a ton of the drama that alcohol brings, and I’m hoping they’ll start to notice that more than thinking I’m “missing out” on the so-called fun.

Hey gang. I'm in my first week of my first ever attempt and feeling much different in good and bad ways already. My question is; what's the stance on near beer? It's helping me a ton and was wondering other people's perspective or experience. Good luck to everyone and thanks!

This is the best video I’ve seen yet on your channel. I’m approaching 6 months now. Most of my friends are actually cool with me not drinking; however when I told one - the response was “no way lol. F*** me like” before sending pics of him and the wife drinking. Haven’t spoken since. Next big challenge was a vacation in Italy. My wife still drinks and is super supportive to my decision. Culture there is wine/beer with dinner and I got some judgemental looks from waiters (very rarely I will say) but I never gave in despite that being the biggest temptation yet. Last week I had the toughest week in work for several years. Old me would have 100% opened the whisky. Instead I went to my kickboxing gym for a personal training session. In October I’m going on a trip with 3 friends and now feel confident we can go to bars, catch up and have a laugh without me wanting to order alcohol. I feel better now than I have in the post two decades and this is the biggest positive in making me want to continue this journey.

I have been trying to quit drinking for the last 6/7 months, couldn't do it, then I found this channel! I made it 5 days, then had a beer and a shot..... The next day I bought 2 beers and 6 damn shots, blacked out and kicking my self in the ass because I don't even know who I talked to 😢😢. I hate this 😢, and of course I just went to the store and bought a beer and 3 shots. I'm telling myself since I fucked up, might as well go out with a bang and today is THE LAST DAY 🎉

I have struggled with alcohol for years. I've been quiting for years. My efforts have been met with nothing but failure. Two days sober then celebrate with 10 cans , right myself off and do another two days. I got off heavy beers and got on the mid strength beers. The same thing was applied and the cycle rebirthed into buy more beer just to keep on the same levels the heavys had me at. When I was told I could never be a father after having a micro-tese I haven't had a drink for 32 days. My mates are very supportive and always say "you're a better man then me , I could never do it" my day to day struggle continues but instead of coming home and face fucking 8 cans after building houses for rich snobby wankers I jump on a rowing machine for 45 minutes and drown myself in sweat and finish it off with a litre of water. You know the stat about teenage boys thinking about sex , that's how much I still think about beer, it still rules the main circuits of my mind but hey over time I'm sure it will fade. If you're current friends don't support you or don't wanna be around you cos you're sober they might as well just fuck off anyway. Cheers from Australia.

My husband is a heavy drinker too. He’s been pretty supportive of my sobriety but I also think deep down he resents losing his best drinking buddy. It definitely feels like we don’t have as much in common anymore. I’m hoping he will eventually get sick and tired of being sick and tired, and my being sober will make it easier for him to jump on board.

I stopped drinking 1/12/24 after five years of binge drinking and I just feel so isolated and bored. I work from home, just bought a house in the country outside of Dallas not close to any family and friends. I still socialize while gaming with college/childhood friends but it's not fun sober. I have two-year-old twin girls and enjoy playing with them every day, but damn I've been super social my whole life and this isn't it, but I feel stuck. I have no desire to go back to drinking but I'm just tapped out and have no drive. Every day is the same boring shit that I never wanted to grow up and do or be a part of this corporate hamster wheel.

What do you do when your spouse is a heavy drinker/alcohol abuser? Most of our activities involve drinking. When I said I am taking a break from alcohol he looked at me like I had grown another head.
