Sax Squared. I think it would be cool if you could do a 2 superscript though instead of writing out squared.

Conn-Selmer saxophones have never really grabbed my attention like Yamaha, Yanagisawa or Selmer saxophones, but I did have a Conn-Selmer Avant DSS-200 straight soprano for over a year. I liked it but ended up selling it as I found it a bit hard to hold and play for long periods without feeling my right hand getting a little sore. I have played on every make of Legere saxophone and clarinet reeds over the past 5 and a half years and recently got two French Cut alto sax reeds. I compared them to my Signature, American Cut and Classic reeds. I played one on a Selmer Claude Delangle mouthpiece and one on a Meyer G 5M with my Yani AWO2. The French cut is darker than the American and Signature which I prefer as I sometimes found them a little bright sounding for me and want a darker tone. I found the Classic reed in the same strength as the French cut was more resistant. I have noticed that Legere reeds can sound a little thinner in the higher notes than cane reeds, but the French cut didn't sound as thin to me, and they mostly even tone throughout the range. So far I like these reeds and not just for classical playing.

I love the behind the scenes aspect of this channel, so maybe something like "Behind the Sax"

I'm 73 now but back when I was in 4th grade, we had a class trip to the Conn Band Instrument factory in Elkhart, Indiana. Quite interesting to see how the instruments were made. I've also played the Conn 650/651/652 theatre organs and the Conn-Kimball 653 organ.

As a repair tech, when I hear “Conn-Selmer” I think terrible finishing-sloppy key fitting, undeveloped tone holes, not enough shellac to float, terrible customer service. So this is a hard pass for me. I’ve heard other techs complain about quality control of the Supremes, but I have no first-hand experience. I will say that when I heard that they’ve decreased the size of the pad cups, I cringed. Pads won’t seal as long. Once they start to harden in the least bit, they’ll need to be replaced. Yamaha side keys are notorious for this. The seat of the tone hole is less than 2mm from the edge of the pad. Makes it harder to get a proper seal even on a new pad. I’d say most tenors have 3-5mm to the edge. What would you say the supremes have? Would suck if you have to rebuild your horn every 5 years or so. I have 22 years on my Reference 36 with only the typical closed pads replaced, save for when my strap came undone and I had to replace C, B, Bis and A after straightening the body. Thanks for posting all the great videos you do. Would be nice to hear more from a tech’s point of view. ;)

Never been to Derby but loved the visual. I bet they wish they had that kind of skiing. Btw it is crap here in San Diego so LA has to be worse. It might feel like home when you arrive.

I have a Conn-Selmer 710 tenor and a 1962 Selmer Mark VI in mint conditions. I’m switching between the two. Except for that the Conn-Selmer is a little heavier, I can’t rather hear or feel any differences. No wonder. We are all playing on a Mark VI, a professional player told me. The Mark VI is the best saxophone ever made, so why not use that design. There must be a lot of communication between Selmer Paris and Conn-Selmer which is now changing name? What I’m sure about that there is no relationship between price and performance when comparing saxophones from 1000 USD and up.
