Everytime I see Wendy with the blonde hair I think snow fairy and it's your fault!! This format was nice. Seulgi, say it like sewl-gee with a hard g. You have to remember they are known as the concept queens as they do not really have one concept and its always different. Everything they do just works. The 2022 medley would be Feel My Rhythm (you will gush over it I am sure), Wildside (JPOP song) and Birthday (Just released a month ago). They also have behind the scenes for each song. First year medley would be Happiness (their debut song from 2014 before Yeri officially joined), Be Natural and then Ice Cream Cake where Yeri officially debuts. Mind you they have a video for Automatic then as well you should not miss. In Russian Roulette the ladies are vying for the same guy apparently and are trying to get each other out of the way. Irene wins which is shown by being shot with the heart. Remember it is cartoon violence thusly the cartoons involved. Just so you know they are officially known as witches in the SM Concept Universe. You see that in Queendom.

yay! i've been waiting for you to react to some of their music. fun fact they actually sing the adlibs towards the end of peek-a-boo live during performances. if you have time I recommend watching their behind the scene video of they're recording of Feel My Rhythm and Birthday cos they are serving vocals there, I think you'll enjoy those types of contents. You can see how much work they put on the backing vocals and layering, and how much Wendy takes the lead during recording and how much her members respect her opinion and ideas regarding vocal direction. Also since you love Wendy, try checking out the song Time After Time it was just released last month it's a collab for their label's winter album, Wendy sang with Boa who's the original artist of the song Milky Way and Ningning of aespa another great vocalist. It's such a great song that is vocal heaven

Well, I love Red Velvet, so this was an absolute joy to watch. I’d definitely like to see you tackle more of their stuff! Ice Cream Cake is actually very harmonically interesting; would encourage you to try that. Really Bad Boy has some incredible vocal range and ‘dolphin notes’. Dumb Dumb and Rookie also great tracks! Also check out their latest hit Birthday; the layering is amazing. They published a ‘behind the scenes/recording’ video for Birthday - and to see their techniques for layering and Wendy in the studio may be worth a video by itself.

Love that you are getting more into Red Velvet as they are recognized as one of the most vocally strong GG in Kpop along with Mamamoo so its fun to watch you enjoy and explain some of the technical aspects. Check out more of their Velvet side with Automatic, One of these nights and some of their Bsides like Kingdom come, Perfect 10 and So Good to hear a bit more variation on their tones and how good they are at playing with their voices and their strengths! Also if you can take a look at some of their recording behind the scenes! Love the content!

Even tho there’s much less creepy elements in Queendom, there’s still a couple subtle creepy things like when Seulgi is playing in the sand there’s a dead body half buried next to her and Joy goes from a smile to sinister glare before bringing her umbrella down at one point

Wendy recently did a live performance of the song "Time After Time" with 2 other amazing singers from her company, BoA and NingNing. I really recommend it! The husky/raspy voice of BoA is such a nice contrast to the bright and powerful voices of Wendy and NingNing. Sadly, the audio doesn't really have the crisp live quality to it since it was edited even though Wendy comfirmed they sang live >:( but the vocal gymnastics are still impressive and worth listening to.

Milky Way was the first ot5 content after Wendy's accident. You can see how happy they are to have her back. From left to right during Milky Way are Joy, Yeri, Irene, Seulgi then Wendy Queendom was their first official comeback a year after Milky Way and 20 months after the accident Queendom has a recording behind the scenes as does their 2 Korean comebacks "Feel My Rhythm" & "Birthday" Seulgi also released a solo ep recently

About Wendy's accident... Basically her whole being as human, be it body and mental is damaged. Thanks for reacting to this, Julia. Red Velvet is a pretty eclectic and special group. Unfortunately, ( and I'm saying this as a fan of the genre ) there are a LOT of Kpop groups that wouldn't have careers if it weren't for lip-syncing and auto-tune. It's acceptable there at a level that would absolutely not fly in America. Fortunately, SM Entertainment ( who RV is part of their roster ) care a bit more than most do about making sure their talent is properly trained before they debut. Vocally, Red Velvet and Mamamoo are pretty much top of the heap.

obligatory "Red Velvet has two 'sides' to their songs - a brighter, lighter concept (Red) and a more mature, R&B concept (Velvet)" comment. I really like you. The journey of thinking Joy has a thinner voice and then finding out she has the agility to go full and heavy. It’s funny coz she went from the rap duo then the vocal line throughout her RV days. I feel like your review is more genuine. I just watched another reviewer prior and i can see they’re just agreeing to get more of the fanbase to watch them. At least that’s the vibe i get. For the layers, if you watch their bts for their recordings, it’s mostly layering with their own voices tho… maybe watch In My Dreams coz they did that one live once. I’d be very much interested to hear your analysis on their live live. Cheers!

I really loved this binge analysis! I wish you could have more of these with red velvet 💖 Someone already explained but Red Velvet's songs are usually separated as being a "Red" or a "Velvet" track. It's also pretty common for RV songs to have really thick layers, i hope you could react to more of them! They have lots of great bsides that showcase more of their vocals too. If i could suggest a list of "velvet" tracks, i wish you could listen to Automatic (r&b), One Of These Nights (i think u will find this song pretty interesting :>), and La Rouge(!!! The richness of their vocals here is 😩 and wendy just goes offf w her runs) Speaking of wendy and her vocal greatness, she just had a song collab w queen Boa and Ningning of Aespa 😁 it's called Time After Time; the belts from the three of them there and the song in general is just amazinggggg maybe someday you'd be interested in reacting to it too! Very fun reaction! And these actually aren't even close to being their most interesting songs, vocal or songwriting-wise. If you react to them again, in regard to their title tracks with MVs, I definitely recommend Dumb Dumb, Feel My Rhythm, One Of These Nights, Really Bad Boy, Sappy. If you're interested in some of their album-tracks (K-pop tends to be focused on the title tracks, but RV is especially known for having consistently great and varied albums) I recommend Kingdom Come, Don't U Wait No More, La Rouge, Cool Hot Sweet Love, Light Me Up, Red Dress, Butterflies, Sassy Me, Lucky Girl, Look, Sunny Side Up... honestly way too many to mention, but you can't go wrong with any of them. Also adding my vote for their behind the scenes recording videos. They have them for Feel My Rhythm, Queendom and Birthday, and it's like 20-30 minutes of them just recording their lines in the studio. And the extra cool thing is that a fan then took and edited and stacked together all of their separate lines from the recording videos into full "recording versions" of the songs. That could be interesting, to react to the original music video, then to the recording process, and finally to the "recording version" and compare.

So, Red Velvet’s concept is actually that they’re always changing concepts! They never give us exactly the same thing twice. Their concepts are classified as either Red (bright, bubbly, poppy, etc.) or Velvet (dark, sultry, R&B, etc.). Here’s their title tracks in order so you can see how they bounce around: 2014… -(Debut) Happiness R -Ice Cream Cake R -Automatic V -Dumb Dumb R -One Of These Nights V -Russian Roulette R -Rookie R -Red Flavor R -Peek A Boo V -Bad Boy V -#CookieJar V -Power Up R -RBB V -Sappy R -Zimzalabim* -Umpah Umpah R -Psycho V -Monster V -Queendom R -Feel My Rhythm* -Wildside V -Birthday R -ChiII KiII V *There’s a lot of debate as to whether or not Zimzalabim and Feel My Rhythm are one or the other. So, I classify them as both lol But yeah, they’re constantly changing up their concepts, genres, production styles, etc. Being a vocal group, like Mamamoo, they’re able to explore multiple aspects of music. And “Feel My Rhythm” is like a thank you song to music and all it encompasses ❤️ Edit: I forgot to include “Wildside”. Their Japanese releases are wicked underrated and don’t get the acknowledgment they deserve.

it's actually nice you took note of their rapping, i agree completely! as someone who have been following their vocal progress enthusiastically, i thought it would be interesting to share that they've actually started to give more depths and complexities to their rapping sections, especially since 2023. tracks like wildside, bye bye and beg for me are stand outs. of course rap definitely not their forte, but it's great hearing them constantly improving and doing new things with their voices. cheers!

I enjoy this format 👌 but am trying to imagine this format using all of red velvets behind the studio even the ones of just one/two members

As a musician with a degree in it, I really love how you go into more detail with your captions. I'm not a vocalist so I love the honest & technical take you give us. This can be absent in a lot of other "vocalist reacting to" genres! As for their harmonies, they've started to show us how they record their songs behind the scenes ("Queendom", "Feel My Rhythm", & "Birthday"). Each member generally records their own harmonies on top of their individual melody vocal line. Sometimes they use other members to sing the other's harmonies - as you said, for vocal layer texturing. When it gets to group chorus, usually each member records each harmony. So you're getting 5 voices singing the main melody, & 5 voices singing each harmony. So definitely you get a small choir going with the layers at that point. When it comes to singing live, they often use back tracking for all the extra harmonies & they only sing the main melody. They DO sing the ad libs live though.

Loved this as a reaction concept. Not familiar with Red Velvet prior to this but enjoyed it nonetheless.

If you’re going to react to some more of red velvets songs, I’d definitely recommend One of these nights!! It’s one of their older songs and not their most popular but it’s a ballad full of just beautiful vocals (and Wendy has bright pink hair)
