I grew up obsessed with images from Fruits magazine. Visual kei and oshare kei first promoted my interest in fashion as a kid, as the looks seemed MADE for the hard rock, pop punk, post hardcore, and emo I was listening to. Fast forward many years and I still love that music but admittedly don't rock that style. I've been thinking about pulling the trigger and buying some editions of Popeye, so I'm glad I came across this video.

Great video! I always grab whatever issues of Popeye that are still in stores whenever I visit Tokyo. The only downside is is that the overall level of style and fashion in Tokyo leaves a lot to be desired when I return home to North America. Although it's not for everyone, the bright graphics and catalog aesthetic of Popeye make legacy fashion publications look dull and uninspiring, and their photoshoots contrived and unglamorous.

Wow. Doing research on Popeye magazine for my final. This video was great! Don’t know how it doesn’t have much more views - especially since this magazine is a staple in menswear fashion print, especially in nyc.

I love Popeye magazine!!! Originally I was looking for magazines to make a collage out of for a project. I stumbled upon Popeye in a bookstore and was pleasantly surprised that it was already everything I was looking for in terms of collage type inspiration ( I couldn't cut up such a well designed magazine). Thanks for making a more in depth video on it's origins. So fascinating!!

It’s named for Popeye the Sailorman too! I’ve got a Popeye mag in the living room.

Wow. Learning about something as charming as Popeye is a gift. I'm surprised I never came across it before but do glad I have now - my interest and inspo for picking up design and illustration just instantly crystallised. This is one of those new KZbin recommendations where I swear it was suggesting another big channel's trending video to me. Really surprised at your subscriber count! Keep it up, this is awesome!
