That’s not what the numbers say, they’re all packed up in trinidad looking for employment opportunity. Nobody moves to jamaica, there’s no economic prospect there since Jamaicans are all running away from there looking for livelihood. inflation is high and the unemployment rate is very high. These are all pop culture responses, and not based in reality. Yes maybe jamaica for a vacation, visit etc, but for actual living?? the numbers show that there are way more Africans running to trinidad and barbados for economic opportunity. I wish that wasn’t the case because the last I went to trinidad I found it to be over saturated with foreigners, and people from the other side of the globe, speaking different languages and who wasn’t familiar with our Caribbean culture. I can’t see Africans moving to jamaica, unless they are independently well off and can start a business there, or maybe they have a government to government arrangement for employment exchange purposes. Jamaica is no doubt picturesque and beautiful, but their unemployment rate is the highest in the English speaking Caribbean, and inflation is through the roof, not to mention that Jamaicans are running away from jamaica seeking employment opportunities wherever it can be found. These kids have no clue.

I don’t know where you get your information from. Jamaica have a very low unemployment rate lower than Canada where I live. Yes most jobs held by Jamaicans are low paying not because there are not a lot good paying jobs in Jamaica but because most Jamaicans don’t have the required skills to be hired in the better paying jobs. Hence we have many higher skilled and educated people from the Caribbean and the rest of the world working and living in Jamaica there are over 10000 Nigerians alone in Jamaica a few thousand Trinidadians etc. The difference between Jamaican migration to the rest of the Caribbean and The rest of the Caribbean migration to Jamaica is that they attract our unskilled workers and we attract their skilled workers. We are also the biggest consumer of Trinidad non petroleum manufactured goods. If we stop buying an already troubled Trinidad economy would only get worse. You seem to be speaking on just emotions and defining a Jamaican economy of the 1990-2016

@@selvinlinton BTW I just googled Jamaicans unemployment rate and it’s 4.07 compared to trinidad 4.10, and it dawned on me, a good economy is not dictated by the unemployment rate, but by GDP. it might be that Jamaicans unemployment rate could be low for 2 reasons, half of your country is elsewhere in the world see,8ng emplonent elsewhere , it doesn’t necessarily mean that your economy is thriving, it could simply mean that more of your citizens are abroad, compared to say…trinidad or grenada who’s citizens don’t migrate not even half as much. it could also mean that since trinidad get so many people migrating there, the unemployment rate is even higher because jobs are being taken away from the local population, which mass migration more than likely is a sign of a thriving economy. No one migrates to a p,ace that lack opportunity. That’s crazy.
@selvinlinton
@selvinlinton 11 күн бұрын
@@anthonyblackman7669 I did not say Jamaica have a higher GDP than Trinidad.I Said that Jamaica economy is developing and has lots of opportunities for immigrants who are skilled and educated. Trinidad also has a higher GDP per capita than Guyana but no one in their right mind would say Trinidad have a better economy than Guyana. The point that I was making is that the Jamaica you described no longer exists. And while there has been a stagnation is Trinidad economy over the last decade there have been increased development in Jamaica. Telling African that Trinidad is a better place for them to live than Jamaica is a moot point since the largest ethnic group in Trinidad is South Asian from India while Jamaica is 95 percent black. Make sure to point that out to the viewers next time you compare Jamaica to Trinidad
