I live right by a Lake Erie tributary called the Black River. I always see alot of videos talking about lakes, ponds and reservoirs ect. Where do the bass go in a river? I stopped catching bass after it hit 49 degrees. Before that I was still catching them daily. They were chasing shad and I was having luck on crankbaits, flukes and poppers but then they just stopped biting after a cold front and I never caught another. Do they head out into Lake Erie? Most fishermen here switch to steelhead in the rivers when its colder.

For my small lake, would bass be close to the last of the dying plants or chunk rock? Both areas have deep water close by.
@Iascaire_tn11 ай бұрын
My guess would be that chunk rock, it absorbs heat and provides some structure. Issue with dying vegetation is the it lets off gasses.
@timdarnell781911 ай бұрын
Chunk rock. Lower oxygenation with the dying plants.

Can someone please explain to me the difference between a highland reservoir and a lowland reservoir? What are characteristics that highland reservoirs have that lowland reservoirs do not have, and vice versa? I’m not sure which type my lake might be. Any help would be appreciated!
@brianburns614011 ай бұрын
In low land reservoirs like Lake o the Pines in east Texas, they will be in the main channels when temps drop. Only a few buck bass will be on the flats. They will follow bait balls with catfish and crappie. If you aint livescoping you are hoping. This is fact. Better be throwing an A rig. They aint bitin nuthin else

Will fish go deep this time of year if the water is 1-2 feet visibility! My lake has a lot of good looking ledges and drains that are 30 feet deep and the water rarely is more than 2 feet of visibility

Bought me a Micro Flex precisely FOR late winter but need to wait for Michigan's ice-out. Most of your mini/micro flex videos, you guys are using small/light heads. How heavy can/should I go with the mini/micro jigheads, to get to the deep, late-winter bass? (guessing, need to get down to the 20-30' range)
@tacticalbassin11 ай бұрын
The mini is a full-wire rig. Meaning, you can throw 3/4 ounce if you want. The micro is lighter wire... I probably wouldn't go above 3/8 oz on the center wire only.

Hey Matt, I have a question. I’m getting a baitcaster but I’m stuck between getting a 7’5 heavy for frogging and heavier jigs/t-rigs. Or a 6’10 medium moderate for jerkbaits cranks and maybe weightless stick baits every now and then. What one do you think I should get. I have only one other bait caster that’s 7,3 mh and I live in upstate ny. Any help from anyone else is appreciated too
@vansaukam79911 ай бұрын
Get the 6'10" Med Moderate...it will allow for more flexibility in combo with your 7'3" MH...IMHO.
@colinmcgahee610511 ай бұрын
Consider what/where do you fish most? Personally I enjoy throwing jerks and cranks and treble hook baits and I did buy a dedicated setup but I rarely use it just because most of my fishing opportunities are bank fishing small lakes and ponds that are typically vegetation heavy and are better suited to other techniques. So go for the one you’ll get the most use out of based on where you usually get to fish. Other than that flip a coin. Good luck!

Is there any benefit to running 5 hooks on an A-rig? I’m in North Carolina and the regulations allow for 5 hooks. I know you guys tend to run 3. Just wondering if it would up my chances at doubles or even a triple.
@jayd253511 ай бұрын
The more hooks the higher the odds. Due to state regulations many of us are limited to two or three hooks.
@Mg093611 ай бұрын
I don’t think it makes a difference. They either bite the bottom two or the back one 99.99999 percent of the time. So if you buy a three wire rig just run three and I’m confident you won’t miss any fish. 👍🏻
