This question has been plaguing me since I've been back in India. Finally I decided to take to streets, and ask "woke" folks if they have the answers...

The problem is dairy does cause a problem for the bovines. Vegans talk about soy milk and almond milk which is not sustainable also. It's a dilemma we can change our dietary preferences by awareness. This gets me thinking is it possible to sustainably feed 7 billion people which is ever increasing in number. Green Algie is the solution of some sorts.

Most of the grain in the world is produced to feed animals. If people eat more plant based, there's more than enough food in the world to feed everyone. There's a recent Harvard study about it.

The problem is when we identify ourselves with a badge of proud Vegan or kattar Carnivore. Sustainability and bhutdaya should be our goal with a pinch of practicality. But Mr Robin there's one question even if people become vegan and there's reduction in dairy products consumption, let's say in India, do you really think it will stop the bad situation of cows or Buffalos. If stop cow farming how many farmers go hungry. Cow not only produce milk but dung is manure plus fuel. If you wants to be vegan you have to grow plants organic which needs manure. Did you know that ABS (Chitale) is addressing this in a big way ..by gender selection so that majority of the calves are female and of good genetic stock.. Having said that, it's also true that cows need to be pregnant to give milk - one solution for a country which grew up on "doodh dahi ka khana"could be adopting of cows/gaushala and ensuring good care of not only cows and bulls but also goat, sheep and camel. Registering cows and then penalising the owners who abandon male calves and old sick helpless cows could be one measure

With sexed semen you will have abundance of female calfs, and you'll see a lot of them abandoned too. Even right now people abandon female calfs too...as it takes raising them for 3 years before they can produce milk and fetch money
