Where does Echoes Of Wisdom fit into the Legend of Zelda timeline?

My thought if that EoW fits either after A Link Between Worlds (therefore sometime before the original Zelda) or (very unlikely) between the past of TotK (10,000 years back) and the past of BotW (100 years back). I'm also under the firm belief that BotW/TotK takes place in a split timeline caused by Link in Skyward Sword going back in time to destroy Demise and surviving, which in itself caused a split as the entire game was based on Link failing in the past & Zelda/Hylia sealing Demise.

Link fell down in the intro. It's definitely the Downfall Timeline. It is a prequel to ALttP since it shares the map. It's a sequel to OoT since we can still see the Deku Tree. So I think it's the first game on the branch. I believe the art style is merely reusing assets from the LA Remake, so it's unrelated/coincidental.

This detail combined with the appearance of the Deku and Gerudo points at Echoes of Wisdom taking place after Four Swords Adventures in the _Child Timeline._

Yeah. I concur with this. The Ganon link defeats is a fake, with it being a strategy by Ganon to trap the new Link in the Dark World to prevent him from wrecking his plans. I wonder if this Link will end up being Link’s uncle from ALTTP?

My interpretation is that this game takes place after AOL (Zelda 2) and Zelda 1. This is because Ganon would not be able to escape his imprisonment so early, as ALTTP is the first time Ganon escapes his seal by the sages and seizes the complete Triforce after OoT's downfall timeline beginning. Over time, ALBW And ALTTP's Hebra mountains (called this in japanese but in the american release as Death Mountain) froze over and is now extinct or dormant. Zelda's design is more similar to ALBW but has variety so is probably after ALBW. Link's shield isn't the same either as the royal crest differs from LA's remake. In AlttP, Ganon has yellow eyes, speaks and is intelligent. EoW's Ganon has red eyes and seems to be under control of another entity, like OoA and OoS as well as LOZ1 and AoL's Ganon. Both versions of Zora are seen but not in ALTTP or ALBW. These Ocean Zora ( seawater designed Zora) may have come from Labrynna after evacuating from Hyrule AGES ago. So, this game takes place after AoL and before ancient BotW.

Only problem with this theory is that Ganon isn’t sealed after Zelda 1….he’s specifically killed, since in Zelda II his minions are trying to resurrect him from the dead-and are unsuccessful since the blood of the hero is required to complete the ritual. So unfortunately, Ganon is meant to be dead, not sealed, at the end of the downfall timeline as it stands now. That said, it’s not like Ganon hasn’t actually been resurrected before (Oracle Games, e.g.) so I think a little more thinking and you have a pretty good theory here!

we don't really know HOW Link ended up on Koholint island. Sure, he was on a ship and capsized but... it's a dream world? How did he get into the dream of the windfish? Depending on the NPCs we will see named in Echoes, I genuinely think that these rifts that open up and swallow people sends them to alternative dimensions, like the dream of the windfish and that Echoes and Link's awakening are parrallel games to one another. So if we were to see a girl named Marin in Echoes get swallowed, I feel like that could pretty much confirm it.

Link could be waking up after the wind fish stuff and realize that gannon has zelda pinned up in the castle. Link attempts to save her via defeating gannon. Whilst that attempt gannons dark power and access to the triforce, he wishes hyrule to become a void; so therefore not only does zelda have the task of saving link but hyrule itself. ❤

Either that or this game takes place later in the timeline given the Hyrule in Echoes of Wisdom looking nothing like the one from A Link to the Past (which involves the same Link from Link's Awakening).

It could also be that this game takes place in the adult or child timeline, during the same time as a link between worlds, which happens in the defeat timeline. In a link between worlds you travel on the wall as a piece of art to the other world back and forth, to reach certain places that only be done that way. That could maybe cause those rifts in this game, the place the rifts lead to could lead to that same world, which could also be in a different timeline.

EoW is most likely somewhere between LA and Albw because there is a sealing of Ganon between the Oracle games and Albw which don´t have a game at the moment and Ganon wasn´t sealed in the Sacred realm in Albw.

According to the paintings referencing the events of A Link to the Past inside Hyrule Castle it's highly implied that Ganon's defeat inside the Sacred Realm/Dark World lead to his sealed state with Twinrova temporarily reviving him before he was sealed yet again until the events of A Link between Worlds.

@@Ahouro Yes those games show Ganon been seemingly killed by Link following his defeat in both games only for A Link between Worlds to outright _retcon_ his fate by revealing him to have been sealed instead in order to justify the game's plot involving Ganon again without having to make the extra work of introducing a brand new incarnation of Ganondorf like they did in Four Swords Adventures. A Link between Worlds is just another of the many instances where Nintendo is outright retconning prestablished Lore in order to justify a brand new game devoid of much narrative focus. Basically put: they retconned his death to be a seal instead.

I have no real idea and it probably does not matter BUT... Since BotW and TotK more or less exist... what, 10 000 years beyond ANY timeline in Historia, any variation of what happened in different timelines could indeed exist and happen in either/or other timeline. With the curse of Demise? making sure that the hero(Link)/Zelda/Ganondorf(Ganon) being reborn or revived until eternity, this makes it easy for the devs to make new Zelda games without needing to become Hyrule Historian lorists. The point beng, could this not happen at ANY point within the 10 000 years from the current end of ANY timeline upt to BotW? 😉I am not saying it IS, but it does not necessarily need to fit between any current games in the series. Thoughts? 🤔

The way ganon is depicted in EoW gives off the shadow nightmares depiction… The trident that ganon uses has 2 pointy tips and the way the player has to deadman volley the orbs back and forth towards him kinda makes this game set before Link’s Awakening. Also, the death mountain area that was in A Link to the Past has been replaced with a snow hillside - with the giant volcano located in the Northwest rather than the Southeast… That would mean that ALttP/ALBW death mountain has been dormant for a long time or this before the Tower of Hera was built and the snow melted over time. Finally, this game may be set in the era of the hero of time, possibly a few generations before or after OoT with the ReDead, Walltula, and Lizalfos resembling their appearance in Ocarina of Time. That would mean that this game is set between the events of not just Ocarina of Time, but also Link’s Awakening (as not just the art style is similar to that game’s remake, but it also states that Link set sale for a different country to train up to become stronger as the hero), but also Majora’s Mask… This theory maybe a long shot with a long list of info, but that’s how I think of it… hope this helps on your theory

@@WindMageMaster How would you explain the geographical inconsistency surrounding Death Mountain and Mount Hebra existing side by side in this iteration of Hyrule after A Link to the Past (where there's no Death Mountain on the upper left side of the map) but _before_ A Link between Worlds? (where there's also no Death Mountain on the upper left side of the map). Many fans have pointed out the 1:1 mirror reflection between Echoes of Wisdom's Hyrule and Four Swords Adventures's making many theorize this new game takes place after FSA in the _Child Timeline_ so i can't see from where are some reaching the conclusion that the game takes place in between Link's Awakening and A Link between Worlds given the lack of any explicit evidence pointing at such conclusion.

I also get ALBW feels from it. Not just from the art style, but the “gaps between dimensions” (to borrow a phrase from OoT Ganondorf) or whatever the purple rifts are, remind me a lot of when Link would walk between the cracks in the aforementioned. Can’t wait to find out!

I don't work at Nintendo but here's my opinion: the answer is that Zelda herself will get all the 2D games, and Link will get the 3D games in the future (including an Ocarina of Time remake), but that's not the most important point. The most important point is that none of this BS matters one bit. GAMEPLAY is what matters, not story. Nintendo doesn't plan these repetitive stories 40 years in advance, so can we just stop talking about it? It doesn't matter.
