I always think people get the Ballack and Lampard comparisons mixed around because of nationality. From what I've seen, Havertz is a lot more similar to Lampard in terms of pure goal-scoring ability than Mount and I feel Mount just has that more energetic and work effort that Ballack had (at least similar to the dynamic Lampard and Ballack had at their time together at Chelsea). Mount is great, but he doesn't seem to have that pure scoring instinct that both Lampard and Havertz has. I think that also means that Mount is a lot better as a box to box midfielder and at leading the press, he will still get goals, just not at the same rate as Lampard/Havertz. I think if we look at it that way, it's a lot easier to see how Havertz will influence our play and how he will start to shine more when we find ourselves in situations where we need a goal. I also think Lampard has realised this as Mount has stopped starting on the wing and has also started to be played further back on the pitch and not progressing past the wingers/strikers as much as he used to be.

Tough to say because at Leverkusen he spent his time split 50/50 between central attacking midfielder and right forward in his last two seasons, depending on which of their many formations were used. He's not a typical 8 or a typical 10 so I feel he's best described as a roamer who should be given free rein. I'd describe him as an eight and a half LoL He's not particularly physical or great at defending so the 4231 protects him better. If Ziyech isn't able to play for whatever reason then he'd suit playing as a right forward in a 3421 as he often did in the Bundesliga, with Abraham central to offer a target and Werner left playing the other half space while the left most player overlaps, and the same for Havertz with James on the right. He could also play in a 442/4222 as the right forward and drop in, as he would cut on to his preferred left foot when higher up the pitch or otherwise link with midfielders by dropping and give defences something to think about while Werner plays the more typical striker role in the partnership on the left. It was probably always going to be Havertz finding it toughest to adapt. Not only is he the youngest of those signings (Mbuyamba aside) and he has the most price tag pressure, but the play revolved around him at Leverkusen. It may take some time for Chelsea to figure out how to best enable his strengths as you mentioned at 4:03. It'll probably take a bit of time for the lads to sync their movements and fluidity to unlock this potential. With Ziyech's passing and then the directness and "terror factor" of Werner and Pulisic (and Hudson-Odoi), Havertz should get plenty of opportunities to do his drifting and exploiting before finishing moves.

Havertz cost 72m he has to be played upfront and start scoring goals and assists upfront. Hope we get Dominik Szoboszlai in January. In spite of the wisdom of fans with zero football knowledge, it seems that Arteta and Edu are on to something. As there couldnt POSSIBLY be any Arsenal bias in this 2 yr old Chelsea related video, its amazing how many of the things u say make him sound the PERFECT fit for Arsenal. He can play in a multitude of positions that we lacked depth last season as our players tired (while Citys rested players KDB and Grealish flourished).. it is his play between the lines that I think Arteta will se as something he can use more effectively than Chelsea did and exploit. You guys then go on to talk about the perfect player he needs to be paired with and you mention RICE, who Arsenal are also on the verge of signing. I had been thinking the price Arsenal are supposedly paying (50m plus 15m addons) is a bit much given how it hasnt gone great for Haverts so far in England, but I already had the idea he will be a good signing for Arsenl in spite of the price. Im now more convinced that it will be a good signing and maybe the cost is more fair!

I always hate coaches that put players that are clearly number 10s like coutinho on the wing. Yes havertz would probably be a good right winger, due to him being soo fast (yes guys he is fast, even tho he has less than 90 pace in fifa) But him on the wing would just be wasted potential, you want him to be that generational Talent that he could be, play him as a 10

When you were talking about how many of their attacking players tend to drift towards the left, you could include Chilwell too, who’s been getting very forward on the left side. If you’re going to have chilwell pushing up, providing width on the left hand side, along with Havertz drifting a little left centrally and Werner drifting left in the final third, I’d honestly just not play with a Left Winger. This means you could play with Abraham along with Werner at striker, so Abraham can play a much more central, target-man like role with Werner drifting left to make runs. Chilwell can provide quality crosses which provides the width left by the lack of Left Winger and Havertz will provide a problem for defenders centrally and on the left, while the same would happen with Werner further forward, which is all they need on the left. It’s a weird idea, but it would stop any congestion of space and could allow the likes of Havertz and Werner to do what they do best.

His best position is an advanced 8 since Lampard is likely to stick with 4-3-3.

Sir Alex always allowed the debut season for a foreign player to settle in the Premier League. Considering their depth, they don't need to put too much pressure on him this season.

Very intelligent analysis overall, but I was disappointed with the early section where you talked about why he hasn't been performing well yet. You guys put it on that he was moved around more at leverkusen and it was a different system, but Chelsea's put him in a comfortable situation with attacking threats all around him to play in behind. He just hasn't performed

Exactly what I was thinking, Ziyech playing alongside Kai will be a problem in terms of positioning during attacking phases. Playing Kai from the left midfield also limits his magic coz he's a left footer. I hope a balance is found for this problem.

I think the 4-3-3 is the way forward for Chelsea and I think Havertz can play in midfield alongside Kante and Mount. I think he can be like Debruyne. if he is constantly shifting with Ziyech is gonna be much harder to defend against!

Keep Havertz in LAM and when Ziyech drops in the LAM position then Havertz runs in behind. Tammy drops deep, with Werner and Havertz making the angled run in behind. You can see that Mount in the RCM is not running in to the box as often as he is being used to switch, speed up and slow down play. He also allows Chillwell to attack anything coming in to the opponents box. Even when Kova was playing he had a lot more freedom to make continuous runs beyond the opponents defence.
@StrictlyStoicism4 жыл бұрын
If we play 4-2-3-1, Havertz needs to fit in behind Werner as a 10. We can also deploy him as 1 of the 2 8’s in a 4-3-3 with Kante in the middle and Mount on the right and Kai and the left. Similar to how Man City had Fernandinho CDM, KDB right and Silva left
@powerllesss26724 жыл бұрын
It’s quite simple. Play him in a 4-3-3 and as a right number 8 with unlimited freedom and give Mount instructions to be slightly more defensive.

Lampard purchased him to balance the team as a left footer he can play the no 8 role on the right. We often talk about formations but teams and players that have a fluidity to move between different formations is where it's at. Havertz in the 8 role moves to a 10 when the other 8 moves into a defensive position. Same ad the DM moves into a CB to make a three when the fullbacks bom forward. Lampard likes fluidity all midfielders can play in the 8 position except Jorgi but not all can play the DM role as well as Kante.

Lampard has tried his composition successfully that abraham s the key, then wener & ziyech can possibly be a wing or striker on left or right as well, the remaining position s mount or harvetz that compete w each other only

I don't know if you guys know this but Cech & Lampard took secret trips during lockdown to Germany to meet the representatives of Werner and Havertz. Lampard confirmed it during a press conference before the season started. So Yes both Lampard & Cech have pulling power on elite players. Cech also speaks 8 languages fluently which helps.

Personally I don't know if I would sign him. He's definitely really talented, but the price was definitely insane. I'd like to see Abraham start as the main striker. And one the sides have Werner and Ziyech. And then I'd also give time to Pulisic who was really promising especially at the end of last season. I'm afraid he's gonna be left out this season. Hudson Odoi is also really talented and shold play more. I feel like Chelsea didn't need Havertz

I'm curious why Lampard has not used Havertz & Ziyech the way Havertz & Wirtz were this past season...or Havertz & Brandt before then? Wirtz; though much younger & less experienced than the Moroccan maestro; is also a playmaking-winger who likes to drift into those half-spaces between the lines when starting out wide (as did Brandt), and adding Wirtz behind him while he was moved further forward helped unlock a new level from Kai. Lampard could stick Werner and/or Pulisic on the wing to run into the spaces that Kai's movement opens up; with Mount drifting out from the midfield to take up positions on the left & open space in that central zone for Kai & Ziyech to drift into -- like Amiri often would for Vulturekusen -- while James pushed up aggressively on the right to provide width on that side; if Ziyech didn't start alongside Mount in the space behind Havertz, but on the right.

To all the haters, Havertz has 8 goal contributions (counting the penalty he won) in 10 games. And he's not even peaked yet! Plus he's dynamic, can play as a false 9, RW, a no. 8 and no. 10!

Genuine question - what's wrong with playing a 4-4-2 diamond (4-1-2-1-2) with Werner left striker, Tammy, Ziyech at the CAM, Havertz/Mount on one side, Kovacic on the other & Kante holding? Same thing with Man Utd with an overload of central midfielders. Is there anything tactically wrong with playing without "wingers", with a chilwell & james playing like trent & robbo at Liverpool?

I would slightly disagree with their points. One is that "he doesn't have a specific role". The way Chelsea have been playing is the massive interchange of players to breakdown teams. You'll see Abraham on the RW, Pulisic up to, or Havertz there and Werner far LW. I don't see Havertz in this Chelsea team having one role
@absolutespoon20744 жыл бұрын
It’s more the fact you can’t really develop a generational talent in a general sense. You need to kind of taper their ability to a certain role. There were only a handful of players that could do almost everything. Being interchangeable with all the other attackers doesn’t mean he can’t have a specific role. Pulisic (dribbler) Werner (scorer) Ziyech (creator) Tammy (scorer) Havertz (?)
Can someone explain why Mount gets so much playing time? In a midfield 3, Kovacic, Kante and Jorginho add more. In attack, Werner, Ziyech, Havertz, Tammy add much much more. Heck, Mount isn't too much of a defensive assest! WHY THEN?
@colin27294 жыл бұрын
If you watch the games he doesn’t play(mount) the energy is completely gone. I was the same at the beginning of the season but once he came back into the team everything clicked. I think he has to be playing in games against teams who drop back. If you watch the games with kovacic, Jorginho and kante then you’ll see the missing all round energy mount brings to a team
@parthpiyushprasad7094 жыл бұрын
@@colin2729 To be fair to Mount, his work rates are quite high. But he as a player, again imo, is still not too developed to be a regular starter for a top 6 club. Plus, using Kante in a more advanced role with the ability to rome around would easily bring out the energy!

I think Havertz can play as an 8 on the right, even if Ziyech is playing. They interchanged position a lot against Burnley. Ziyech would drop deeper in the right half space looking for space for the killer pass, Havertz pushed forward between the CB and LB, and Reece held the width. That's very hard to defend given their talent
@trupiil4 жыл бұрын
play him as a false nine or second striker as well, because his finishing is top class already.

Havertz would be more suited playing across the front 3, but preferably as a right-wing forward, he should drift more closer to the box to get involved in assists and position himself to score goals with his feet or head... simples, problem solved! Ziyech should play more in midfield as an attacking 8 to make his passes from midfield.
@onamiofficial4 жыл бұрын
For me...I think Chelsea should train and upgrade Havertz physical.....he got great height now but not for his physic...and the best position for him in Chelsea is behind striker as number 10 or Chelsea can train him more to become CM👍🏻
