🇨🇳 Where Does My Wife Come From? (Countryside Life in China - GuangXi Province)

Meeting Li (in 2015) was one of the greatest gifts of my life, and pretty much since our first month together I have been excited to someday visit her hometown. NOW that we finally have a chance in 2023, and we also now have the means to capture all of these memories on camera, it is with some of that same huge excitement that I can now share this day with my friends and family.
As you can imagine, the things we see and learn about, the things we eat and enjoy, and the family memories we make could fill several videos - I only have this one and so I hope that it can convey my immense appreciation at the chance to finally visit XiaLi.

I love the food scene in China, there are soooo many dishes and the amount of food that is available is crazy. I still haven't learned to pace myself at family gatherings because I'm so used to just eating all at once. One of the things that is going to take a while to get used to is the non-refrigerating of food after its cooked. My wife is from Hangzhou and her parents would cook so much food and they would place a large plastic bowl over all the food. We would then eat the leftovers the next day. It takes a while to get used to eating food like that, but I am excited to move to Hangzhou and experience the Chinese lifestyle again.

Hey Joel. This video struck a chord with me. My father passed away 17 years ago and my brother bought his house, the house that I grew up in. For a long time, the house stayed empty until my brother and his wife decided to renovate it. It was completely stripped back to the wood frame and it was at this point I visited and had a look. Like I said, it was just a wood frame at that point, yet each "room" that I walked into elicited a different, but very clear memory and watching Li walk around her Grandmother's house reminded me so much of that experience. It was quite emotional for me too.

I am Thai, my grand parent came from Cheghai district near Shantou. I first visited my uncle and councils in 2019. It was dream come true, fortunately the old village was still there, make me imagine how life was in the past history. We were in China in October for a month and had the best time of our life be it food and general sights as well as the system. I am thoroughly impressed, and we are coming back next year for a tour to enjoy the food in Chengdu and technology in Shenzen and Guangzhou.

Thank you for sharing this lovely family video with us, much appreciated. This is a real and tangible example of the 700-800 millions Chinese who moved out of absolute poverty in one generation . It also showed China as a developing and not a developed country. Not all have entered the middle class yet, many are still at the poverty level, or lower middle class. Especially at the rural villages and the northwest. Life will be better for many more in another 20 years if China is not forced into a war or be invaded again. Very fortunate your wife can go home to visit her family. This video reminds me of my ancestors that leave their home behind in India between 1845 and 1917 and travelled on a ship to work in Trinidad🇹🇹 expecting a better life but worked in slavery conditions. Today in 2023 life is much better in Trinidad many Indian families are very successful in getting school education and starting business or having a good job but you know some of the indian people in Trinidad including myself are living in unfortunate circumstances and everyday life is a real struggle and many times I wished to go back India to live but the sad thing is that I do not know where my family lives in India and maybe someday if I get information about where my family lives in India by searching through public records I am not sure I will be accepted by my family that lives in India because it has been more than 100 years of no communication with my family in India. India has a caste system where the rich people and poor people live separated apart. But life in Trinidad is better the rich people and the poor people live together in the same communities eating food at the same restaurant, drink beers and coffee at the same bars, partying together, working together for those that have jobs. In Trinidad if we have problem with no pipe water in the village or no electricity or security problem we can pick up our telephone and call our government minister and the government minister will answer the telephone call, but I heard it is not like that in India life is different. Presently for me I am unemployed and every company and contractor I asked for work is not hiring me, the problem is the prime minister (black man) and his government closed the Petrotrin Refinery in the year 2018 and the Government also caused Arcelor Mittal steel mill to close business in Trinidad and many thousands of citizens born in Trinidad including myself have been unemployed since then. I do not receive any type unemployment benefits from the government because the Prime Minister is an heartless and evil dictator that hate poor people. Awesome video, I love ripe mango 🙏

My wife is from guangxi too. Nanning to be exact, family from Ping Lan and Wu Tang. I miss going there. 14 years married and love her more now than I ever did. Days spent with her family in their sugar cane fields. The villages look just the same.

The love and hospitality in this video. Very nice of our wife to encourage you to bring the camera. I enjoyed watching the country side dishes and views. Hmm, so meaningful to eat the rice grain one plants yourself. Chinese children always recite Li Shen's poem about how one has to finish all the rice grains in their bowl because of the farmer''s hard work when planting rice. It is a constant reminder of the virtue of being appreciative of, thankful for one's food and not to waste food.
