Ahh the old crappy days when all of the REALLY good stuff never made it outside Japan. Lots of low-poly and vibrant primary colors in this one. A game that could have easily been a classic for me if I had had the opportunity to play it. All hail the mad lads that localize these games for the fun of it. I don't understand it, but I appreciate it!

Amen to that - I was 7 in 1995 and if this dropped on my Saturn back then it would have been an instant favourite. But here we are near 30 years later and I get to check it out anyway 😊

Absolutely immense and yes, as a 90's American us kids just assumed "The Saturn sucked" because of it's lack of prevalence anywhere. I had no idea at the time that our reception was due to COLOSSAL marketing failure by SEGA America. Unfortunately it would be QUITE an investment to start toying with a physical console, and I have no CRT's anymore. It's amazing that community interest has spurred a network of people doing near perfect localizations for THOUSANDS of game worlds we never got to delve into! Another reason preservation is so important! Subbed to you and Shiro, this is too far up my alley to ignore.

It blows my freaking mind that Sega doesn't just grab neat games like this that they still own the IPs for, and just port them to Windows and chuck them on Steam for $5. I'd pay money to play this on my Steam Deck if it meant I didn't have to configure my emulator.

Oh I absolutely agree! I think Hudson Soft actually developed this one but even so, surely either them or Sega still hold rights to publish too

It would be awesome if they modded in support for the PlayStation mouse.

Hahaha I've no idea how that would work but no doubt some intrepid modder could do it

@@DreamcastEnjoyer Maybe adding support for those other controllers is easier, but I know people have been modding mouse aim into quite a few console games lately.

Seems pretty fun! Too bad there's no port over to modern consoles as far as I know.

I'm afraid it's Saturn only but I think it would do really well if it ever wound up on Steam or something!

Unfortunately Macross M5 was released on the Dreamcast a couple years later. Not a good legacy wannabe title from hopefully someone else. The dev that made Bulk Slash was on a roll, they made Hagane before this one. Konami needs to get Hagane and this re-released already.

The name credited is Kunihiko Natsume, but I can't find much helpful info online to see much of their other work. The characters and the mechs both look incredible though, so I'd love to know

If nintendo announced the release in a direct as a shadow drop it would be the highlight of the announcements.

Mixture. The mech sprite is 2D but all the environments and enemies are 3D polygons. It's a very unique look for sure!

hey there, been meaning to try this game on a emulator (as i assume that's how you played it due to how clean your footage looks) but i can't seem to get any of the emulators to work. If you'd be able to help it'd be awesome since I'll finally be able to play this game. Thanks!

Hi, I hope I can help! I captured this footage using the Beetle Saturn core on Retroarch. The other thing is that I'm using Blargg Bad Composite filter combined with the Easy Mode CRT shader. I find that this way the game blends together nicely (like on an old CRT) but still looks pretty clean 😎 Hope this helps!

Haha it is rough but I genuinely don't mind when the fan patches are this damn good! I know this team have done a similar patch for Stellar Assault on the Saturn too so gotta check that one out at some point

i played it and I just really think the waifu screaming in your ear the whole time is the biggest turn off, its really grating and annoying to me. I guess i know why they didnt localize it.

I haven't played the original Japanese version so can't comment on the VA work there, but I will say didn't find it grating in this fan patch - in fact I vibed pretty hard with it 😊
