i remember being a middle schooler and beating this game on my birthday at the arcade with a friend. we got to the very end and the game forces you to fight each other over the girl. My friend and I kept putting quarters in to make sure the other didn't "win". who knows how many extra quarters the game got from that ending fight alone, what a smart business decision lol
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries11 ай бұрын

Did you know they were not the first to utilize this idea. If you beat Double Dragon in both the arcade and on the Sega Master System port in 2 player mode it does the same thing. You both have to fight for the girls affection. Although I can't remember if you have the ability to continue or not when one player loses. I don't think you can on the Master System at least.

It's sad that Bruce Willis is slowly losing his mental faculties, at such a (relatively) young age. At least he's got the money he needs for proper treatment and make his situation the least bad possible for himself and his family. Anyway, as someone knowing of people who are in a similar situation, it saddened me when I first saw it on the news a few weeks ago.

I put SO many quarters into this game at my local arcade. I eventually beat it with the help of a friend. All the QuickTime events were a neat idea and the final boss using desks and stuff to smash you was a fun last battle. The sequel game in the boat wasn’t as memorable.

From what I've heard, SEGA was sitting in a warehouse surplus of unutilized STV boards in Japan. Apparently they STV platform was not the success they had hoped among arcade operators, especially compared to the SEGA Model 2 at the time. So they approached 20th Century Fox for a license to repurpose Dynamite Deka for a stateside release. Their risk paid off and Die Hard Arcade became the most successful STV title ever made. Its sequel Dekka 2 (Dynamite Cop) is one of my favorite beatemups ever, tho Die Hard Arcade laid the foundation which Dekka 2 perfected. Nice video.

That thing with throwing the gun after it runs out of ammo had a funny moment on TV. On the 50's Superman TV show, there was an episode where a thug shoots at Superman. I still remember the first time I played this I was 12 or 13 years old at my local AMC movie theater in 1996. I remember walking by and wondering what the heck it was. Nobody was at the machine so I stood next to it watching the attract mode with the helicopter sound and when I saw the SEGA logo I knew it was going to be good. I exchanged some of my snack money into quarters and played maybe for 15 minutes but I had a blast the entire time and I loved how the controls felt exactly like Virtua Fighter as it felt familiar and comfortable for me. Not long after that the game came out for Saturn but since I didn't own the system it would be years until I could play it again. I thought it was the only game in the series and I had a Dreamcast I didn't know Dynamite Cop was it's sequel because of the name difference. I wish Sega would bring it back as not a lot of people know about the games. 😄

I remember this hitting my local arcade when I was in high school. We couldn’t get enough of it … but we also didn’t think there was any connection to the Die Hard movies. I didn’t catch onto the building cues, and between the character having no Bruce Willis likeness and no movie dialogue, it just didn’t set in. But no complaints - this game kicked butt. Most arcades near me were going under by then, so this one kind of marked the end of an era for me.
@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries11 ай бұрын

a surprisingly deep and fun game. on the surface I can see how it would get bad reviews... the graphics are blocky and the textures basic (like an early playstation... or saturn game for that matter), it departs from the movie source material quite a bit, and it has the goofy deep scan game mode to build up enough credits to beat the game easily even if you have no skills whatsoever. Other than the Saturn version have a lot of loading interruptions, it's much better when you realize that it's the virtual fighter engine with an equivalent variety of moves and secrets built into the action, and when you realize the movement is meant to mimic the "pseudo-3d" alignment of games like Double Dragon and Final Fight (rather than a true 3d environment) it's surprisingly easy to play and enjoy especially with a friend. I love it and it's even more charming than the quasi-sequel on the Dreamcast, as wild as "Dynamite Cop" can be.

A couple tips. I'd you jump with a gun, you can shoot downed enemies. When fighting the firefighters, hold down while shooting. You will crouch and they cannot duck your fire.

Nice I didn't know that, thanks

Patmaaaaan! (In my Sega voice) dude i was so bad at this game that i never knew it had all these awesome attacks. The Die Hard movie series are my favorites especially the 3rd one. It sucks what Bruce Willis is going through in real life.

You know, I think the third one is my favorite as well although the first one is a very close second.

This was my favorite game I owned on Sega Saturn. I loved the extra live submarine mini game.

I love this game so much, only beaten it once or twice, but FREAKING LOVED IT. Played it almost anywhere I saw it, and started off really bad at it bc I was mad young. Something about this one made it really special. It was difficult, you had to get decent at the game or it would smack you around for sure. I had no idea about the arrest mechanic tho, that's completely new to me haha. the QTE fails sometimes just lead to additional fights midway between the next destination, not sure if that made it into your script, but I'm sure you know it's not always just extra damage on the fails. I used to be really bad at that part.

Yes, I mentioned the fails in the video just didn't show footage of it. This game is great, one of my favorites from the 90s

When I was young I thought this game was the peak of video games. I DREAMED of how cool it would be if I could play this at home on a console, but I didn't think it would EVER be technologically feasible.

Is that you on the right in the red shirt.....ahh the good old days.....nice video....honestly is heavy barrel on the list? For nearly a year I've been praying patman comes to the rescue....I deliberately wait to see what game you review then emulate it till your next video ...my new routine

Back in the day my friend always thought it was extremely amusing at the moment you completed your superweapon when the game froze for a couple seconds so it could proudly announce: "HEAVYYYYYYYY.....BARREL!!!" 😅
