I've got the green version, it is growing nicely in low light no tech, so it must be hardy however there was a period where it went through so much melting even on new leaves that I thought it would surely die, but then somehow it started growing and is doing well now. No idea why, it can be very temperamental.

I planted one in a 55 about 18 months ago, last Saturday I was moving all my tanks to a single room, I pulled all the plants up so I could remove the dirt substrate....my one tiger lotus had spread and is now 9 tiger lotuses .... oh and HAPPY WEDNESDAY !
I have them! they are beautiful. do not throw them out of the tank when the leaves die back, it will regrow in a few months, just leave them in there. one of my fish knocked a long stem off, and it floated around the top of the tank, it looked fine so I just let it stay, and it started a new bulb!!!!! crazy right.😊😅

My red Tiger Lotus got huge, it took over about 1/3 of a 90g tank. Esp. in the summer, it grows like crazy! It took a lot of trimming to keep it in control. It is by far my favorite red aquarium plant. It also pupped like crazy, so I was able to sell many starts at our club auctions.

I have one in my 6 gallon bookshelf, it's been a trooper for the last year and a half, even when i accidentally dug it up while doing some clean up a couple months ago. Love the pop of color against the wood and green plants in that tank.

I got mine with my very first plant order! It has given me the least worries as I have been getting back into the fish hobby. Like you I am also a gardener, and couldn't pass up the leaf size and color. I have found that after a bit I need to feed it with two or three root tabs to help keep the ;eaves looking good. They get a bit translucent and get pin holes. Other than that, let it be. Our Betta likes to sleep on the leaves. 😍

It is so lush and if it can grow in my tanks I think anyone would stand a chance with it. I must admit I've had a bulb or two in the past that fizzled out though. But I tried it in two of my tanks recently and both did take off. One isn't doing as good as the other but the one where it isn't doing so well is a problem tank anyway..and a fairly new tank. Wondering what inspires it to grow tall. Maybe it's just its natural way.

Awe don't kick yourself JoAnna. The best thing about our hobby is that we live and learn. No matter the size of our mistakes, as long as we learn from it then it's an experience that hasn't been wasted. You know this you silly goose. LOL 😂. I love your videos and every time I see a notification from The Small Scape I get so excited. And today I learned that a Red Tiger Lotus CAN go into a 20 gallon long tank. And all this time I wouldn't buy one because someone said that they were huge plants. SILLY ME. Thanks JoAnna. I hope you have a blessed week. 🙏

I have a different plant that I can't find the name of now - other than ground lily. It's very similar, but the top of the leaves are green with spots and the underside is purple. It grows a little slower too. So I have both the red tiger lotus and the ground lily in different tanks.

This is my favorite aquarium plant right now. I have one in my 60 - the leaves are enormous at the base and it's currently got about 10 at the surface. I love the way the stems arch up, it looks very art nouveau to me! My mystery snails parasnail onto the leaves quite a bit and then jump down through the levels, it's very funny to watch.

@rhondafitzpatrick16469 ай бұрын
it's easy peasy... I'm only a year in the hobby and they just grow! I couldn't keep the bulb half way in the soil, it just kept popping up, so I let it stay sitting on top of the soil and it did fine, roots went in. it looked like it was floating by magic...lol.

A head’s-up: once my goldfish and then ramshorn snail discovered it was edible, they devoured it! Fortunately I have multiple-tanks so it went through a few regrowth-cycles. It did spawn offshoots a few times though now.

I had one previously that had started doing pretty well, and then I made a horrible mistake and added a crayfish to that tank. There was nothing left almost before I realized there was a problem. That thing had an appetite belonging to a creature seventeen times its size...

I can stand behind that if you keep trimming the taller bits it will learn that it's not reaching the top and stay smaller/bushier. I will also add if it's growing great amd it drops the bulb part it can/will continue to grow just fine. I've heard if the bulb drops from the actual plant it sometimes will sprout another plant.
