I had a similar experience to you. I graduated from university with a maths degree in 2019, then got a part time job tutoring. I didn't know what I wanted to do after graduating either. Anyway, I know that being an unemployed graduate sucks, because even when you're constantly applying for jobs and learning new skills. You often have nothing to show for it. In my case I had to (after graduating) teach myself how to code, use excel etc. before any of my applications were taken seriously. Well done for finding a graduate job! Thank you for being so open and honest about your struggles post-uni.

Omg I got really excited when I saw your upload :). I've been watching your videos from a long time. I remember watching you in high school and you were at uni, at that time I already had an idea of what I wanted to do and it was maths but I was so afraid of not being 'smart enough' and also of the whole math undergraduate experience which to an outsider can look so dark and mysterious and selective of 'the choosen ones' idk that was my perspective. I really like your videos and I'm so thankful for them and back then they helped me affirm my decision of doing a maths degree, your channel was like a clear space where I could see and listed from your experience how a math degree was from the perspective of a student, now I'm in my second year of the degree thank you so much. I'm happy to see you are starting a job now, congratulations, Beth!! I hope that goes really well, as well as your mental health, I hope you keep on staying safe and well 💗. But I'm not really looking for a job atm as I need a break after graduating last year. My brain still feels fried! Always love your videos

i'm a year 10 student, and next year is going to be the last year for me to think about uni so i have been.. Stressing to put it lightly. ik i want to do something maths related, that much i'm sure about, but i don't know What exactly.. at first i was like oh! engineering! maths + job stability, what else could u want ? and then i realized how much physics u have to do, and while i'm good at it, im not particularly passionate about it :( then the obvious afterthought was oh! maths degree! but i'm really worried about the job finding afterwards.. like u said, stability is a very big factor for me, always has always will be. so ig this is just a really long way of asking: how is ur accounting job ? what even Is accounting ? what do u do in general and on a day to day basis ? i'd be really glad if u could help me out ☹️

hi!! i wouldn’t worry too much, you have sooo much time and you definitely don’t have to have a life plan figured out. I never really had a career in mind, I just studied what I enjoyed & was good at, and eventually found myself in this accounting job (which I love!!). people from all different backgrounds do accounting, you don’t have to study a particular subject at uni, or even do a degree if you don’t want to I’m an auditor, so that means I look at companies’ accounts and check that they give a true view of their financial situation. It’s a bit like a finance detective! Day to day it involves a lot of spreadsheets (but not complicated ones) and talking to clients which gives it a good balance of numbers/interpersonal skills 😌 I’ll talk more about it in future videos or feel free to dm me if you want more info. But in general, I’d say just focus on the subjects you love and are good at, you don’t want to put 3+ years into something you hate. Then whatever subject you end up studying is bound to have job opportunities in something you love+are interested in as well Good luck with it all 💗

Trainee accountant sounds good, I am going to be finishing my mathematics degree soon, does it seem like a good career path? Also, I relate to not wanting to do something then changing my mind. At first, I hated the idea of working in finance or accounting, now I'm just looking for any good career opportunities lol.

From my research I'd say so. That's partly why I chose it. I like that there is a formal training element so that at the end of these three years I will have a qualification to prove my skills. I'll let you know how I find it as I go along!! There are so many career opportunities with a maths degree, the hardest part is definitely deciding what paths to pursue
