As always I appreciate your honesty. It’s kind of a bizarre thing in the world of body positivity that when you are not feeling your most confident you also feel shame for not feeling confident. Your transparency is super helpful to me, to be realistic about body image.

I'm not gonna lie I was watching this while working out and you got me thinking about body image and realized, I tend to feel a lot happier with my body if I stick with working out. Not just because I tend to lose some weight (that's more just a bonus and a health benefit having diabetes.) But overall I feel so satisfied with my body and it performance after a workout, I'm proud of how strong my legs are and of the muscle I've gained. I need to work on my arms more, but even so I'm happy with what I've accomplished in 1 year of working out. If I hadnt been watching you, and I started working out I think my mindset wouldve been a lot unhealthier about it.

I think that working out also sends good signals to the brain, I am blind and have bad balance, but every time I don't work out for a while due to injuries I feel worse, working out improves everyones balance and sends awareness signals to the brain of where a certain body part is in space. And probably more that is communicated, I think there are indeed allot more factors to working out then just the weightloss and stuff, like a clearer mind, doing something and being active ect. But progress also shows indeed allot, especially if the last time or a while back you were less strong, fast or endured not as long

i’d love to hear you talk more about body image! in 2023, i fell very ill and lost a ton of weight due to the fact that i couldn’t eat solid foods. everyone in my life commented on it, like it was something to be proud of. meanwhile, i was so sick i couldn’t even fully attend my brother’s college graduation or my own Masters graduation. flash forward to now, like i kept repeatedly saying back then, i gained the weight back last year once i was able to eat food again. and it’s really really hard to jump weights so quickly and with everyone noticing. i’m in a much healthier mindset and place now, but it’s still hard and it’s something i work toward every day. and it’s just nice to hear other people sharing their experiences so it feels less lonely in the body neutrality circle.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant and body image during and after pregnancy was a big factor in my decision making to even have kids in the first place. I've also given so much thought to how my husband and i will talk about food, exercise, and our bodies to and in front of our daughter. I'm a few years older than you and you've been a huge inspiration for how I want to parent.

I had my second baby in May and also joined you on the couch to 5k journey! I’ve had to restart it a few times as I’ve juggled life but I relate so deeply to the second postpartum experience being so challenging for my body image. Thank you for being vulnerable. As a fellow mom of two, I love it when you provide some honest glimpses into the common struggles that I think many women in a similar stage in life share. I hope by sharing you receive the same comfort that you provided many of us by knowing that you aren't alone! I would personally love to see more of the fashion content you suggested (when you are ready). Going through the process of navigating how to accept changes in your size (decreases) healthily, without it causing an unhealthy mindset or triggering old behaviors.

Im so glad you talked about body image after pregnancy, I had my baby girl in July and am having trouble accepting how my body changed. Working out has helped so Ill keep showing up and I totally relate to wanting to be strong and healthy for my daughter ❤

I appreciate you opening up - I had my third baby in October 2022 and the hurt my sciatica and couldn’t walk well, let alone work out for 6 months and had the realization I didn’t like to see myself in the mirror or in pictures and so I finally made the decision to start ozempic yesterday and get back into walking - I used to run half marathons and marathons and you have inspired me to get back into it, while I can’t run currently I can speed walk. I appreciate your openness and candidness it’s something we don’t talk about enough. Running is def empowering! I remember feeling that way when I decided to run a marathon in my 20s. 😊

It’s interesting that yet again, I’m in the sameish place as. I’m letting myself be happy at how strong I’m getting and being proud that I’m enjoying moving my body like I care about it. Lately, I have been in the mindset of “ If I wouldn’t say it about my best friend, I’m not going to say it to myself “. That has helped. Thank you for sharing. Also, was this video pre recorded?

Loving the vlogs!!! I have been curious about one thing! With having children so close together, have you found your relationship with your older brother changing or getting even closer? Also I love the running journey you are on and how it has positively affected not just your personal body and life, but also the ways it seems to have spread to something else you do with your mom and also your older brother. As a mom of two, I do understand that feeling when you struggle with your body image after giving birth to a second child. For me, it was much more difficult to return to at least a neutral attitude towards my body. Now I am in a better place with it, however still have days when I feel miserable. You are not alone. But we all are moving forward in our body journey. That's important, even if these are only tiny steps. And moving my body makes me feel better, more energized and connected to my body. I also feel like the struggles of slimmer women with their body image are somehow depreciated. I hear kind of things like "What nonsense, what you worry about, you are slim for your age and height". But the reality is that people of all sizes, heights, ages, marital statuses and so on may have insecurities about their bodies. So let's just be kind to ourselves and other people and respect other people's feelings.

As we go through life body image changes and you never know what will trigger bad feelings. The important thing is that you’ve grown enough to recognize it, and can use those skills to redirect your thoughts. Yeah, you may be stuck in the feelings but you know that they aren’t necessarily reality and you know there will be good days and bad days. ❤

Sierra, I see you. Your story with postpartum and running is the exact same as yours. I had my son 1 month after grace was born and my daughter last summer. I was at such a low with my body image but running gave me something to focus on what I can do instead of what I can lose. Goals that had nothing to do with what I looked like and not only gave me exercise but also made me want to fuel my body properly so I can hit my goals and not so I can fit into my old pants. This is such an important part of the body positivity movement -- body positivity is a journey and its not always linear and to not share this aspect and act like you love your body 24/7 would be disingenuous. I'm glad you shared this. I would love to hear your take on how we can advocate for body positivity without supporting unhealthy choices.... sometimes i struggle with that.... because i feel like if im too body positive, I'm also then disregarding accountability since PART of our body makeup is from choices we make.

Bow flex makes an adjustable kettle that gives from 8lbs to 40lbs I believe. It’s a bit more bulky than a regular kettlebell so there are a couple movements that make it a bit weird. But for the most part it’s pretty useful.

You’ve spoken so highly of running and I’m super interested in doing once it starts warming up where I live, but would love to hear what you love about running, and the specific of how it’s changed you. Not necessarily the changes in your size, but the changes in hunger, mood, energy levels, etc. Also, have you dealt with any injuries or anything that has made it difficult in your joints or muscles?

I felt this way about wanting to live my life and be present and not worry about my weight. I had VSG surgery and it was the hardest and best decision of my life. Now I am mindful but present

I also am leaning towards body neutrality vs positivity and have learned that it's ok! Eventually I'll get to being more positive but for now I'm just focusing on doing what makes me happy and staying away from negative thoughts but that's easier said than done sometimes.

And what do you do to support your body while running? Most of the runners who make videos don't have my body type, so their tips, their problems and their progress just don't reflect mine.

I think it's more of a, if you are willing to talk about it, please do. LOL!! I've been through a journey myself and now that my son is 5, I'm finally starting to embrace my new body. It certainly is hard. And I'm 43. It is hard getting caught up in ideals, even those we place on ourselves. I have found when I feel meh about my body, I tend to not focus so hard on the mirror. And days where I feel good, I embrace those days the most. Positivity certainly helps. Especially when we are looking in the mirror. "Today is a great hair day!" or "These jeans make my body look amazing." Truly works. Speak only positives about your body when littles are around, because they'll repeat and internalize. I mistakenly said to myself one day, (I was bloated and the outfit I had on didn't quite do it for me) "Yeah, this makes my belly feel big." And my son, being 2 at the time, "Mommy, your belly is big?" Uh... It's hard. But I learned my lesson right away. LOL! It gets better and easier. One day at a time. You're doing great!

I think as women we go through several times in life with body image. When we are young and developing and comparing ourselves to others, after we marry and have children and are shifting from familiar self to wife/mother image, and then as we age and that person in the mirror becomes somewhat unrecognizable. I think you are doing a great job mothering your children, running a business, and making time to focus on yourself. It is difficult, but just keep carving out that time. We need to include inner well-being in body image, and not just outer appearances. I find that when I am happy with the me inside, I am more accepting of the outer me.

I really, really appreciate you talking about this, and I know it’s so hard and vulnerable to do! I’ve been following you for a long time and have 4 kids now. My body image is in such a bad place right now, and I’m trying to figure out how to get back to feeling light in my body without reverting back to old ways of losing weight that were unhealthy and unsustainable. I’m also trying to get healthier and work on body image, and a huge part of that was repairing my relationship with food. Idk if that’s something you’re focusing on at all, but if it is and if you’re comfy, I’d love to hear you talk about how you’re feeling about food at this point in your journey, I think it could be helpful to a ton of people.

Almost 5m PP and I’m definitely at the stage of avoiding mirrors. Adding on that I don’t have time to get ready and barely have any clothes that fit, my body image is definitely at an all time low. I don’t like going out in public bc I’m worried someone will ask if I’m pregnant bc my belly still sticks out so far. Definitely good to hear about your experience too ❤

Since you live in SD! You should come to Zumba at 24 hour fitness balboa. I can send you a free pass! I love this class because it taught me that being active doesn’t have to be about weight loss or your body looking a certain way. I took up Zumba more seriously after becoming a sahm because my relationship with my body was horrible, but I also started to workout to push myself and a lot of the women in my Zumba class go literally just to have fun.

i feel like being a public figure, you should acknowledge that you may or may not lose weight as you’re becoming more active but you don’t want commentary about it. just to draw boundaries from people saying you look better or thinner or whatever
