Hats off to you for that sleeping setup. I’m a 6’4” military guy, did almost 4 yrs as a geographic bachelor. Sleeping in my RAM was NOT comfortable.

I took my passenger seat off and back seat.. and had a foldable mattress made at a upholstery shop so I can lay it flat on the passenger side towards the back seat. I’m 6”5 and I have plenty room that way. And When i don’t use it, I fold it in half and but it behind my seat. I hated sleeping side ways on the backseat so decided to do that.

if you "swiss cheese" your "box springs" board you can put money in your pocket. cut with like 1 inch - 1.5 inch hole saw, you can probably cut down its weight by 1/3 or more. with no affect on function.

So looking into legal sleeper cab setups. And what I can find says DOt regulations state dimensions have to like 75” long, 2’ wide, and 2’ high from top of mattress. Also says something song the lines that off duty time can’t be spent in the truck. So that keeps you from using off duty time to rest in the truck. Hoping you have some insight

Does this count as a “sleeper” to the DOT? Because you have to either go “off duty” and leave the truck or go “sleeper berth” to stay in the truck as a for hire driver. But I think the DOT has certain mandates as to what is a legal “sleeper berth”. I’m a Class A 18 wheeler driver who’s considering Hot Shot and I’m trying to gather as much info as possible. Thanks.
@frankwells3965 жыл бұрын
steve koelliker if you don’t have a dot legal sleeper. You just go off duty and sleep in truck. Nothing says you have to sleep. Just that you take 10hrs. But you can’t claim sleeper without a legal sleeper

Can you legally sleep in a set up similar to this? I’m looking to get into hot shot trucking but I keep seeing every where that your sleeper berth has to be a minimum of 74 inches wide and have some sort of restraint.
@dotustm89263 жыл бұрын
This is the argument of time. They make kits to cut out your rear doors and counter sink trim. Removes everything in the door so you get another 7" on each end of the bed. But nonetheless the measurement has to be from the bed to the roof, no pickup has passed the bed to roof distance DOT requires. REGARDLESS of what you may see or read on any social media. More or less DOT has gotten so fed up with citing and chasing down people to give warnings that they are starting to ignore hotshots after 10yrs of them breaking the laws because their too stretched thin. So then in return, Hotshots seem to think it somehow became legal.
@dotustm89263 жыл бұрын
Best choice you can do is have 1 of many companies now taking and converting your crew into a sleeper. 10-15,000 or more, with substantial cut/body weld and rework. But then at least you pass the BASIC measurements for birth. But you still wont ever have the "CLEAR PATH to drivers seat"
@Cherokeelion2 жыл бұрын

@TowPiglet6 жыл бұрын
The trucks that enterprise has are dually long bed F350. I asked if they could could get a srw and they weren’t sure they could. So if I were to go dually/enterprise route I’d have to down rate my trailer a little more and I’d have less weight available for freight but that’s a small price to pay in the grand scheme of life because I still owe about 23k on my truck and it has 423k miles on it right now.

So just a little update. After watching this video I went from the backseat of my truck which was very uncomfortable and bought an inflatable rear truck seat mattress. I bought it online 45 bucks 40 bucks I don't know, it came with a 30 day return policy and on the 30th day I got a hole in it and I couldn't find it anywhere and it would not stay inflated. Which really disappointed me because I was sleeping pretty good. anyway so I thought about it for a while and I actually came up with the idea of a extra firm baby crib mattress. They make different sizes I think the one I bought is 52 in Long by 28 in wide, there's a couple sizes that's the larger one there's a smaller one for like a toddler bed. anyway so I bought a Sealy extra firm crib mattress it fits right in the back of my truck it gives me plenty of room when I move the driver seat up as go piglet described. I sleep at the same angle he showed in the video it's a little short set the width is fine I bought a couple $3 pillows and where it's short I just put him down in there and I have no problems.. I actually after sleeping on my back seat itself for 3 days but this last night at 10 pm and a local Walmart. The good news is I slept like a baby it works very well it was $59, I also bought the crib sheet to go over it and everything works just fine. So just a little update to let you know I'm trying different things as tow piglet suggested and I think I ought to be able to stick with this for a while. Feeling refreshed and driving to get loaded. Thank you tow piglet. Hope all you guys out there have a great day. KEEP IT BETWEEN THE DITCHES BOYS. Also voice to text as I drive I hope you guys get the message
