I was his friend. We met in July 2013 during the Internacional Summer Science Institute at Weizmann Institute, Israel. Smart and friendly guy. His movember were the best. Coudn't believe when I first heard about his disappearence. May his family find peace in Jesse's friendships and legacy around the World.

I agree that there’s just too much that lines up with something sinister having happened to him on his trip. It’s sad that someone can’t just live their best life without constantly having to look over their shoulder for those who want to take it all away from them.

Jesse supposedly spoke to others on the trail, mentioning a headache and feeling sick. This could just be the altitude, however, it could be related to his concussion. His brain may have sustained an injury that with the right/wrong circumstances, could retrigger issues. He could have become so disorientated that he wasn't making logical or safe choices. He may have wandered off the track and perished. If someone found him well off the trail, they may have buried or hidden the body for fear of being suspected of being involved, considering they too are well off the trail.

This is so awful. My prayers and thoughts go out to Jesse's family. This happens a lot, people go traveling, hiking in other countries and they dissappear. I also think foul play is involved. Maybe he was a witness to something. So frustrating. I really hope the family finds some clue to what happened to Jesse. Ty girl for bringing this case to light. 👍🏻 🙏🏻

I went to school with a girl named susie. She was a hiker and went on a hikinh trail at high altitude. She was 19/20. Super healthy girl. She got altitude sickness and was unable to even hike back down, the people she was hiking with had to leave her On the trail (someone did stay with her) to go get help and by the time they got back she had died. Apparently it can happen very fast. So sad.

As someone who was born in South America (Venezuela) I think he was met with foul play, it's so easy in these countries to go "missing" specially because he was by himself made him an easier target, I was robbed many times in front of many people and a couple of feet away from the police and they did nothing, so even though this was in Peru it doesn't surprise me because the police works pretty much the same way (with bribe money), maybe an organized group wanted to robbed him and sadly killed him even for shoes I've heard of people being killed (a cousin was killed in March this year on the bus because they wanted his shoes) Another possibility is that he suffered an aneurysm or something like that since he had a head injury before and the altitude may have contributed to that. Also, the guys that saw him feeling sick two days in a row and didn't help him or tell him to go back I find that kind of crappy. I hope his family finds answers. 🙏 sorry I went on a rampage

This is so sick someone could kill for shoes, but I can also believe this because back in my childhood 20+ years ago in Ukraine I did hear of similar cases people who could kick your ass and take away your shoes if they really liked them. But mainly happened in small towns or bad neighborhoods. And I didn't hear someone killing for it. So damn sad :(

Nice to see a fellow Venezuelan here! I went to Huaraz in 2018 and heard about Jesse and how his family has done the most thorough searches looking for him, I also did the same trail. I spent a week in a hostel in town and met some local climbers, they told me that people go missing there because they go when climate is not ideal, or go to spots where they're not supposed to, and the altitud is very challenging maybe that played a part in Jesse's case. The people I met where profesional climbers and hiking guides, they seemed serious and didn't make mention of something weird happening, like local rumors or stuff like that. Personally the days I camped there I woke up every night to throw up (which happens because of lack of oxygen), and when getting to the highest point of the hike you can become disoriented, at points I couldn't walk because my body just wouldn't move, it is a harsh hike specially when you're carrying all your stuff and haven't had the best conditions leading to the most difficult chunk of it. I hope he wasn't met with foul play, he seemed to be an amazing man. Hopefully some day his family will get answers and find some peace.

My condolences to the family of Jesse. I've never heard of this case so thank you for covering it... It's horrific to think that young tall man at his prime age went missing like that :((( It's one thing when you hear of a young woman or a teenager, but this guy wasn't a kid and didn't seem to look for trouble either so it's even more devastating. I went to Peru by myself in 2012 and was hella cautious and read a lot of travel advices for single women traveling in this county. It's definitely not the safest country ever even though they really trying to invest in tourism and it got better. Still not too unusual for white women being kidnapped and never been seen again, so I definitely stayed away from any night time activities and only used English speaking taxi services which was more pricy but considered safer, and stayed in nice areas only.

Having had altitude Sickness in the past I do think you reach a state of mind of not caring, you can’t care your so focused on the headache and even if a blizzard is moving in your so tired you don’t react, the other possibility is chasing water in risky areas. I wish we knew more about how the log book was tampered with. It's possible it had nothing to do with Jesse. Perhaps it was something that was done regularly for funding/resource purposes or so they could have more carriers making an income working the trail than the actual number of visitors required. Maybe it was fraud they were trying to cover up, not something more sinister. I wonder if investigators looked at other days or just the one Jesse went missing. Whatever happened to Jesse, what a tremendous loss for his family and society as a whole. I hope they'll find answers sooner than later.

What gets me too is when people go missing on a trip and are staying in a hotel , where does their stuff go ? Almsot never has a hotel reached out stating the party was missing or on the expected checkout date they found all their belongings in their room. I know some hotels clear the room and what’s left goes to like a lost and found , but when it’s EVERYTHING of theirs give or take , that’s completely different and should be addressed. I wonder if anything was left in the room and if so , what ? Did anything have clues ? Also , were they able to check the last place his phone pinged outta country ? Maybe it’s help as I know he said wasn’t good coverage there bud coulda atleast got a ping as to where that was said or where last contact was made ..

They contact you. You check in with a legal name license/credit or debit card & phone number these days. If you're murdered you probably won't contact them back. Also it's suspicious if someone doesn't contact the hotel asking for their lost luggage. Most likely a missing persons report with the authorities will cause them to go to the hotel & find out they left stuff. Some hotels will mail them to you or put on a flight to you. Pick up at your airport. Last option is if no one contacts hotel it will go to lost & found.

A tight knit community relying on commerce from the park makes one believe that cover ups are easy and unfortunately for their way of life necessary. People who don't have a lot of hiking experience cannot fathom how grueling certain trails can be, especially at high altitude. Furthermore, NEVER travel OR hike alone, particularly in Central and South America. So many young people with beautiful souls have fallen victim to crime in foreign countries. The police departments in these countries are so corrupt that they are totally useless and unhelpful. It breaks my heart that another young person with a pure heart and no experience with criminal behaviors has fallen victim to individuals with nefarious intentions.

Thanks for this video. I have been following this case since it made the newspapers years ago. I felt those French hikers should have been interrogated more fully, even asking French police to investigate. The most chilling report was from the Israeli firm Magnus who were hired to find him. They said the perpetrators did not want Jesse found. So, Jesse was either buried somewhere or his organs were sold for transplant. That is not uncommon in third world countries. Also, I remember reading that the cell phone companies were less than helpful refusing to divulge any text history as a.violation of privacy. I wish and hope his parents get the truth and find Jesse.

Honestly, it sound like he had altitude sickness, and he also had a previous head injury. Its possible he fell off trail somewhere, or perhaps became an easy target. I don't necessarily think there's a huge cover up. But with the high rate of crime, the rugged terrain, (and these things happening all the time); I would just think they didn't want to invite scrutiny or risk their tourist income. They probably are used to throwing their hands up and ignoring any public scrutiny. My heart goes out to his family and prayers for their son. I hope and pray for a miracle, you never know. I guess this is a reality when going off to another country. Sadly. We are used to the way things run in this country and i know I have little to no knowledge of how things work in other parts of the country. I cant imagine their frustration trying to navigate this system.

His poor family. I hope that he is found. I pray that he is found alive. In missing person cases I always hope for the chance that maybe some how the missing person got some kind of amnesia or however it’s spelled. It does seem like something suspicious is happening here. I know that people get freaked out and they panic and do dumb things but I feel like if it was a accident of some kind someone would have said something by now. There is always the chance that he did fall into a body of water and that’s why none of his things have been found either. I couldn’t imagine the pain his family has been going through. I don’t know much about hiking or altitude sickness but I had a TBI (traumatic brain injury) and from my experience depending on how badly the altitude effected him he could have gotten confused and looked vulnerable to the right predator on the trail. Oxygen therapy is treatment for this sort of thing so I can only imagine the deprivation of it no matter how slight would impact our battered brains. he might not have noticed his decreased function until it was too late. Hiking is a physical activity so it’s easy to focus on one foot in front of the other not realizing if someone asked you don’t know your home address (in my experience). I feel like a criminal saw this and took advantage of him. Personally as a latina I can see if he wasn’t acting right before how someone would want to target him in Peru.

My question is, what is the purpose of the log? Is it so they can go looking for people who don't make it back? Were they trying to save their own butts for dropping the ball and not following up when Jesse didn't return? I don't understand why anyone would tamper with a body if they witnessed him die by accident or came across his body afterwards.

This week only I think this is the 4th case I hear of someone going missing during a gap year trip :( Seems rather dangerous to me and I think I am not letting my kids do that. They can travel when they get older, have jobs and a partner to travel with - I can’t go through this as a mother

There are great ways to still travel young! There are group trips you can sign up for where there’s other people in their 20’s as well as a tour leader who knows the area well, knows the language, etc. I think it’s a great idea for solo travelers

Gahhh I adore you! I always want to listen to your videos, but your annunciation and voice grates on me at times. I feel like an asshole saying that, but it’s a little much. You sound soooooo much more fluid in this one!!! Glad to see your improving ❤ I’m resubscribing! This is constructive, not bullying! Swear.

I remember this when it happened. I can say that peruvian police is unfortunately very unhelpful and for a small town like that they probably don’t want to speak at all, even if they know something. I been trying to see if there is any update on the Facebook page but nothing 😢 And as a mom, i really hope that one day he is found to bring some sort of peace to the family

I think it could be as simple as he did pass out and then whether it was locals or other tourists someone took all of his stuff and maybe rolled him into an out of the way spot to let him die instead of getting help for him. Or maybe someone poisoned him with water.

I feel like it has something to do with the Hostel because I’ve seen a story that was about a guy who vanished and things didn’t start getting weird until he left the Hostel. Something is not right.

If he did have altitude sickness, it can cause delirium and he could have wandered off the trail and could be anywhere. I’m not sure about the log books, a criminal using the trails for criminal activity isn’t going to sign the logo books to begin with.

Hello! As someone who lived in Peru for 15 months, alone. It is very beautiful yet dangerous. Police are often involved in organized crimes and it is very rare for them to actually do their job unless they are given a lot of money. It is a third world country and honestly he could have be killed over something as little as his backpack

Maybe someone from the hostile poisoned him and that is why he was ill. Do we know if he had money/valuables on him? Perhaps they wanted to trail after him to get whatever it was they wanted.

Have you heard of the missing woman who was found dead after leaving a trail to use the bathroom and becoming confused? Geraldine Largay. This sounds alot like that, I wonder if he left the trail, and got lost .
