so as far as the whole going to Africa preventing you from being able to donate blood, there is a typical wait period after you travel outside of the US before you can donate blood again if you are traveling to places with a high risk of things like malaria, and there are many of those diseases through out Africa, but that is usually only an 8 weak wait period. Otherwise unless you contract something that would make you unable to donate ever again, there would be no reason that mealy traveling to Africa would prevent you from donating blood.
