Where is Mario Kart 9??

After consistently getting new Mario Kart games for around 3 years at a time, since 2014 with Mario Kart 8 we have been in over 7 years of silence, and Mario Kart 9 is nowhere to be seen. To be fair, it's only been 7 years if you don't count Tour, but uhh, let's not. This video is kinda just a ramble/rant about the lack of Mario Kart 9 idk

Not having Mario Kart 9 wouldn't bug me so much if Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had any DLC to add new tracks and characters within the past four years (and if the game did more to justify the price tag for those who had the Wii U version). Captain Toad got DLC after the Switch re-release, but, for some reason, Mario Kart does not get that treatment. All I know is, I'm not buying a Switch 2 until Nintendo shows a better output of first party games than we got for this gen.

@@olivertown9284 I think they’re bringing it next year but they don’t want to announce it right up until launch so people keep buying 8 until they release 9 and I can tell mario kart 9 is coming soon because they are adding new tracks to tour in Mario kart 8’s hd track style so it’s like they are using your as a beta for Mario kart 9.

I totally agree with this here video, WW! I think it's ridiculous that we haven't got an actual new mainline MK in 7 years, and I am not going to buy Deluxe or the spin-offs, because I am one of the arguably many people who did own a Wii U -- I even still have it to this day! Speaking of which, I saw your 3DS & Wii U Vs. Switch AKA Quality Vs. Quantity video about an hour ago, and I really feel like it is indeed becoming a problem -- Like you said in that video, the Switch library (of holy new games, I'm talking about Switch originals) is way smaller than the 3DS and Wii U combined. I am really concerned about the future and reputation of Nintendo. 😦

This is my theory. Since Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U the team’s latest project was on ARMS. ARMS sold decently well with a little over 2 million units. I’m speculating that they are working on an ARMS sequel since a new Mario Kart game would be useless die to the success of that game.

I'm almost positive Nintendo's just going on cruise control and pouring resources into other series since Deluxe is still selling so well, but that doesn't mean I'm not crossing my fingers for a new one sometime soon. I honestly wouldn't mind bringing back the Double Dash mechanic (albeit not the funky control scheme otherwise), even if only in specific game modes, like how you have Singles or Doubles matches in Aces.

The only other thing that would hold me off of wanting mariokart 9 is giving your god dam controller support. Tour isn’t a bad game it just has stupid gacha mechanics and it uses the funniest controller in existence TOUCH

Last quarterly report for Switch, shows MK8 Deluxe has sold 37.08 million copies. Nintendo has a gold mine of their own. There is no reason to make Mario Kart 9, especially considering it has sold so well, with it being on the Switch console for years. It was released back in April 2017 and is still selling four years after.

A few things: There have been triennial Mario Kart games since DS in 2005, if you don't count non-console games like the arcade ones and Tour, but if you do count Live: Home Circuit, since it's for the Switch. There was Wii in '08, 7 in '11, 8 in '14, 8 DX in '17, L:HC in '20, and then there might be 9 in 2023, but the argument about one game per console could still stand, and that alongside the Switch's projected lifespan could mean that MK9 could be as late as 2026 (unless the Switch's lifespan is prolonged longer than projected, assuming the assumption of 1 major game per console) if there's another filler MK game in 2023, although I can't think of anything that another minor MK game for Switch would likely be. The argument about other big franchises doesn't apply to Mario Kart as much, since the franchises shown, such as Zelda, Pokémon, and Mario platformers, have more plot (NSMB notwithstanding as much, especially considering that NSMB2 and U were released in the same year), which further justifies having multiple games on the same console, but a story mode for Mario Kart is also another possibility, but it would be too big of a deal to demote a game to the status of L:HC. About the Nintendo Kart idea, 8 already edged toward that, with 8 Deluxe going further, and it would be an entirely feasible possibility, and, considering the presence of 3rd party characters in Smash, there could also be lots of 3rd party characters.

They should go back to basics, have two characters per Kart like in Double Dash and ditch the gliders, antigravity and underwater driving

No, that would be extremely boring, the double driver mechanics I would love to bring back for an optional double dash mode, but the gliders, underwater driving, and especially the antigravity made courses more fun, unique, and crazy. I say they should still keep those, plus 9 whenever we get it will have the Wii U and 3DS tracks as retro courses so taking away the stuff that was unique and major to those two games would be very baffling. Once something major is introduced regarding the track layouts, you can’t really go back to basics at all
