Very necessary and informative background to the current situation in Syria. The oil supply route to Israel is a very important factor. Without oil , no IDF. Arab religious and factional disunity only benefits Zionist illegal territorial gains in Syria and prolongs the agony. Will the corruption trial succeed in unseating the Israeli PM? Will Egypt and Israel open the southern border ?

As much as Mr Vijay Prashad is spot on of his indepth Understanding of Middle East n the West's role in destroying it, the fact is minorities lived well under Assad,in fact, protected n privileged, same in Iraq under Saddam. But what is missing here is the bigger picture: it is majority Syrian Population that was disenfranchised, pushed down the ladder, oppressed n tortured by Assad's cronies.., somebody please talk about that, too, would be fair. Now, everybody wishes that all Syrians are treated well,no bloodshed happens.,but bloodshed is also inflicted by CIA..... Syria needs strong allies,it can't survive on its own,considering the fact US n Israel have destroyed it to the core. Assad was a failed leader who sustained his Power, didn't introduce reforms....didn't win his People. Syrians have suffered like Palestinians,the only difference is Palestinians are disappearing in aerial Power of Israel under Plan supported by the West n ditched by Arab Regimes who have also occupied their people to subjugation. New Middle East has to come with unity,solidarity n good leadership. That should be the goal of Arabs.

Very well explained with strong reasoning attached. This discussion was rich because it contained a lot of out of box thinking without dogmatism. Hopefully China, India, Iran and Russia will make a better use of SCO and BRICS to significantly increase cooperation and exchange of ideas in order to shrink the extremism in central and south Asia in order to significantly boost security, trade and friendly interactions. Growth of any kind of religious extremism within or near SCO and/or BRICS will cause serious problems for the future of these organizations. It would also be prudent within these two organizations to demote the countries that fail to adhere to the security principles of these organizations.

Vijay a person of Indian origin, is obviously not aware of the sufferings of the Syrian people at the hands of the dictator Bashar and his cronies. If can't speak to Syrians at least look at the news reports of Sydnaya torcher and execution prison.

I don’t think Westerners understand that the Muslim world doesn’t view Ottoman rule as bad. In fact, they were proud of being part of a strong Islamic empire. Everything functioned well and fairly for them, and they weren’t mistreated. It is Western colonialism that they resent because the West mistreated them and extracted their wealth. Muslims see the Ottomans as part of their identity, and the creation of modern nation-states was forced upon them due to Western meddling and instigating uprisings. Most Muslims wish to restore that sense of unity, except for a handful who were educated in the West and view all forms of colonialism through a Western lens. For many, these small Muslim nations are seen as artificial and imposed by the West.

They want khilafat and sharia back. Western right wingers understand that in their racist or supermesist views, specially in Europe.
@SuperAmir2011
@SuperAmir2011 12 сағат бұрын
@@kapilsethia9284 You are correct about Sharia and the Caliphate, but Muslims do not view race in that way according to Islamic doctrine. Additionally, minorities are to be treated equally and granted the exact same rights, although it would remain an Islamic state. The Sharia often portrayed by small, disorganized, and impoverished factions with little understanding of Islamic jurisprudence is not the same as state-sponsored Sharia implemented in an organized manner. Proper Sharia ensures rights for everyone and is entirely different from the misconceptions people may have. Furthermore, there is no desire to impose this system on non-Muslim lands-that is another myth. Sharia would only apply where the population is predominantly Muslim and the land is already considered Islamic.

However, people involved in the Axis of Resistance have repeatedly said that the loss of Syria is NOT a major defeat for the Axis, though it is a serious strategic setback. The difference between defeat and strategic setbacks are important here. While Vijay is correct on his history, he forgot to mention how Syria's stance changed in the past couple of years, particularly when Al Assad's government decided to try rapprochement with the GCC countries (Gulf monarchies) by scaling down collaboration with the Axis (including refusal to open a front on the Golan Height as the start of the Gaza genocide) as well as refusing Chinese investment proposals for rebuilding (which means a Turkey & Saudi ways to deal with BRICS vountries as whole), which likely led to Russians and Iranians refusing to update anti-air defense systems in the country.

Tgank you so much. I’m a fan of Vijay Prasbad. I just have to correct the host and say that the population celebrating in the streets are in fact “THE population”, to use your words. They are by far the majority population if we want to talk in these colonial terms. This reminds me of the language around US invasion of Iraq and the illegal war and coup against its government and you knew the history of that. But CNN and every idiot in Washington who couldn’t tell Shia from Sunni were all speaking of majority this minority that. I’m disheartened when I hear the left and supposedly progressive people talk like that simply because they don’t share the enthusiasm of Syrians and their happiness for the demise of the most brutal regime of them all. A regime that makes Saddam’s regime seem like an angle. We can respect that at least instead of being like robots with predictable reactions.

It seems odd that China showed huge support during the Assad family's visit to China and coordinated a dedicated flight route and an international Air Force escort for the Assad-chartered flight from Syria to China. Certainly, religion is a big topic for this conflict. It doesn’t mean it’s incoherent. As Vijay points out, firstly it’s a conflict between Suni and Shia. This has been utilized as a divide-and-conquer opportunity for Israel and America. But make no mistake, the Suni jihadists are not real Muslims. Real Muslims are not pro-violence like this. And real Muslims (who are the big majority) will stand on the side of Gaza, Palestine, humanity, anti-imperialism, anti-Zionism, and anti-oppression. So these “jihadists” who collaborate with America and Israel, then turn a blind eye towards Gaza are not true Muslims. They worship money and absolute power.
