Visiting the Lower East Side is so nostalgic for me. I love showing my girls where it all started from Jackson Park to PS 110, we lived the best childhood!

As someone who still lives in nyc (Bronx) I find it hard to enjoy the parts that make me….me. A lot of who I am stems from where I come from but I don’t see the joy of it because of the dangerous area I am in…. It almost feels like there is no way out yet. However, watching your video inspired me to work as hard as I can do that I can look back and cherish where I come from. ❤️❤️❤️

So can relate to your upbringing. Until the age of 10, I lived in the projects in East Harlem; then my mom got a Brownstone on 120th St.; went to elementary school by the FDR. At the age of 13, I wanted to experience living with my grandmother who lived in the Bronx on 180th Street/Bathgate Avenue; then for High School went back with my Mom to attend Norman Thomas HS on 33rd Street. I frequently remember those days and am thankful that we never felt the lack of anything; our community was our world. Like Mama Nilda said: it's not about money; happiness is not money. We learned to appreciate what we had and when we had more, we were so grateful. I now pass down the stories to my son who will share with his child. Each generation sharing what is important in life: God and Family!!!

This video gave me all kind of feels as a native New Yorker. Mama Nildal's story about watching the naked man, we experienced that in Spanish Harlem, We didnt have much, but were happy. And I went to Seward Parkl HS on the lower East Side! The footage of the projects made me homesick. NY pizza and iceys! i now live next door to Puerto Rico in the Virgin Islands. But I will always be that girl from Spanish Harlem and the Lower East Side. #NYpizza #Sewardparkhigh school. Thank you Claude!!!

Hiiii, yay I'm earlyyy. I just wanted to thank you for sharing and starting your KZbin channel. It brings me comfort and peace. And it also helped me with some self acceptance. You have no idea when you and Gerd share how you do things differently, I feel less alone. I'm in a community where doing things differently comes with a price (well maybe it's everywhere), and you have to be strong when being different. Or else you will cave and be like everybody, and there is when authenticity dies. And I've been struggling of keeping my authenticity alive. But when I see your videos, it sparks back life. So, again I wanted to just thank you for sharing, it truly helps.

Dear Claude and Co - I'm in awe of your family. Been watching you from Day 1; following your beginning as via Adrienne & Isreal Houghton whom I'm a #1 fan of!!! Your show is so timely in our great big world! I love how you walk back thru time, revealing your family history ....teaching your children that the greatest life is one "lived". " Lived" wherever you were be planted with a family that genuinely loves each other, celebrated every moment of life in your way and no one knew or thought they were being deprived of anything. Even in your present season of greater blessings, you are not ashamed of where you came from, rather still celebrating your roots and giving praise to God for where he has taken you. PLEASE keep sharing your story.

The nostalgia of being where you grew up is wild. I bought my house 2 streets away from where we lived when I was in elementary. My daughter ended up going to school at the elementary school who's black top we use to hop our fence and play hide and seek in to confuse whoever was it. It was so weird looking at it from the other side as an adult.

The beautiful thing about this channel is that although Claudette lives in a luxurious beautiful home now, she makes me feel grateful to God for all that I have been given, though it was not "much". Happiness truly doesn't come from money, or beautiful houses and cars. Our perspective makes such materialistic things beautiful, and memories of our family is what adds nostalgia to it. Loving the content Claude :)

I grew up in government housing a place called Ripley in Topeka Kansas 🌻. Growing up I loved it so much that I now refer to it as the Rich kids neighborhood!!

The experience of growing up in NYCHA is different for everyone. It definitely made me the person I am. For a long time I was ashamed about growing up in the projects. SO dope that you're open about your upbringing. Thank you for this.

This is so interesting. I grew up in The BX and considered the NYCHA kids lucky with regards to the rental subsidy (I know this isnt really the case). We didnt qualify for NYCHA and eviction was part of our upbringing b/c of financial hardship. Agree, these experiences helped shape us 🙏🏾❤️

I’m going to have to mute my phone for the beginning and end of your videos. EVERY SINGLE TIME I start to cry hearing that music 😅😂 amazing video. You inspired me to take my kids back to where I grew up! (New Yorker here!)

Another wonderful episode. I love how much you love where you came from, the joy and nostalgia was oozing through yours pores. I love that! I feel the same way. My husband and I grew up in the South Bronx, he in public housing and we feel the same way. People assume the worse, yet, I loved my community, our neighbors and had an amazing childhood and wonderful memories that will last me a lifetime. We would look out for one another and had such a sense of community. I was laughing listening to Lana wonder where the volleyball courts and grass were. LOL! A lot of our schools look like yours, but I never felt like I was missing anything. Always a pleasure watching your episodes. ❤

I grew up and am from the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan. Attended PS51 for elementary, The Clinton School for Writers & Artists in Chelsea for JHS and High School for Environmental Studies. My mom attended the same elementary school as me and my siblings. I currently live in the rent control apartment (one of the few left in NYC) my mom was raised in since she was 3 years old! NYC is a special city for sure! ❤️ I’ll be moving soon to NC and will miss it for sure!

I loved this. And mama nilda is correct, it’s not just about money bringing happiness, it’s about the little things, making happy moments for our children. They don’t know anything about money as children. I try so hard with my little girls to make the intention of always doing things together that truly makes them happy, and just pray that they remember these things when they are older. And hold onto it like I do now as an adult, my family immigrated to America with nothing, and I was born here right after they came here. I would have never in a million years known that we grew up without much at first. God bless you guys
