They didn't call it Delhi Sultanat back then. Each "Sultanat" was identified with the ruling dynasty. Such as tughlaq or khilji. The over arching term of Delhi Sultanat was probably invented during colonial years.

Tomars/Tanwars rajput kings of India founded Delhi. They named it Delhika. The ancient delhi contained many different cities like Indraprastha, mehrauli etc Delhi faced enormous invasions from Turks and Mongols. The turks besieged Delhi and named it as Delhi Sultanate. The Silk road also went through Delhi and it's medieval bazaars. Mughals came along they developed Old Delhi and few other parts. British came and they made Delhi their Headquarters of East India company. After independence Delhi was named National Capital Territory- Delhi. Not your best work Patrick :/ Old Delhi as a city has existed since at least AD800 when the Chauhans ruled the area. Epics push its known history back several hundred years more. Even the most famous monuments in Delhi like the Qutb Minar and the Iron Pillar of Mehrauli are 500 to 800 years older than the date you claim the city was founded. Even a simple glance at the wiki page should have corrected you :/

According to my knowledge, in India, we have NCR in which NCT and some cities of Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are included. Then NCT or Delhi divided into some parts (East Delhi, North Delhi, South Delhi etc) and in Connaught place, India gate like area comes under New Delhi and other part Old Delhi ( not sure for South Delhi).

Delhi = National Capital Territory (NCT) is a union territory with perks i.e. it has a legislative assembly. Inside NCT, there is New Delhi which was majorly developed by Edwin Lutyens. Old Delhi is a subset of NCT and is referred to shajahanabad bulit by Mughal emperor Shajahan. *Delhi as a city has been built and destroyed seven times. The current form of the city is the seventh reincarnation. The real old Delhi lies somewhere around quila Rai pithora followed by Mehrauli, Kilokri, Deenpanah, Tuglakabad (some of which I don't remember).

NCT, Delhi, New Delhi are the same thing. National capital territory (NCT) is known as New Delhi which is the capital of India. Old Delhi is only a historic region within New Delhi. This New Delhi has expanded in size over the decades came to include many villages and divisions within itself as the urban area grew. National capital region(NCR) is another official classification which includes cities and towns from neighbouring states of Up, haryana and Rajasthan such as Gurgaon, Noida, Faridabad, Ghaziabad etc which together along with NCT of Delhi comprise NCR. Delhi is neither state nor union territory but has some characteristics of both

I think you should've elaborated upon all the Delhis that were built in the area of the National Capital Territory throughout history. Shah Jahan's Delhi wasn't the first Delhi but it's the oldest Delhi to have survived. Previous rulers of the Delhi Sulatanate (and other rulers before them) have all had their capital city of "Delhi" in separate areas of the modern National Capital Territory (especially towards the south).

Come on, man. Just googling Old Delhi gave me the same answer you did. Doing a little digging for five minutes gave me a more accurate answer, the city/settlements is hundreds of years older than just 500, and the area has been inhabited for thousands of years.

Not really that confusing when you get used to it, as a westerner i was kinda befuddled by nomenclatures like that but after a bit of travelling to more ancient places in the middle east and Asia and a lot of ancient cities like Damascus and Alexandria and a lot of places in israel have old city districts, with the new part of the city surrounding it.

Other cool random facts about Delhi from an Indian. New Delhi is clean, has wide grand boulevards and is home to the elites and embassies and such. Old Delhi is where many of the regular people (working class) live and as such is out of control with the building, traffic, cows on the road etc. Mumbai has a large population and contributes more GDP I believe than Delhi. An empire called the Delhi Sultanate ruled much of North India at one point. There are lots and lots of historical sites to visit in and around Delhi!

I guess quite similar to Metro Manila and the City of Manila. Manila can be referred to the Metropolitan area or Metro Manila(comprised of dozens of cities and municipalities)or also the City of Manila which is part of Metro Manila. Metro Manila is also called NCR(National Capital Region). At least "Intramuros District" distinguishes the old walled-city of Manila 😉

Delhi is a union territory and within it are 7 medieval cities whose boundaries do not hold any relevance today including Shahjahanabad. The Britishers thought of building a new capital in Delhi and they chose a place which was not part of any of the 7 cities so they named it New Delhi. Old Delhi is a place Delhi which has many of the medieval buildings as the name suggests. Candni chowk, jama masjid are all located in old Delhi. Parliament, Canaught place, India Gate are located in New Delhi. National capital region is just Delhi.

“El” means “the” in spanish. So does La, Las, and Los and they are used depending on the plurality and gender of the word the article is attached to. Also, San and Santa mean Saint, so San Antonio means Saint Antonio, the spanish were and are very Catholic so a lot of cities are named after saints.

The corny thing is that almost all the spelling systems of the world are simple and logical, and resemble each other - except English :) Well it has its sound schange history, why it's understandable how the main way to pronounce English has formed. And the loads of loan words. which are easy to adapt to English in their original spelling form because of the flexibility of the spelling. I assume the i in dil is short, though clear in quality as in deel.And the L is double long in speech? In Finnish it is. Anything written double, we pronunce double long. Well, physical measurements estimate about 2,5 times longer. Guess it's for to be sure :) The way the English would pronounce the dilli in the extreme way, we Finns would spell 'dilai', like the Star Wars Jedi. Which we should spell Dzhedai.

You are wrong when you say old delhi is inside new delhi. The union territory of delhi contains 11 districts, out of which new delhi and central Delhi(aka old delhi) are seperate entities. They are adjacent to one another. So the correct hierarchy is: India->NCT->new delhi + old delhi + etc. Where etc is other 9 districts of delhi.

After the 2nd World War, the town Gorica with 50/50 split of Italians and Slovenians at the time was given to Italy and Slovenians living there were unhappy with that, so a new town was made for them and kinda became the symbol of socialism in the area as it was built by the people living there.
