@ashuraikvar73206 жыл бұрын
Jagadeesh Haribabu can add to that list.Except Afghans under Gauri ,Gazni and ahmadshah abdali, Iranians under Nadir shah,central Asians under Timur lung,and of course the British. In the nutshell Few who came with above mentioned exceptions stayed back.most left.That include the British too. It is not the result rather the question of intentions British including all those other exceptions had no intention of settling here.It was just a colony for British to be drained of its wealth for making their homeland more prosperous. For others it was land of too much wealth to be looted.

2:14 there is no evidence connecting king Dhillu with Mauryan empire, though they were coterminous 13:50 "(Subuktgin) turned his attention to the Hindu Shahis. The latter ruled the territory from Lamghan to the river Chenab and from the hills of southem Kashmir to the frontier kingdom of Multan. Their capital was Waihind or Hund. In 986-7 their king, Jayapala, in retaliation for an earlier incursion by Subuktigin into his territory, marched upon Ghazni, but was defeated by Subukti- gin. Jayapala made peace, promising to pay a huge indemnity, but later he repudiated his word. Then, joined by a number of other Hindu rajas, he again marched on Ghazni, but was once more badly defeated between Lamghan and Peshawar"(p.12,The Wonder that was India Part II, SAA Rizvi) ......"Mahmud is, however, more famous for his Indian conquests, which commenced in September 1000, when he captured some forts near Lamghan. His earlier invasions of the territory of the Hindu Shahis and their supporters, as well as that of the lsma'ilis of Multan, were designed to clear·a way into the rich Gangetic plains. In 1001 he fought a fierce battle against Jayapala near Peshawar and defeated him. Returning to the Panjab, Jayapala died and was succeeded by his son, Anandapala' (p.13Ibid). Infact, there was a Tomara king in the name of Jayapala, based in Delhi who was contemporary to these developments. In truth, he has nothing do with those incursion. It's during the Ghurid period Delhi becomes the centre of attraction, after the demise of Pritviraj Chahaman

Delhi comes from the word Dehleez, not Dhillu. Even in many older Urdu texts, the city is called "Dehli", which was later corrupted to "Dilli". (Also, the English spelling comes from this archaic pronunciation.)

I wonder what motivated the sepoys to fight for the British. Not much material on the web other than the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, which is so misleading because the sepoys built British India; they never destroyed it.

its sad how these monuments are not being restored and left abandoned which can generate loads of revenue and image for dehli and india. i think the psyche of indian rulers there hindu vs muslim bias is plaguing indian monuments.
@sunswadesh6 жыл бұрын
Most of these monuments are in fact in great condition and are protected. The archaeological society doesn't recommend rebuilding these monuments as then they are no more heritage structures. The red fort is incredibly well preserved and the national flag is hoisted from there during the independence day.

Delhi is derived from the Hindustani word 'dehleez', i.e. the entry point or the threshold. In the old days, after crossing the five rivers of the Punjab, travellers/invaders would find some respite in Delhi and recommence their conquest/travels from that area. That is why in the old British records, you would see Delhi spelt not as D-E-L-H-I but as D-E-H-L-I.
@tkbagga6 жыл бұрын
