Yeah when I lived in Rhode Island as a kid it was called a bubbler

The bubbler was made by Benson a very rich person in the early days that lived and helped build parts of Portland Oregon he owned a hotel and helped made these bubblers that is how it got its name Benson bubbler. They still exist in Portland and people have found ways to fill bottles with the water out of them.

I'm from Milwaukee, and I'll also add the important missing detail that is missing, the name came originally from the BUBBLER DRINKING FOUNTAIN COMPANY of Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA. Each one had the word BUBBLER in big friendly letters formed into its bowl

Bubbler is a common term for them in Australia. No one says "drinking fountain". Not sure what other countries says.

Water fountain, drinking fountain. Both of those I get. Bubbler? One would think some kind of bubble would have to be involved.

I have never heard anyone call a drinking fountain a bibbler but I feel.like I'd figure it out pretty quick
