These are private development. They are only concern with their property and will not combine Finances to fix the road and drains and side walks. It is a problem across Africa.

That sounds great but comes with significant cost. Most African countries don’t have a significant tax base which is how infrastructure is typically payed for. I’m sure corruption plays a significant role but not having the economic wherewithal through taxes ( which many of us are attempting to decrease and avoid) makes infrastructure building difficult.

My wife & I almost bought a house right on the road near Sheraton Hotel from a British ( Linda still remember her because the conversation went beyond the purchasing ) lady who was getting divorced & had to quickly show the house as she was getting ready to go pick her ex husband at the airport. Hope all went well for them we lost touch after several months. It was my first visit in 20 years in 2010. I really appreciate this segment because we never had a chance to see anything in the area but Linda’s place. Respects.

Brufut Gardens is a private housing scheme built by Taf in 2006 so the estate is 15 yrs ago and gradually deteriorating. The estate has over 400 houses, consisting of 2 and 3 bedroom bungalows and 4 bedroom duplex So there is a mixture living on the estate. Brufut Heights is where you will find the rich, land and ready built much more expensive at Brufut Heights as those are beach front properties. When Brufut Estate was built, it was a beautiful estate, with bitumen roads, tree lined roads, gardeners to attend the plants abd flowers along the walkway and 24hr security. Foreigners bought most of the larger houses but hardly living there but used as holiday homes. Taf sold off all the bungalows and duplexes. All property owners were sent a letter stating all must pay a yearly service charge. This service charge is for security and maintenance of the estate. Nobody willing to pay so the Estate is left to get run down. They rather see it in this condition than to pay a yearly maintenance fee.

@@AFRICANTIGRESS It is nearly across the road from Brufut Gardens. Coming from the direction of Turntable, before you get to the Madiba Mall at Taf Estate, Brufut Heights is over on the right near to the sea. It is on the same side of the road before the Labranda Beach Hotel. I think Global Properties has built up some apartment there. A good plot could cost about 10k or so I was told when I enquired.

This is not we're the rich are living in The Gambia, normally rich people don't even buy houses inside Estates, as they want to build massive homes, away from the busy areas.
