Sometimes, putting a plan into action doesn’t work as well as you think it will. That happened on this trip. It started out as a two-day desert camping trip. I had planned to visit a remote cabin in the Arizona desert, find an epic desert camp among the saguaro cactus, and continue exploring the desert along four peaks trail the following day. I believe my lofty standards for an epic camp hindered my efforts. While I did find numerous campsites, none lived up to my expectations. So, I pushed on, eventually settling for Pondarosa Campground late that night. I was somewhat redeemed when I found one of the best camps that I have camped in among the scattered mountain pines and wild horses. This video depicts, somewhat, the diversity of the Arizona landscape. From the Gila Monsters and cactus of the desert, to the tall pines, mule deer and wild horsed of the high mountains. I am falling in love with Arizona. I hope you enjoyed going along. #camping #sonorandesert #jeep #nationalforest #boondocking #campinglife

When we visited Arizona 11 years ago I looked at all the trails going off the main road and wondered where they went . We had a car so exploring was out so we stuck to the main roads . It’s a very beautiful state . It looks like you and your pup are having a great time . Stay safe .

Information is a lot more abundant now. I downloaded the ‘Trails Off-road’ app to research potential trails and difficulty levels. I wanted to explore more remote trails, but was afraid to push it too much with my being alone and so far from home. I’m leaning, the more I research different areas, the more I find that I want to see. So much to see, so little time.

@@Steve_Chandler Now that I have bought myself on older Jeep (2011) I would like to explore like you do but don’t like the idea of doing it alone . I will have to see if my old off road buddy would be interested in.

I totally understand the reluctance to explore solo. I try to give my Jeep a thorough inspection before I head out and not get myself into bad situations. I have also added road side assistance to my insurance policy. I usually have at least two days of supplies on hand in case I do get stranded. But, I do enjoy the freedom that comes from traveling alone.
