@RealRuralJapan "i plan ... to include rescuing stray cats in my area to turn it into a Cat Cafe" This world needs more people like you! Showing empathy by saving unfortunate cats from a hard life is sadly not all that common, so many people nowadays harden their hearts and either look away or ignore all the abandoned/feral cats. I've been feeding my local abandoned cats now for about 5 years and they look better than ever thanks to a consistent feeding schedule, they've become socialized to each other due to always eating together, and I buy cat meds in bulk from places like canadapetcare to save money. I'm not sure how prices are in Japan but in the USA, pet medicine has become insanely expensive if you live in a metropolitan area. Just wondering, does Japan - even in the countryside - have TNR programs?

I’ve worked in the restaurant business in America for almost 25 years. My first job as a bus boy I brought bread to people’s tables and knew only one old man the whole 15 years I worked there that said he couldn’t eat gluten. Years later I worked at a Thai restaurant and was speaking to a lady who was in town for a dietitian conference. She told me that the key note speaker spoke about wheat intolerance and much like atkins, a new gluten free trend would start. Sure enough, I started encountering gluten free people on weekly basis. Now I work in a high-end sushi restaurant. From time to time I have guests tell me they are gluten free. When I tell them the soy sauce has gluten, the allergy goes away and only applies to bread. My Japanese guests never have gluten allergies lol.

Watch the documentary The Century of Self a doco done about Sigmund Freuds nephew. He coined the term public relations PR when it used to be called the propaganda dept. He went on to be the chief consultant for the food industry and was also the chief manipulator of the suffragettes who he used to get women to smoke to boost tobacco sales for the tobacco industry. People don't like to be told they have been manipulated and the simple ones get hostile if you even suggest they may have been.

I had a girlfriend who had Celeacs disease and zero tolerance for gluten. We had to use tamari sauce instead of soy sauce and many times the chefs didn't want to give us a bottle because it's more expensive than soy sauce. She absolutely hated people who did it as a fad but could still eat it.

@xfloodcasual8124 There is a large segment of the population that want to be the center of attention and having a bogus health condition is a ticket to that.
@Thejugglingbum

@@xfloodcasual8124 yeah exactly. People with celiacs and gluten intolerance exist but the amount of people who actually have it is way less. As I said I met maybe one or two people when I first started working in restaurants who claimed gluten intolerance. Now, 20 years later; not a week goes by that someone says they can’t eat gluten and more often than not it’s some young girl who is just on a diet. In fact, I read that it is genetically impossible for there to be as many people with gluten intolerance.
@xfloodcasual8124
@xfloodcasual8124 2 ай бұрын
@@Thejugglingbum that’s funny. If people prefer to not eat gluten they can just say it as such. I know I feel a lot less bloated after eating a gluten free pizza than the wheat one, but it doesn’t taste as good. Never understood fad diets!

Hey, it isn't that expensive. Start an overseas fund. Here are some ideas: stop paper products (use cut up old tshirts for nose blowing, get a$40 toilet sprayer or shower off instead of toilet paper, buy washable polyester thrift store napkins. I save $400/year. Drink water, homemade tea or homemade coffee. Bank the savings. Etc. After 10 years you will have a travel fund.

This was so relaxing and nostalgic. I used to live in Osaka and shop at Daiei usually and a private supermarket that used to make all these great fried foods like squid, shrimp, croquettes in panko and then various tenpura as well. The ladies were so nice to me when I saw them. They used to get me nice pieces for dinner when I got home from work because a lot of the items were now on sales for the evening. Reminds me how much I love life there and how I want Japan to succeed.

I wish the camera hadn't been moving so fast, as whole sections were just breezed over with nothing said. Having never gone to Japan, I would have been fascinated to see different sections, but I stopped the video because I couldn't see what the product were other than the fish and a little meat, a blur of fresh vegetables. For people who are familiar with Japanese cuisine, I imagine most of this is pretty boring, but for some of us, we we would like to slow down so we can look at the products a bit. We have a Chinese supermarket in my town, and they carry so many things that are ethnic food items for Orientals, and to me it's like a museum of food when I go in there, even though I don't know what most of it is. Even the vegetables look interesting, and different noodle preparations. I love Chinese, Thai and Japanese food.

When I grew up, a long time ago. Most people were poor after the war. And my mum used to go to the fiash shop to ask for fish heads. To make fish soup on them. In the end, I remember us getting them for free every time. I used to love how they tasted, just like crab meat. And it were so soft and delicous. These days they are hard to find, so loved this shop!

I also find that if u have the head as opposed to the fillet, you can see how fresh the fish is. I.e eyes are the first thing to go milky with age. A common practice is to sell whole fish when super fresh, then when they age, turn them into fillets to disguise their age/freshness. I was amazed the first time i went to a supermarket in Fukui prefecture how fresh the fish was. Arguably fresher than the fish i buy at the vic market in Melbourne australia. I can smell the fish sections in the 2 larger supermarket chains in australia from 20 meters away. I would never buy fish from a supermarket in oz but would have no hesitation in japan - regards markc

@@Mr__Chicken I'm in the UK, EVERYTHING here has become expansive in the 10 years, perhaps its due to Brexit and the war in europe. Worst part, the quality isn't especially good compared to what you can find in Japan. Eating out in Japan is relatively affordable if you don't go for the different forms of wagyu beef (Kobe, Mishima, Yonezawa and Matsusaka). Fruit however is a little pricy if you want something fresh, however there is always veg juice is is soo yummy. When it comes to Junk & Fast food in Japan, it's roughly half the price of the UK for the same meal and they more variety!! I feel we're getting scammed in the UK.

At the end of many shifts after midnight i used to go and get an oily chicken kebab from the dude near the petrol station. Thats because i like it. The best food is the food YOU like not what someone else says should like. If you look at the floorboards of many a chef's car you will find food wrappers and then you will know what they actually think is good as opposed to what they are selling you. Where do you live in Japan? Does all of Japan have sever earthquakes? Are certain places better to live than others concerning this?

@@RealRuralJapan Thank you. Are there any restrictions for foreigners working in Japan because of age? In South Korea unless you are sponsored by a company 62 and old the internet said they don’t hire older workers. I have been considering moving overseas because I like the culture. I did have the privilege of living overseas when I was younger. So kind of feeling out and trying to get advice from others. I am turning 66 but no one thinks I am my age. They all think I am at least 10 to 15 years younger. And no they are not being nice. Would appreciate any input. Thank you.

That is over mandatory retirement age for many jobs here. I would do the HelpX Japan thing and see what you think after that.

This mandatory retirement age is very odd to me. I live in the US. My family work well into there 80,s. Not because of need. Because they enjoy working and being active. I would be bored out of my mind if I didn’t work. I do not plan on retiring until I physically or mentally can’t work. So do I understand that in Japan people over the age of 62 can’t work because people won’t hire them because of their age?? Am I understanding this correctly? I was very disappointed when I read this online for South Korea. But I was not sure if this was just a misunderstanding on the internet. I guess this might be one of those cultural shocks you experience. ??

13:03 Chicken giblets are fed to cats without seasoning, right...? You didn't feed the cats seasoned, high-sodium meat, etc. for human consumption, did you...? You are opening a cat café, so you must know a lot of things, but just in case...

Of course but they will feel it the least of all the shops. For example, my biggest cost is good quality cheese and i cant raise my prices so it is hurting us big time.

The problem with food in Japan, or anywhere else in Asia is the fact that it’s genetically modified. seriously if you go to a Japanese supermarket, I can almost guarantee you that every item will be somehow genetically modified because I’ve been shopping for Japanese groceries for decades, and it appears that more and more of them are genetically modified the complete opposite of organic
