Yes...when I put that list together, I thought to myself "Jeez Mike what have you been doing for the last 2 years" Yesterday was a good example...I thought spend 5 minutes and fix some electrical gremlins associated with the fuel gauge, only to discover (after many hours!) that someone had wired the fuel sender plug incorrectly. Hi Mike, sounds like you are and have been happy with Uro parts. I'm hearing quite a lot of complains and suggestions to avoid Uro parts due bad quality...some even say those are junk so your experiences are good to hear. Thanks!
@MikesMercsandothercars2 ай бұрын
Yes - I remember seeing a Pierre Hedary video a while back calling Uro relays 'junk'. Maybe he had a bad experience or there was a faulty batch? All I can say, is that my experience has been great and thus far I haven't experienced any problems. I have however saved a fortune on parts which really matters on such a big and full restoration such as this. I would never recommend something to viewers if I didn't think it was a good deal. I suspect that in many cases, the same factories and suppliers supply both Mercedes and Uro. Mike

Mercedes stopped selling spare parts to independent dealerships in 2011. Independent dealers had to switch to reproductions. At the beginning, customers were informed when reproductions were offered. Nowadays independend dealers don`t do that anymore. Everyone acts like they have original parts. Of course, there are sometimes significant differences in execution and quality. But most customers don't care because almost every car is now being restored with reproductions. Most repros are produced in Asia and sold through independent dealers in the USA and Europe.

@@ODTK268 Yes I agree. I find that genuine mercedes parts from an independent such as the SL Shop will be simply have a mark up....Sometimes you can get lucky and find 'old' 'new' stock...what would we do without ebay! Mike
@ODTK268Ай бұрын
Sometimes it makes sense to mix parts. For example with the 113 headlights. You buy the Asia repros, which are now available everywhere, and equip them with Bosch spare parts and Bosch glasses. In other cases I use new original parts from old stocks. I also use good used parts. I slaughtered a few 113s in the past.

Your comments always prompt me to have a look at the progress you are making on your car. I always feel so jealous when I see the pristine state of your car...the way those screws just come right on out. Maybe its time to move to Arizona... Mike

@@MikesMercsandothercars you are so right Mike. Our environments are total opposites. Here in Arizona you can walk in the rain and not get wet. That’s how dry it is. The ONLY rusted bolts were two bolts going through the water pump and into the block which I stripped while removing. I also found a little surface rust where the windshield washer tank sits. I think I am about ready to start it Mike. I just confirmed I have spark from the coil when manually jumping it with a power supply. Today I will confirm that the crankshaft position sensor and the EZL will send pulses to the coil. If it does, the engine should/will start. You cannot finish this R107 before I start mine Mike. The race is on! 🏎️

@@MikesMercsandothercars - Company called Eurotop sells original softtops . They delivered Mercedes Classic with their products. While removing the old soft top you will learn how the soft top is attached. I do the work myself because I like to take the time to clean the bare frame and return it to new condition.

Many thanks for another great video. I found that with my 1980 SLC getting it back on the road also cost more than the price of the car. Not that it bothers me as I wanted to see if I could fix it but it does remind one once again that not every car is worth saving financially. Regarding spare parts, SL shop and SLS as you mention are excellent for hard to find parts even post paying postage to California. In the USA Pelican parts and Autohausaz are also very good. I would also mention mbpartsource but they only have original MB parts but do offer discounts which at times makes them cheaper than either Pelican or Autohaus. Not been that impressed with eBay here, parts are often cheaper elsewhere unless they are NLA. Like you I try to avoid cheap knockoffs from China, so Febi or Lemforder have been the way to go. But I do always check with mbpartsource as they sometimes have OEM stuff cheaper. Best of luck with the project and take care.

@@MikesMercsandothercars yep, esp on the slc, if there is rust, needs a paint job or new interior, the car had better be for free or it isn’t worth it. Sad but c’est la vie.

Hi Mike, your help is much appreciated. I just sent off a question to Rock Auto. I ordered a Burlwood shifter from another company, and the shaft doesn't match the stock shaft. It is too tall, and when in PARK, the head of it is shoved against the climate control buttons.

Hi Mike. I have followed your progress over the years. I am renovating a 280SL. I am currently welding up the bulkhead and the scuttle panel. I needed your opinion on the drainage of water . I understand that water coming in from the scuttle will flow toward the center and be evacuated through those plastic pipes situated around the blower heater. What happens to the water which flows towards the wings in either side. The panel is so rusted that I cannot see where the drain holes are (if there are any). If there are where Al should they be and to where do they drain out to? Thanks as always
