Another great video! Very informative and helpful. Jeff, I'm very new to the hot tub world. So new that I don't even have mine yet, it's set to be delivered in December (Covid, what can ya do?!). I was looking through your videos and didn't see anything pertaining to must haves a new hot tub owner should have. I know my new hot tub is coming with all the chemicals to start, cover and steps. I think a great video topic that you should do would be to provide a list of the items every new hot tub owner should have so they can hit the ground running! I'm trying to rack my brains to think of all the stuff I would need but hearing from experience would be helpful! Keep the videos coming!

Thanks, Mike. Another viewer just left a very similar comment, so I'll get on that in the next few weeks.

From what Ive read, you can drain the water into the sewer via a cleanout. Most every house has a cleanout that's about a hose length away from their jacuzzi. This would not apply to a septic tank obviously.

I think when Jeff says "don't dump your tub into a sewer drain", he means a storm drain. Which is absolutely correct, please don't dump to the street or into a storm drain. A waste line cleanout should be perfectly fine to use. If there's no main line cleanout in the ground, most homes will have a kitchen waste cleanout on the exterior wall, under the kitchen window.

How long do you leave the cover open for sunlight before emptying it out?

My hot tub is built into the floor of the bacement and hasent seen a drop of water in over 7 years, however I would like to start it up for the first time sence the previous property owners used it. The problem im struggling with is the extreamly hard calcium saturated water from the well, eny ideas.

Yes. I have fairly high calcium levels too. So I use Leisure Time's Defender (amzn.to/3o5gfv2) to keep the calcium and scale at bay.

Jeff, our hot tub is on order, but after seeing this video I am concerned about all the water from the hot tub seeping through the ground into a location that feeds our water well. Your thoughts?

Moved into a home that house a hot tub. Whats the easiest way to drain it so i could get rid of it? I dont know how to access the drain pipe
@joshb96235 ай бұрын
If there is a removable panel on the side of the tub, you'll likely find the drain plug there. Otherwise you can get a small submersible pump to drain the tub quickly. Good luck!

So lets say the water of your hot tub is full of water, then 7 people get into it. What happens to the water that is displaced by the 7 people? Does it spill over the top, or does it go into a tank? Do you need to manually refill the hot tub once the 7 people get out? Or is it a closed system where the displaced water gets pumped from the aforementioned holding tank and then automatically refills the displaced water back into the tub? I’m such a hopeless hot tub newbie. 🤦🏻♂️

Don't fill it to the brim, and water won't overflow. There's no reserve tank, so you'll have to replace lost water.

what is a safe ppm of bromine to pour on the lawn? In california it's a shame to waste water that could be used on the lawn.

The best method is to stop adding chemicals to your hot tub 2-5 days before you plan to drain it. You can also leave the cover off and run the jets over those days too to help it dissipate. And you could lower the temp as well. All of that will make is less damaging (or not damaging to the grass). But the 1st time you do it, I might still start in an inconspicuous area, and I would use a test strip first to make sure the levels don't register whatsoever.
