Our two favorite beach restaurants between Portofino and Camogli are a bit hidden and not easy to get to but definitely worth the trip. Join us for 2 epic 8 hour lunch experiences on the Portofino Peninsula on the Italian Riviera. One in San Fruttuoso Bay and the other at Punta Chiappa. We hike our way to the restaurant. We swim to refresh ourselves before the meal and we eat the most delicious food before we ride the boat back home.
Positano Peninsula offers a less-touristy alternative to the UNESCO Cinque-Terre that is no less instagram-able. Located less than thirty kilometers from Genoa, the promontory sits between the charming and colorful fishing village of Camogli and the glitzy, Disney-like tourist haven of Portofino. A protected nature park, the olive and oak tree-covered peninsula offers sea views from a walking trail up high, turquoise swimming coves on descent, and ferry boat services to help you cover the distance.
The first eight hour lunch. La Cantina Restaurant nestled beside the Abbey of San Fruttuoso (Abbazio di San Fruttuoso) in a tiny cove of San Fruttoso Bay.
The video begins on the ferry from Camogli where you ride across the Golfo Paradiso to your first restaurant destination at La Cantina, on San Fruttoso Bay. The restaurant hides in a little nook of rocks with a private beach of pebbles and shallow turquoise water. The best seats in the house, four umbrellaed tables, sit directly on the beach. You make a reservation to be sure you get one.
Traditional Food of Liguria at La Cantina
Your authentic experience encompasses the best local dishes: spaghetti with clams, (spaghetti vongole), fried calamari, and fresh fish of the day like Orata. The restaurant cooks the fish and brings it to you at your table whole before deboning. You ask to leave the head on, if you like!
Second eight hour lunch. Dö Spadin, tucked into the rocky seaside just before Punta Chiappa.
Today you really live the local life. You make a whole day loop of hiking, swimming, eating, ferry boating, and more hiking. From San Rocco, you walk the mostly downhill trail through the oak and olive trees to Punta Chiappa. Along the way, you detour to the tiny hamlet of Mortola, only accessible by foot, moped or Ape. Nearing the Punta Chiappa, just before the restaurant, at the boat ramp, you cool off by joining the locals for a refreshing dunk in the lapping sea.
For lunch you indulge in octopus salad with potatoes and fried chick pea, spaghetti with clams, swordfish pasta, and calamari. You drink the local wine called
After lunch, take the ferry back to Camogli from the Punta Chiappa ferry dock.
