Dear Matt and Connie. Words could never be enough to say thank you for all you have done to help us new prospectors along the the way. Your classes, and the the information you provide for us small scale miners is priceless. All of us are indebted to you both for helping us with invaluable information. I have found 90% of the work is in the research. The tools you have given us have saved countless hours of work, time and money. God bless you for caring and sharing.

Thank you for your kind comment, Brian. We hope these films preserve the methods that worked for us, and are passed along so others can live independently as we have been fortunate to do. Very best of luck to you in the field!

I am just starting to prospect in Potugal. My surrounding strata seems to be composed of mainly metamorhosised quartzite. I have no real geology knowledge. Are there any sources you can recommend that i can study so i may better understand the gold potentiality of Portugal. Many Thanks for your time and your videos over the years.

I think the good news, is geology is geology - anywhere in the world. When I first started, everything was extremely confusing, as I tried to memorize everything (all the symbols, arcane language, etc.) - impossible. So I started thinking in terms of size and formation. What types of combinations produced pure products - or large pieces as opposed to small grains. That made things much easier. Igneous formations meant large flows of pure material - metamorphic meant melted masses of small grained material - that kind of thinking will help you. Look for USGS materials - the US is somewhat of a misnomer, they (and NASA) have/are mapping the whole world for minerals. I hope my reply helps you and sure wish you the best of results!

Are they’re spots in Illinois?
@mattmattsongold6 жыл бұрын
"Unconsolidated deposits, mainly glacial drift, overlie the bedrock surface in most of Illinois. Data are originally from ISGS Circular 490 by Piskin and Bergstrom (1975), Plate 1. Contour lines are coded with thickness, and polygons (areas between contours) are coded with range of thickness." -- plug in Glacial Drift Illinois . . . where the glacial drift stopped in the last ice age - and rivers cross that (especially where they've showered down to bedrock - is the easiest place to find gold (back to the Canadian line. The more you research, the less legwork you'll have to do. Good luck!

cute curious little fishes.. hope they didnt get sucked up in the vac.hose
@mattmattsongold3 жыл бұрын
I know - you would think they would be ground to hamburger - but I've never seen one get sucked up. Sometimes there's hundreds of them too, eating the worms that come out - and at the back are more getting the ones they miss. Connie and I saw many things doing that - and we're glad we didn't say no to adventuring. Safe travels to you!

@@mattmattsongold In all your videos didnt see any fish get sucked up by the hose, and Im sure it would have been a mess on the other end and seen by others if they had. Thanks for sharing all the info! (Just wondering how much gold you guys got over the yrs :-o ) God Bless!

And am I correct that recreational dredging in Oregon is now against the law?
@mattmattsongold7 жыл бұрын
At the present time, Oregon (and California) are a mess. They have enacted dredging moratoriums until they study dredging, and not one of the legislators seems to know what dredging is. Sending them this movie would help . . . At present, law enforcement doesn't seem to know if it can even enforce the dredging ban (for now) and there is a lawsuit to open it up again (both states) - it is a complete fiasco. Again, sending a movie (or movies that educate) and voicing our concerns is the only way we'll bring sanity back to the situation IMO because at present they only hear from the heads of these "environmental" groups that have the tactic of "sue and settle" cases where they sue the state for allowing dredging, then settle for millions before the case gets so big they run up against the 1872 mining law in Fed court. The process is so costly the least costly thing for the state to do is "ban" dredging by making it impossible to get a permit (California) or dependent on some study to have to happen (Oregon). Hello sir! I have been looking at the surveys and I am planning a trip out to Nevada this week and I don't see any Low-sulfide Au-quartz deposits anywhere in the southern region. My question is what kind of deposits would you say to go for if that one isn't present in the area? Thank you so much for the video!
@mattmattsongold7 жыл бұрын
Other things to look for are mineral data from mines - then I'd look for "alluvial deposits - quartz veins - intrusive rocks" (these indicate possible gemstones). Takes some practice and maybe a few trips to get good at locating things from home, but you'll do it! Here's an example - you see the mines below have gold (could be mines long closed down with tailings piles) so there's gold in the area - now look for other reports with "alluvial deposits" -- or you can look for gemstones as I stated above -- there will always be something to look for This from the SE corner of Nevada (click on pink areas at the tip): Longitude: -114.146444Latitude: 36.222268Site nameDevelopmentCommoditiesTreasure Hawk Mine & MillOccurrenceAU Lytle CrystalsOccurrenceQTZ Winona GroupProspectAU QTZ Treasure Hawk MinePlantAu
