One of the best meals I've ever eaten was spaghetti, pecorino cheese and black pepper. That's it. Roman food is incredible!

Finally, list of restaurants in Roma that are not exclusively for tourists. I do have to say though that the ‘proper’ recipe for Carbonara involves whole eggs and egg yolks, not just the yolks. Also, most of the top places for cacio e pepe use a blend of Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano Reggiano. Lastly, in my opinion, Checchino belongs on this list.

You are so wrong about Armando. Had dinner there about a week ago… and it was awful. REALLY awful. Compare it to SALTIMBOCCA!!! Had dinner at Saltimbocca three times out of a week stay it was SOOO good!

It was so bad that I cancelled another pending reservation . The service was not good either. I quietly shared that the food was not tasty but there was no attempt to replace it. Very disappointed!

This was my 4th week long visit to Rome. I dressed well to go to Armando. I was pleasant, smiled and simply expected the delicious “taste” from food. I had found this “deliciousness” twice at Da Vittorino in Travestere. And also lunch at Hotel Russie. I also have to say, the atmosphere at Armando’s was not pleasant. No music. White walls.

Any restaurant across from a tourist attraction is not going to be true Italian.. think about it whose it do you go ti the tourist spots in your town, no you know the side street secret spots.

Armand Al pantheon was horrible. I could have gotten by the surly service. Besides being overhyped. There was not one dish that passed mediocrity. The kitchen gave up caring.The second worse restaurant I tried in Rome.

Those are all tourist places where the food is cheap and very expensive, the real Roman cuisine is not found there, it is found in the suburbs. Never eat in central Rome, even if most people who visit Rome don't know it

@@hks6288 Those far from the tourist routes are all good, without forgetting that Rome, together with Florence, is the city where you can eat the best in the world, therefore, it is impossible to make a list of names, the important thing is to have a smart eye and see how what the place looks like, which people frequent it, etc., this is something that all tourists should do.

This is completely false. While those are all well known restaurants on some tourist publications, Romans do eat at all of them and Roscioli in particular is considered to have amongst the best collection of products in the country.
