I accidentally got a male and a female and my parents were totally in denial until she had the baby. Knowing what I know now, a pet store's almost completely out of the question. Love the footage of the girls- the babies finally figured out the water bottle, and it's so cute that Willow and Lyra enjoy lap time so much.

They look so adorable - all those piggy lips nomming. Willow and Lyra at the beginning and end always make my day (as do you!). Thanks for these videos, always. They make me so happy.

Hey Sarah, So lovely to see how well-bonded the four of them are in a short time of all being together. Adorable popcorning in the hammock from Phoebe there and some very affectionate grooming of the babies! They are all so very sweet x A very useful and informative video too so thank you very much x :-)

My local pets at home sell and adopt out a variety of small animals, and I've been quite impressed by their knowledge. One employee once asked their in house vet a question for me! I adopted three piggies from them and they asked me so many questions before I was allowed to take them home

We got 2 of ours from regular people we found online. Our male we found at a big chain... Now, Murray (along with a female named Penelope we bought at the same place a year ago) doesn't wheek. He squeaks sometimes but never a big cute wheek, and Penelope (who sadly passed as a 3 month old) never would either. Rather odd.

I adopted my boy Jericho from the returned pets at pets at home (The first thing I asked is why is he on his own) He looked heart broken so I adopted him there and then. As he was on his own i wanted a friend so I contacted the rescue place(Stockton on tees). (They did free bonding sessions) unfortunately he wouldn't bong with other boys. I told him i was going to get him castrated and asked about a pair of girls, He told me the waiting list for a pair of girls was over a year. He could see that i was upset because I didn't want my boy on his own so he told me to message after the operation (As it is very dangerous for piggies) To let him know how it went so I did. About a week later he messaged me sayings he has two baby girls (Sisters) for me that would be out of quarantine around the same time as jerichos 6 weeks after castration was up. Well last weekend I took him to be bonded with them, and now I have 3 perfect piggies at home, and my boy is no longer lonely. Your videos have helped a lot. Thank you.

Hello Sarah, I would like to get a pair of Guinea-Pigs but I haven’t ever had Guinea pigs but I’ve had hamsters before and I have a cat , can you feed them a lot of things apart from fruits and vegetables and do they sleep at night or are they awake at night and sleep during the day
@SqueakDreams3 жыл бұрын
Hey there, guinea pigs make great pets!! Have a look at some of the videos on my channel for basic care advice, and I hope to have a summary video for brand new owners coming soon. The "How to Feed the Best and Healthiest Guinea Pig Diet" goes into detail but hay is the most important thing for them to eat, followed by a good quality guinea pig specific pellet, then a variety of fresh vegetables, herbs and/or forage and grass. Guinea pigs are diurnal so awake during the day, but usually most active in the morning and evening 😊

Hi, I have a question. One of our two guinea pig passed away lately, so one of my pigs is alone, and im planning on buying him new friend. So the question is if young neutred and older non-neutred (kind of dominant) males can live together? (im scared he would harass the baby :/)

Sarah I'm not really sure I agree about petshops being so bad, because the ones I know take care of them really well. There are a lot of laws now that petshops have to abide by with animal care and they would lose their licence if inspectors were not happy. Animals are cleaned out every day and have plenty of good nutritious food, but I think the problem is the source they get their animals from. We have no idea where they were bred, if the conditions there were good or bad, and if their parents were related. This is why it's more likely those animals may develop health problems later. Pet shop workers often go on special courses and should know their stuff, usually my one gripe is I feel rather angry at them supposing I know nothing, because they have completed their course in animal welfare. I've heard lots of horror stories, but there are good petshops and bad ones, so we should judge them wisely. You did actually say all that, so it was nice to hear positive petshop comments in a video on KZbin!
@SqueakDreams4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your your comment 😊 Yes laws and licensing are in place to support welfare in pet shops. However regulation by councils is not always implemented in full, and whilst certain members of staff must hold relevant qualifications, not all staff are required to have formal training. Then the quality and provision of in house training varies. It is true that health care issues may be more likely linked to the original breeder - but if pet shops do not become aware or are not concerned with this issue, they will continue to support these "bad" breeders by purchasing animals from them (and in turn so do the customers). I believe too that the process of pet shops and the stress put on piggies can make pigs more vulnerable to health conditions, even if enclosures etc are maintained and cleaned regularly. Like you say, everywhere varies and I am sure there are pet shops who meet best practice, hence why I encourage people to try and find out which are the good ones and which are not so good. ❤️
@annabee47853 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately most places don't have suitable laws AT ALL, and the petshops are supporting breeders that are *really* unregulated. Studies have shown that over half of all pet store guinea pigs have respiratory infections. At the end of the day, they're creating a demand for animals that are bred most often in terrible conditions when there are thousands of guinea pigs needing homes.

I own three cute girl piggies and I got them from the pet store. Now I know you shouldn’t get guinea pigs from pet stores but in my area I couldn’t find a rescue that have guinea pigs and there’s only pet store only. My parent doesn’t find it Necessary to drive 4-5 hours just to go to a rescue when we could just go to nearby pet stores so they wouldn’t let me go to rescues sadly but I’m happy with my piggies
