I bought a house here in the UK with my bf about 2 years ago. We managed to apply for a mortgage with Halifax despite me only being on a work visa. Also, we both opened Lifetime ISA accounts which helped us save up for our house deposit.

Help to buy is just a scheme to invite people to go into mortgage but within 2-5 years you have to pay the remaining 5%, whether it is a new or an old house it doesn’t matter as long as you are a key worker there is a scheme that you can apply for a 5% deposit , the best option is to sign a contract less than 25 or 30 years ,pay it quick then enjoy life but it depends on your wages as well .
