Italian Citizenship Assistance

Knowing where to buy a home in another country can feel like searching for a red jellybean in a 5 pound jar while being blindfolded. Let's take that blindfold off and start talking about different regions in Italy and what each of our hosts like about different areas of the country where each would buy a home in Italy. Buying a property in Italy is made easier when working with the team at Italian Real Estate Lawyers who can assist in helping you to determine what are the appropriate options for you. In this episode of the Italian Real Estate Podcast hosts Marco Permunian, an Italian attorney, along with video podcaster and dual citizen expat, Rafael Di Furia, known for his project Not Your Average Globetrotter (@RafaelDiFuria), continue their series on where to move in Italy.

Thanks so much for this episode! I got Italian citizenship a few years ago, and now I'm considering getting an investment property somewhere in Italy. I've traveled to so many parts of the country and love them all for different reasons. Thanks to this episode, I'm now able to zero-in on a more narrow area.

I'm American too. I find that if you speak good Italian, you can surround yourself with Italians. I've spent a few months in various parts of Sicily and rarely saw any Americans, but that might be because speaking Italian, I can "blend in".

My first choice was Rome. But decided to choose an area where the 7% flat tax applies. I visited Puglia twice looking to live there. I decided against it because if the trains. And wow has it changed over the last six years! Many, many more tourists. Also not easy to get around without a car. I love the beauty of the mountain villages in campania, but cannot live there. Then I visited Scalea in Calabria and fell in love. I know many believe Calabria is not an area to live. I did my research on the ground. It felt right. Three hours to Rome by high speed train, close to Salerno and fun and great food of Naples. It has all I need and want.

love your thinking outside of the box, great mind! I like many regions but necessarily would live there. Tuscany? very disappointed of the guy saying as first. It is "very famous" sentence right away raising red flags. I dont wanna live a very famous place, that is not for living. tuscan viliages are beautiful but infrastructure is a disaster. No transportation, no health care nearby or other services that you might need. You wanna drive 2 hours for a proper doctors appointment to florence or siena? 30min-1 hrs for every grocery shopping? Or if it is better located then it is already hyped too much. tuscany is such a cliche everyone already knows it and everything is priced in. Puglia is a better idea, but it is also coming up a lot and prices are already reflected in that. Also disconnected and less developed. Veneto / Lazio is a good idea. Veneto is a bit boring unless you live in Venice/garda or Verona which is crazy expensive (and again hyped too much). They are well connected. Lazio is even better coz there are wonderful places around rome, you dont need to live in the city but can get access to the capital and the services you might need. DEF.better idea than an overpriced isolated villa in tuscany that looks great in a hollywood movie, but it is far from everything. Difficult to maintain, cost a lot to maintain and very difficult to sell if you need the money. Yes i would go to well connected affordable regions like calabria, campania, lazio...

Fantastic advice as always. Interestingly, I'm an Australian and I've just invested in a small but totally charming home in Tuscany and I am also looking at small properties in Puglia, so I'm right on the same track with Marco in my choices. I'm so happy with my purchase and my village, although having a small expat community, seems to be, in majority, Northern Europeans, Scandinavians, British and now...2 Australian/Italian/British mixed up semi-retirees :D (I'm sure there will some Americans too but I haven't come across them yet. In general, my village is predominantly Italian and well inhabited all year round. It's not a major tourist destination, although equally as lovely, so that's what drew us there. Normal Tuscan village life :D

Any suggestions on how to get real estate agents to respond to home purchase info? They virtually never give out an address for the property - Tuscany is the worst.

Unfortunately there is a bit of a delay from the government we can’t really explain. As soon as the provisions needed to make this visa officially obtainable will come into effect we will be sure to make a video about it.

As an American, a large population of Americans might also be a reason _not_ to look in a particular area. Just saying. ;)

I agree with you. 😁 On the other hand, the good news is there are many, many places in Tuscany (let alone the entire nation) that haven’t been discovered by Americans-if that’s your preference.

Indeed! In fact I’m looking in a lovely region not mentioned in this video-not actually factoring in American presence per se, but it’s overall less “popular” than Tuscany. But I just had to get my snarky comment in. ;)

there is no large population of Americans ANYWHERE in Italy! You'd be lucky to bump into one outside of tourist areas! Italy is very strict about who lives there, and Americans are not allowed in unless you get citizenship, very difficult or manage to have patienceenough with their bureaucracy to actually complete purchase on a property.
