A tool that you should consider getting before you really need one is a "USB Snake Inspection Camera". They are only $20 and can be extremely helpful in tight spots to see what is going on.

Many have an app for phone or tablet. We have one and use it for inspecting hard to reach areas. Also we use my older Nikon digital camera or iPod on selfie stick to grab pictures in tight areas.

I have 1 that Milwaukee makes and uses the same battery pack as the rest of my cordless tools. I'd recommend a longer flexible 3 prong grabber as well if you need to grab a fallen screw or snaked wire in a tight spot.

You guys are such a breath of fresh air. Watching your videos is a great 20 minute escape from the real world. I love it! No negativity, no politics, just a humble couple showing us their life adventure and allowing us to be a small part of the journey. Thank you to all three of you (Cpt. Oso of course!) and cheers!

Hey guys, Great video. As someone who has done a lot of cableing & data a helpful hint. Whenever you have to make a major pull fore & aft always leave a pull string. With data and upgrades as fast as things change there will ultimately be an upgrade or better equipment somewhere in your future. Whenever you have super hard run and pull always pull in another string with new cable....... next time you won't have to fish it ever again. Just use your pull string and remember to pull another to leave behind for nextime! This simple rule will leave you happy and next time you have to "make a new run" fore & aft.... it won't be so daunting! OH YAH...... Remember, we left a pullstring; this won't be too bad! CHEERS!

Excited to see your Eastern Atlantic adventures. Azores, Portugal, Spain, Morocco, Canary Islands, Mauritania, Senegal (pink Lake Retba), Cape Verde Islands. I have heard some disparaging remarks about the boat you selected, the price you paid, and the work it needed. That being said, you have a sailing vessel with a great pedigree, in the layout that you love, and with all of the effort you have put into it, one that you can have confidence in to take you ANYWHERE. I am so happy to see you back in the water, and ready to head out. I wish you the very fairest of winds, and following seas as you head out again into the wild blue yonder!

I follow two cruising families because they are so similar, you two and Oso (I own three Borzoi) and Ran II who have a child and bought a Nijad 440 used then did their version of many of the things you are doing and are now cruising from a Swedish base. You may well know about them. You share a lot, two extremely well found used boats equipped for safety and distances or living, good common sense and excellent sailing and filming abilities. It is a joy I as a 25 year sailor with my own boat during that time truly enjoy. thank you and stay well.

Jordan and Desiree you are such an inspiration with your get it done work ethic !!! We are all amazed at the work you have accomplished since buying Atticus II and enjoy all the videos showing that work. The attention to detail of everything you have done is amazing and it will pay off in the long run as everything was done correct and you have learned so much about every system on the boat. This will be very helpful in the event you have a glitch far away from any port. I'm sure you have spares for certain things on board and when your next adventure begins you can go forward knowing Atticus II is up to the challenge and you can enjoy your time on board with very few problems. Thank you for your hard work and we await your next video ! Have a nice weekend

Osso is such a cutie, and the perfect size for a boat. Your sailing plan involves 2 big sails, but in between you can cruise slowly. Plus you are doing the crossings at the right season, and not trying to do too much by going into the Med. Save that for another time.
@AustinBoil

I can't quite tell how you will route your coax to the antennas but just a reminder it's a good idea to have a loop or half loop of coax at the the bottom of the antenna connector so water won't run down the coax into the area of the connector (you want water to drip off the bottom of the loop or half loop). Things are looking really nice, you have to be stoked to get away.

Future content idea... Would love to see a video on critical supplies for any type of crossing. This would include medical, do you go beyond the basic emergency medical kit? What if you need stitches or temporarily set a broken bone etc.. Also what type of backup equipment supplies regarding water system, the engine, electrical, communications, and especially life-saving emergency raft/communication stuff in case of a catastrophic event happens.

A tip to prevent chafing between the cables and the bulkhead holes... cut up a cheap bicycle innertube, install the rubber around the cable hole with a dab of silicon to hold in place. Now the cable only contacts rubber not glass.

Dear Jordan dear Desiree, I have been watching all your videos and I am always amazed. Cool to hear that you are planning to cross the Atlantic to Europe. However, you should not only visit the Azores, Canary Islands and Cape Verde, but also explore the Mediterranean. It is one of the most beautiful waters of Europe with nice people, good food, an historic culture and crystal clear water. It is very safe to travel there. At the latest at Christmas you should be on the Canary Islands and set sail for the Caribbean. So you still have time to explore the Caribbean before the hurricane season starts. Many greetings from Switzerland.

Jordan your on a high learning curve, excellent work. IMO any of your outside connections should be sealed with rubber tape. To install, stretch the tape when applying and the UV will mold it as into one piece. We use it for all antenna installs.

I don’t know how we managed to do anything before the internet and KZbin, you can learn to do just about anything by searching for it online, like wiring up GPS antennas. Seriously, the internet has changed the way we learn. Just imagine how you would have figured those wires out without it. Trial and error or you’d have to call a specialist. It just blows my mind the amount of knowledge that’s out there now at the tip of your fingers. You guys are so much fun to watch, it’s like hanging out with friends, makes me want to lend a hand and help you pull wires through…lol.

Jordan, for all practical purposes, Atlantic hurricane season really doesn't spool up until mid-June, moreso after August 1 when some insurance actuaries insist on Caribbean cruisers being south of 12-deg North (or else). Another Atlantic crossing you and Desiree might consider: Revisit the parts of Cape Cod you missed en route to Maine, this time with advance local knowledge >> Nantucket (beaucoup history here), Chatham (where the sharkbitten ballcap might be found, via Stage Harbor or Saquatucket Harbor), through Butler Hole around the south tip of Monomoy Island (NOAA Chart 13247), Provincetown, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Iceland, then decide on Azores, Canaries, etc. Why I suggest this: Going across the Gulf Stream can be as gnarly as sailing against it (e.g., Newport, RI to Bermuda). Going with the Gulf Stream makes for a faster trip between anchorages, and you already know the Roaring 40s in the summer. Blessings, S/V Windwalker

I fear you may have a problem with your main and the Strong Track. Since a Strong Track can flex a bit, the head of a main has been known to pull out of the Strong Track in a really, really big blow. At the recommendation of my sailmaker at UK Sails, I added two more slides at the head to be as sure as possible to keep the head attached to the mast in really big winds. This video suggests that you should have a sailmaker do the same on your main, as your slides at the head look insufficient. Losing the head of your main in a blow would be a nightmare. So be safe. It is cheap but wise money spent.
