Here’s a quick tip for those who do spiral wraps. Put your guides on like normal with them all on top using dental rubber bands. Put a reel on and thread your line through the guides. Grab the line with your opposite hand and pull down on it to flex the rod. The guides that need to will spin under the rod and you’ll get the exact line path the blank wants to take when under load on a spiral wrap. Adjust guide distance to even out load if necessary.

Hey I got a question about rod building I’m still learning a lot and asking how to spray paint rod blank! I go to a rod shop place that says to spray paint and then epoxy the whole rod and she showed me a few that she did. Now I’m wondering if you can make a video on this to just lock my understanding of this in. Please and thank you 🙏

kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIGUqaStrtalfas This 3 part rehab of an old rod goes into spray painting and epoxy covering an old rod.

Is that blank wrapped with thread top to bottom? Can’t imagine using epoxy to cover paint other than small sections. The whole rod?? The stuff you want is permagloss from rodbond. Goes on light, doesn’t yellow and is tougher than epoxy.

Good evening. I have. When looking for a way to send a message outside of a comment but I can’t find it. I have a question about wrapping rods. I am just finishing up the video about how to create chevrons and I am curious if you can twist threads together to make a different pattern and look. I am just getting into rod building and your videos have been a tremendous help. Thank you, keep the great work going. Jeff

You can always email me at fdxcustomrods@gmail.com. I've never tried twisting threads together, but it sounds like it would work. Thanks Jeff.

Hi !! The guids from fuji I received have already the guides layout

Those are inaccurate. The blank determines the spacing not the guides.

Fantastic advice Lee!!! Same length, power, action and manufacture rods all vary. Some blanks can and often do have 1, 2, or 3 spines. I have used Baston’s guide layout templates and also CRB guide layouts. I almost always start with the CRB guide layout, they have it broken down from spinning to casting and from standard to elite/performance in each category. I only build on a performance layout no matter which type of build. I almost never have to move guides in my static load testing because these layouts are so dialed in, but I still load test EVERY build.
