I adore Agatha Christie, have read most of her novels and am now listening to the audiobook versions on my commute - though I do tend to skip the Tommy and Tuppence ones, I don't find them as entertaining. I love seeing the social changes reflected in her novels over the years, and her poking fun at herself and the mystery genre.

+RobNika Ipad I'm really enjoying that part of reading them chronologically now too. I can actually see that shift in her writing. Tommy and Tuppence aren't my favourites, but I have really enjoyed those that I've read. I have heard mixed things about the later Tommy and Tuppence titles though, which I haven't yet read, so am interested to see how I go with those ones.

Loved you video! This year was my 'year of Marple' where I picked up a Miss Marple a month. Only have The Sleeping Murder and her Final Cases short story collection left, but it has been wonderful. Enjoyed Christie's writing so much (only one or two stories I didn't give a 4+ ★ to!). Next year I'm having a month of Tommy & Tuppence, plus reading some of her stand alones as well - and perhaps in 2018 I'll tackle Poirot ;-D

+Tundra Blue thank you! A year of Marple sounds like fun ☺️ I absolutely love Sleeping Murder. So in my opinion you've got the best to come! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. She really is such a wonderful writer. I had to stop myself knee jerk giving everything by her 5 stars 😂 Have you read any Tommy & Tuppence or Poirot before, or will you be reading them for the first time?

I've seen most of the adaptations over the years, but this will be the first time I've read the source material ;-D

I love watching your Agatha Christie videos! I was inspired by you to read her works chronologically (though I'm cheating a bit because I've read And Then there were None and Miss Marple earlier ^^).

Thank you so much! Don't worry, I had definitely read LOTS of books out of order before starting reading them chronologically too :)

The only one I've read is And Then There Were None, I actually somehow managed to not read the last chapter and was so mad at it for months because I thought it was open ended XD

I have couple of these (ones that you showed) bought from seconhand shops. I wonder what your favorites are..looking forward to that video! I have hard time remembering the names of the books...which name goes with which story :D I usually have to read about 15-20 pages at the library shelf before I take one just to make sure I haven't read it yet..and still I have sometimes taken a book I already have read :D So I guess it would have been a good idea to read them in some sort of order. When I was a school girl I just grabbed the one or two of the ones that were available in the library and that sounded most appealing.

+Peony thank you! Hopefully I will get that one edited and up soon ☺️ I know what you mean about losing track of which story goes with which title... I used to have them all straight, but I've read too many of them now and it all starts to blur 😕 I guess that's a good thing as you can experience the story again without remembering the whodunnit? 😂
@sumikatti8 жыл бұрын
Yes..and the problem is that I have read these both in Finnish and English, and the titles are often different (not direct translation of the English title). And I do forget the solutions too - that makes watching filmations of Poirot and Miss Marple exciting! LOL
@ListObsessedReader8 жыл бұрын
Peony Ooh that does make it even more complicated! I find it interesting enough that the UK and US titles vary so much, let alone from language to language!

Wasn’t a fan of reading books until I played one of those detective riddles on KZbin the guy mentioned Agatha Christie and I had never heard of her. When I was studying in a library I saw a murder on the orient express on the shelf and saw it was by Agatha and decided to try acc reading something Ended up not doing any studying and became a fan

I have a rather odd question. Do the spine of the book bend when you open it? I know there are certain paperbacks that when you open them, their spines don't bend. I hate it when the book has creases on their spines. I'm actually planning to buy a paperback, because I honestly dislike hardcovers because they're heavy. Thanks!

Brilliant video! My first Christie technically was a few of the Marple short stories but my first novel was Mysterious Affair at Styles 😃 Have you listened and/or heard about Dan Stevens' narration of And Then There Were None? I listened to it last December when I was reading it for the first time and he does a great job and his voice is lovely (which I already knew based on Downton Abbey lol). I highly recommend it 😃 I think Ordeal By Innocence is one I have (I need to double check when I get home) any interest in a buddy read? (i know I kinda bailed on the last one, sorry 😞).
@ListObsessedReader8 жыл бұрын
+BBCgirl520 thank youu!! ☺️ did you make the decision to pick up The Mysterious Affair at Styles as your first novel because it was her first? Or did it just turn out that way? And yes! I haven't listened to it, but I do own the Dan Stevens And Then There Were None via Audible. One day when I'm finally finished my chronological readthrough and can reread her again I will be definitely listening to this one. He also narrated Casino Royale which was amazing. It's hard reconciling James Bond with Matthew Crawley, but boy does it work 😜 I would definitely be up for a buddy read. The only thing is I don't know when I will be getting to it... As I said, I've got to read quite a few others before I get to this one. But if you can deal with that I can definitely let you know when I'm getting closer. And don't worry, I was pretty flaky on that buddy read too!! ☺️
@CarolynsReadingRamblings8 жыл бұрын
ListObsessedReader I actually picked it because it was Poirot's first novel but I did think it was a cool bonus that I was starting right from the beginning with her too 😃 I am hoping to get to Murder of Roger Ackroyd this month 😃 and no worries about when we read ordeal, I am flexible and I still have to double check that I have it when I get home lol

ListObsessedReader also I am rewatching your AC bookshelf tour and am curious which ones leading up to Ordeal you still need to read?

BBCgirl520 I'm currently on A Pocket Full of Rye, so I've got that, then Destination Unknown, Hickory Dickory Dock, Dead Man's Folly and 4.50 From Paddington before Ordeal By Innocence. I've really been looking forward to rereading Dead Man's Folly and 4.50 From Paddington, so it's ridiculous that I've gotten this far behind!! I should fly through those two. :)
@CarolynsReadingRamblings8 жыл бұрын
ListObsessedReader awesome! I love the Geraldine McEwan adaptation of 4.50 from Paddington. I love the station name cuz I always think of Paddington Bear and all her mysteries that revolve around train travel are definitely in my favorite adaptations list so they are some that I am most excited to read 😃

I'm so glad I started with And Then There Were None, although I'm worried that everything else will pale in comparison haha! I might try some Tommy & Tuppence next, they sound really interesting?
@ListObsessedReader8 жыл бұрын
I haven't come across anything else quite like it in her works... But there are definitely others that I adore! Tommy & Tuppence are fun if you like a bit of adventure! Even though I said you don't need to read her chronologically I'd recommend starting at the beginning with them - so The Secret Adversary - mainly because it follows them at different stages of their lives, so you do get a logical progression with the characters, even if the mysteries aren't spoiled by the others. :)
