Pre-video thoughts: I am thinking he would be a fellow Hufflepuff. He is loyal in a weird way. He is loyal to those he feels a connection to (his parents, friends/gang, and eventually Harry). His loyalty and trust of Harry (and thus his willingness to go with two strangers from The Order) shows that although he cannot give them the ole one two, he is doing what he can to help Harry. My guess after listening to the intro: Hufflepuff. Assuming he still hates magic he probably won't want to be in the magic bloodline focused Slytherin, he might have the potential for Gryffindor, but considering how he mellowed out towards harry near the end I think he might be a more accepting person than his upbringing initially allowed him to be, and Hufflepuff could help bring that out of him.

Okay so here's the thing about Crabbe and Goyle getting into Slytherin. They are ambitious. They want to put their muscle to work under the biggest name they can. They know they're thicker than Percy's preferred cauldron's bottom, they know they're lot in life is gruntwork under someone elses plans. But they want to be under the biggest bully in the playground. Just look at book seven. 'We don't work for you no more Draco'. They weren't his friends... they were his lackey's. They put up with him because he had status. Then they got the chance to be under a bigger dog in Lord Voldemort and said 'Well yep. We'll take that.'. They are very ambitious and powerhungry, and value status highly. I can't really see them anywhere else.

I think Dudley would have been essentially a blend of Malfoy and Crabbe/Goyle. A beautiful blend of ambition and muscle. The hard work he eventually learned to put into boxing was more a result of his inherent desire to be the baddest bully in town. Because it was a means to an end rather than a true value I don't think the Sorting Hat would have used it to justify putting him in Hufflepuff, even _if_ it could see that eventuality.

I'd have to disagree on Neville being a good example of someone sorted based on value. I'd say Peter Petigrew is a good example of that. But Neville was very brave from the first book already. Standing up to his sorting bullies during the Quidditch match, as well as standing up to the trio for which he even receives house points because it takes even more bravery to face your friends than to face your enemies. In other words Neville was already brave, even if also scared and shy.

I agree. I think a lot of people misconstrue lack of bravery/weakness and lack of confidence. Neville had a severe lack of confidence, which shouldn't be confused with lack of bravery. The two are completely different. Some of the most unconfident people on earth are also the bravest. And visa versa - there are a lot of people who are confident, yet exceptionally wimpy. Confident people rarely need to practice bravery, whereas unconfident people practice it every day.

Card from Dudley.” “Alert the media,” he muttered as he hung another string of lights. “There’s a note. For you.” She held out a folded bit of white paper. Harry took it, curious. Pushing his glasses up, he quickly scanned the note. “Petunia will flip if this is true,” Harry mused. Ginny read over his shoulder. The words seemed to have struggled to get onto the paper, stiff and hesitant. 📜 *Harry - Happy Christmas. How are you? I am fine. Hope you are, too. Remember when we were little and went to the zoo for my birthday? That snake got loose. And the time Aunt Marge visited and got sick and swelled up? Well, things like that are sort of happening here with my kids. Not as big a deal as when you were around. It was just a book that Patrick floated across the room. And Violet changed the color of her jumper. No big deal. But I got to wondering. Could you tell if someone might need to be at that school of yours? Maybe you could stop by and see? Thanks. Yeah there was some definite character assassination happening here In the scene where Harry asked if he beat up a 10 year old. Firstly Harry propose the question as a hypothetical "how old was your aponent, ten?" Clearly only asked to make fun of Dudley, just a random insult. But in the movie he says "beat up another 10 year old?" Implying that they sing Dudley is known for doing and have done it before. Then there's Dudley's reaction to this question in both mediums. "He was 16." Which indicates that not only was he not picking on a child but actually defeating an older person successfully, a clear point of pride and celebrating his accomplishment while simultaneously proving Harry's assessment incorrect. While in the movie he just says, "This one deserved it." One-hundred-percent confirming that Harry is correct. In the books we never actually gone 20 indication that he picked on any children other than Harry, other than Harry's assumptions, which could be faithless given that they don't spend much time together and Harry may not be a reliable narrator in this case. His hardworking wouldn't land him immediately into hufflepuff. Draco is also incredibly hard working whether it's in class where he is second only to hermione, or in quidditch, or even his work for Voldemort. He took a cabinet that was completely useless and made it work perfectly. But both Dudley and Draco use their hard work to benefit themselves, so that they can boast about it. Not very Hufflepuff. And Draco himself comes around and saves Harry by not identifying him. The only reason Draco even shows up in the room of requirement is to get his wand back. The major difference is that Hufflepuff values hard work for the sake of honesty. Dudley does not.

Well, you can guess a lot. For example he was brutally bullied in his early school years. It's clear from the books and movies. His parents loved him and took care of him, yet he went through some horrible mental torment by the dementors, so he must have had some incredible painful memories. He surrounds himself by groups of friends and gains much more confidence after gaining physical strength and learning how to fight. He uses violence against others at school to assert dominance more in later books, but we see he is less and less abusive towards Harry and his parents at that same time. That shows he uses violence not to have fun, but to solve a problem. He uses less and less violence at home and more and more at school. This is typical behavior of people who were bullied, abused and decided to solve their problems by retaliating, by fighting bullies using strength of body and strength of numbers. His friends tend to like him and are willing to fight alongside him. His parents seem like useless in solving bullying problems at school, so he either didn't tell them or they didn't help. Also with solving his problem of being bullied, he had less need to vent his frustration on Harry or his parents and became much more balanced person.

Without Harry there as a reminder, Vernon and Petunia's rage faded, and they ended up telling Dudley stories of how his aunt and uncle bravely stood up to and stopped a super terrorist at the cost of their lives. This ended up with Dudley ambitiously wanting to become a policeman and protect others to honor them, even if he was going about it through underhanded means. The sorting hat saw his equal fitness for Gryffindor and Slytherin and took the third, valid option of Hufflepuff for his loyalty to his aunt and uncle's ideal. Before watching this video literally on an ad before the video my prediction is either between Hufflepuff or Slytherin? Why? Well for one Dudley Dursley is described as “He is Harry's horrible, non-magical and slightly older cousin. He is blond, hates exercise and bullies Harry whenever he can, including at school where Dudley has a gang that he gets to pick on his own cousin.” His unpleasant and spoiled child. Then again Dudley isn’t brave, he isn’t smart, he later became nice but he always wasn’t, and he wasn’t cunning (from what I’ve seen) okay maybe he was I don’t entirely remember right now.

Parts of this reminded me of a Designing for Kindness analysis of the character King Dedede. He's pampered and has been a bully, even to those smaller than he. He trains himself up for fighting. Eventually he turns around and begins showing kindness, taking actions to help Kirby or his subjects. He becomes fond of Kirby and has his own way of showing it. It seems like Dudley has this in common.

Hufflepuffs are loyal and hardworking.
@katholmes7112 Жыл бұрын
In the beginning though when the Founders chose traits that mattered, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Gryffindor each showed a bias to what was acceptable for their house. Helga said fine, I'll take the rest. Hard work and loyalty were not required. But her house students saw her loyalty to them so they showed loyalty to her and a willingness in her name to work hard. However, neither trait is required because Hufflepuff takes them all no matter what. She, and her house, doesn't make demands of what qualities the students should have. You can put his boxing into hard work, but even if he had no passions Hufflepuff would accept him where the other houses would say no.

I said it before and I will say it again - all the 3 Dursleys belong to Hufflepuff. Their main character trait is loyalty (to the family and to their social class. Vernon is a hard working man who only takes pride in it, in his achievements that secure his family can keep living as they do. No pub, no hobbies outside the house, he spends his life with the family. Even though he has good social skills, apparently, as his job requires them and he is good at it. Petunia is a housewife who loves her husband and son above all. Their ambitions are nothing more than keeping their place in the society, being seen as the perfect, ideal family of their lower-middle class. They do have some bravery and some ambition, but only when it comes to the safety and security of the family. It comes from loyalty. Dudley... He mostly lacks bravery and ambition, as his parents he lacks out-of-the-box thinking, but he has no problem finding and keeping friends and you can't be good at a sport if you don't work hard. So yes, Hufflepuff for all of them.

That's the thing I don't think they can Eufy another channel Harry Potter folklore already did this a few years ago. It's different from other popular theory that they taken and touch their own ideas on to that channel did a full 7-part series covering each book, making it more specific and personal to that creator, rather than a commonly-held fandom theory. Princeton a lot of people may have their own name is a vampire theory, it's more of a widely accepted theory that everybody just kind of knows about and lots of a personal theory, but not everyone has done a 7 video deep dive theory series on a specific and highly detailed theory like this, not like this video where they just do a common question that anybody could have asked and take have their own take on it but a full seven episode furious would involve a lot of complicated detail and three tracing

@anvos658 Жыл бұрын
Well up until the owls start delivering two invites to Hogwarts nothing would change, as I'd see Petunia self deluded enough to miss or rationalize any accidental magic Dudley does, and seeing Dudley's name on half the letters would probably just make Vernon and Petunia even more into trying to ignore the letters. Afterwards this probably does change things, though I don't see Hagrid taking Dudley as he'd just fall under whatever school/ministry program handles muggleborn mages. Year two and three this definitely changes things, since Petunia would believe Dudley about a weird magical creature stalking Harry and year three even if the incident still happens there is no way Petunia or Vernon are letting Harry run away if Dudley could get in trouble. The Dursley's probably are better to Harry year 1 summer break and onward, mostly just seeing treating Harry better as a means to have him protect Dudley.

The impression I got was that basically once a scapegoat had been found and the deaths seemed to stop, the authorities just went with Hagrid and the spider as the culprit and didn't look anywhere else or really consider the evidence. To support this theory: Crabbe and Goyle became very ambitious once Draco left. They valued his clever plans because they didn'thave their own and once the need for brains and cleverness were gone they didn't listen to him any more. Also Hermione isn't in Ravenclaw even though she is super smart and seems to value knowledge. She says in book 1 "books and cleverness? There are more important things." (Thats the movie quote) And Dudley is loyal to his friends and family. Which you can see as after the dementor attack he finally sees Harry as family which is when he starts his journey to kindness.
