Here's my video throwing in my two cents on quiet luxury which is such a trending topic for NOW. You know it will be over in five minutes but I wanted to address stealth wealth and what is quiet luxury to me. I also share the one thing I bought from the H&M Mugler collection. It's the only thing that I wanted and that's what I ended up getting. I hope you get outfit ideas as always. Also the ballet flat trend is huge but I got a pair of pointy ballet flats. Check my IG to see how to style ballet flats on my reels tab.

My thought on quiet luxury is that I have none. They can wear what they want and I’m gonna do me! Anybody who needs to judge someone on how rich or poor their outfit looks isn’t someone I need to be friends with! I just want my friends to feel good however they choose to dress because I love them more than their social status

Quite luxury is a trend made by the fashion industry. It's about 10 years that logos were on trend, and now that everyone has enough loud clothes, the industry wants us to believe they're old fashioned so we replace them. The same has happened in the 90s and 00s

Karen you are going to manifest meeting Lenny Kravitz one day soon. Remember how you use to talk about wanting to meet him. You gave off that vibe at the Balmain event and it was so you and very cool. As for luxury... having the time, and money to do the very best for yourself without needing anyone else to make it happen is a luxury. Do you and be true!

Concur on your thoughts on quiet luxury. I've seen multiple takes on it that tout the "if you know, you know" exclusivity of it all. I'm just not down for that criteria of "style." I certainly appreciate quality and things that last (secondhand, FTW), but style has nothing to do with how much something costs or the brand it is. Thank you for sharing your quick take, as it added a new layer to my perspective.

Your comments on quiet luxury and it’s subtext of racism was thought provoking. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Your videos are the antidote to all the neutral and beige or baby pink head to toe yawn videos where the influencer share the same looks over and over and over. I don’t dig all of your looks but mostly love them. That second black look was so breathtaking. It felt like a black Barbie moment! Or maybe I was influenced by the Barbie movie trailer that ran right before your video!

You would never define me as part of the elite and I have been wearing "quiet luxury" my whole life. Probably because I'm from the NorthEast and have been buying the same brands forever. That doesn't stop me from experimenting with trends. I do try to limit buying fast fashion, only because I don't have your budget for clothes and have to be thoughtful about what I add to my wardrobe. And my coloring and body type is a big determinant for what I feel looks good on me. I love street fashion and saturated colors but I disappear when I try to carry them off. Bottom line - stay within your budget and find out what makes the women wear the clothes not the clothes wearing the woman. Trendsetters are trying to manipulate perception. But you need to ask yourself how you want to present yourself. Be authentic. And if neutral, classic and basic suits you then go for it. When this "quiet luxury " trend is well over I'll still be wearing my 40-year-old sweaters. And the younger ones will be buying my cast-offs in vintage stores.

You’re adorable. Thank you so much for this post. I can’t believe how well you have put together so many videos for so long. You are exploring, so many topics I am obsessed with. Quiet luxury is just a trend combined with old money annoyed that middle class are dressing beautifully and confidently unique and don't give a damn about wearing all one color -Boring! or rhapsodizing about super old or deceased movie stars stale wardrobes. Women who are confident tend to offend and bring out the jealousy of women/ men who wear the same old same old. Now we wear what we feel like and ohmygosh actually mix H&M with certain designers, while the upturned noses all look the bloody same. Anywho! You are fabulous Karen! That was my first thought was to run the piece through the epaulet. It seems to work fine that way. As for all of the quiet luxury talk that one hears these days, some of it just needs to be quiet. LOL! And as far as race/ethnicity and luxury, if one looks at various cultures throughout the world and if people are either wearing or styling clothing in what's traditional in their own particular cultural concepts, then a lot of clothing would not be considered as quiet, but it is interesting, beautiful, and many times very luxurious. I've been buying Vlisco African batik fabric and other batik fabric for many decades and I take it to my Bangkok dressmaker of more than two decades and have it transformed into Asian styles like Cheongsom dresses, Japanese Yukata styles, and other styles. There are a lot of luxury looks in S.E. Asia and South Asia and a lot of them are not what folks are talking about these days as quiet luxury. And in Southeast Asia and South Asia, there can be a lot of bling worn with both formal and non-formal wear. And throw in West Africa as I've been to Ghana, the Gold Coast, a couple times and also a couple countries in North Africa. There's a lot of gold bling in Ghana. West Africans look great in their luxury styling concepts. It's not all about Western logos. A lot of time, people style clothing to their cultural heritage concepts. One of the best cultural luxurious looks, as far as I'm concerned, is when an African artist and Japanese designer got together and produced beautifully culturally-blended kimonos. Check out the 2017 article at the next sharp dot com website that's titled, "African Artist & Japanese Designer Create Stunning Kimonos by Mixing Cultures". I've been mixing cultures for decades in both luxury and non-luxury wear. And when going to Japan, I pack my regular traditional more formal style Japanese Yukata. I'm African American. But, I wear my Yukata in different situations in Japan, even to breakfast at my hotel at times. I just get up an hour early to start putting it on and fixing the obi properly and tying the bow. I absolutely love yukatas and kimonos and they are a stunning art form. I also wear my yukata as formal wear as I selected one that can be worn either formally or informally. I had the sales women in Daimaru department store in Kyoto help me out even though we didn't speak each other's language. But, I got what I wanted and they tied me up in it and then applauded. This was back in 2017 when I decided to invest in my own Yukata. I don't plan to keep, "quiet" anytime soon. LOL! Greetings from Los Angeles

@@KarenBritChick True. People from other cultures can also translate their own cultural concepts into Western clothing and styling. So, some might wear bright colors, contrasting patterns, more jewelry bling, more logos of different types, etc. It's their concept of styling and expressing themselves. And thank goodness everyone is not only in subdued colors and capsule wardrobes. There's choice out there for us all. Greetings from Los Angeles

I loved watching…and I love the bulky jacket! The shoulders and color are such a vibe…I agree with you on the quiet luxury topic. I loved the notes you put up on the screen…just so real. Quiet luxury is nothing to talk about…but it’s worth acknowledging in order to point out how ridiculous it sounds because style is spirit…and shouldn’t be boxed in. A look is a look…either you got it or you don’t baby…no amount of expensive “quiet” pieces can save you if you don’t know how to dress for yourself.❤Don’t get me started…😂…I love your work Karen! Hey There KBC - Just thinking about this so-called "Quiet Luxury" which I think is ridiculous . Wouldn't it be a sad thing if this "trend" is some kind of a marketing campaign to push consumers to buy the quiet luxury - get rid of the "Branded LV , Chanel , Fendi Etc. perhaps because these companies are questioning the cost of self-branded items which yes may be costly to manufacture but isn't that the one thing that makes these items iconic. Who knows and yes it may be a silly thought but who knows... stranger things... Be Proud Wear Proud I say ..... Bravo to you for being honest and open about it.

What is quiet luxury? Isn’t it about understatement? If so, I’m actually slightly pleased about the quiet luxury trend, because brand logos, and true luxury items should remain as they are, luxury, I.e., not everyone should be wearing them so that they are not special anymore. I know it sounds incredibly elitist, but that’s how special things should be, they are special because better materials went into them, more work went into them, more design thought went into them, and therefore they should feel rare and precious. This is just my opinion, but everyone should continue to do what works for them and makes them happy.

Totally agree with you on the trends convo 💯 wear whatever the eff you want. Unfortunately people these days like to impinge their views & expectations onto others & judge them accordingly. I enjoy a wide range of style options, enjoy thrifting, designer & have my own set of ethics on fashion however I would never impose this onto others. I couldn't care less if people shopped fast fashion, sustainable, luxury, 2nd hand the same way I couldn't care less if someone is Christian or atheist. Love your honesty as always Karen. I think what you refer to as ‘quiet luxury’, becomes popular during times of financial distress, and the logos are abundant during times of financial optimism. I saw this first time round during the early 2000s, it was all about logo mania, and this has come back in the last few years but recently with the inflation and cost of living crisis, most people have had to cut back in one way or another. And fashion reflects that, Some of those who can afford luxury fashion become more self-conscious of flaunting their wealth, hence, quiet luxury.

Shocking to see orchids in a rubbish bin. Maybe a woman threw them in there after a quarrel with the boyfriend/husband, but I think it would have been better to gift them to someone else instead of binning them! And I really did enjoy the 'bits and pieces' style of this vlog! No apologies needed and do consider making more vlogs like this, even if you are not short of time. It was fun! I am 100% certain that I am not the only one who enjoyed this format! The quiet luxury thing is now boring me to tears. I have always favoured quiet luxury, but I don't try to foist my pesonal taste onto others! I have decided to wear a neon orange bag to the shops tomorrow just to turn my nose up at the trend! Definitely dye it black! Such a good idea. Monroe has it in red, but in black it would be awesome

I rarely wear logos and prioritise high quality materials and flawless execution. That's what I appreciate about the "quiet luxury" mindset. I'm minimal in black and/or navy most of the time, but not necessarily discreet. I appreciate colours and flamboyance on others though - our world would be more boring if everyone wore stoic chic. The toned down snobs also need the tacky crowd to sneer at, because they define themselves as the polar opposite. 🙃

Wallis sold coats like yours in the 70s/early 80s designed by Sylvia Alton... Sylvia had worked previously with Zandra Rhodes.. Sylvia was ahead of her time and her outerwear is legendary. Only the finest fabrics were used, wool, cashmere, silk mixes and linens.

Buy the red top again and dye one black. Would it be too much to add your flare belt with the red top? Oh yes, so you Karen with the leather green trench part swooping across. ❤

Great vlog! I love your attitude about luxury is what you want it to be. Why should anyone dare denigrate someone who loves wearing any particular style? I think the fun of dressing is finding what makes you happy. As for the red Zara bustier. Buy a second one and dye it black. It's a nice piece either color. Love you in the dreds too by the way.

The point of quiet luxury is that we have been doing it quietly for years. The current noise hopefully will quieten down soon.

I agree with you Karen that this “talking” about it is a trend. Being that I might be one of your oldest viewers @60, this whole notion about “quiet luxury” as a discussion is crazy. If we go back to my grandparents pics from 40’s and 50’s black or white everyone dressed in what my grandmother termed “understated elegance” which back then meant ladies in dresses when they were out in public and a nice leather handbag. Men in suits with a hat. Being that was and still is my inspiration growing up that’s how I dress, (more casual now but not many logos or small almost unseen logos on my clothes or bags) so when someone said to me “oh you’re a “quiet luxury person” I laughed and told them NO, this is just my preferred style of dressing. I have no prejudice or judgement toward people who like to wear their logos head to toe. I even think it looks fun against my boring minimal outfits, just not my style. My mom even said in 70’s wearing what we now call boho or Rock style were automatically seen as the marijuana, nature lover, anti-establishment, Woodstock . Well we know that’s not true now, nor was true then, it was just a preference of style. Hopefully this blows over soon, sounds like another way people are using to cause division.
