Glad to see more and more videos about 13A. This is my favorite game.

When I first got into rpgs 13th age had just been published or recently published and I was initially intimidated, as I was with almost everything D&D related, as big sets of rules felt very overwhelming to someone brand new to concept. Instead, I found a little weird west rpg that Pelgrane Press produced called, Owl Hoot Trail, which was in part based off of micro20 - ie 3rd edition. One quick read later, instantly what seemed very complicated to understand synched in my head and the following night I was GMing for my family and we got hooked. Needless to say, almost all of Pelgrane Presses products on my shelf have felt superior in comparison to my D&D products- I now own quite a bit of both. For sure, Phandelver is a great entryway adventure for new GMs/Players to play, however, Shadows of Eldolan, from 13th age I think is a pretty worthy contender for 1st time adventure. Perhaps a 5e comparison would be Dragon Heist? because both are set in a city and don't have to follow the usual fantasy linear plot of a hack and slash, but SoE is fewer pages and once a GM just gets into it, you begin to realize you really can craft the story/city how you want and the plot of you're in basically Hogwarts the City where the party will act basically like victorian style detectives (hence the plotline on "lamplighters") moving around at night walking through dark allys, all while body-snatching and re-animator zombies could pop up anywhere (which if the DM wanted to, perhaps could sprinkle in some horror/suspense into the mix, too). The point here is that this introductory adventure is going to offer a lot of new things to an adventure and it is presented in a way that is very easy to digest for new players/GMs- when I ran it, I only spent one hour to prep it and then we just went with the flow. And this is perhaps my compliment on almost every game product produced by Pelgrane, their adventure presentation skills. I have many games now by them and they know how to edit and present story for GMs. Even if the story is bigger, their presentation style takes away a lot of hesitation that I might have if I were try something as big with a different game- I have a few of the 5e adventure tome stuff but it just seems so much to learn and read to "have fun", what is more, in my opinion, as a game, 5e's is just okay (again my opinion, if I had come from a big D&D background growing up with a lot of memories w friends, I think my opinion would be different, but not having that is just my impression, not to say the game is bad), however, because my family also doesn't have a big ttrpg I have found more often or not that when we now do our traditional once a year multi-night game, they tend to get into the stories more than they do with stories from other games (another highlight game table experience was Invasive Procedures from Fear Itself) and again because they want me to GM them I appreciate how the story is organized,, presentation, format, heck how things look aesthetically, just overall Pelgranes stories in multiple games are worth looking into and they're presentation skills and writing skills, in my opinion, take away some anxiety that might be there for newer GMs.

Thank you, I was recently looking at this game, and this was useful in telling me what to look out for, and what to look forward to as far as how the books work.

Question: Can you get all the books hardcover?
@polyhedron3386 Жыл бұрын
Most of them yeah, I have the core book, both bestiaries, book of demons and book of loot (last two are soft cover) in physical editions.
@polyhedron3386 Жыл бұрын
The smaller books like (Book of demons, of loot, etc.) they do softcover to cut costs which I appreciate, because these are high quality content, useful books that you can get for like $15-$20.

Haha yeah it’s me. After COVID it became really hard for me to sit and watch a show for hours, just couldn’t do it anymore and I didn’t want to force it for the channel. I hope to be able to get back to it at some point.
