Which 21 key kalimba is better? LINGTING vs HLURU kalimba with sound comparison

Ling Ting 17 & 21 key as well as Seeds 34 key Kalimbas are my absolute favorites. However, that said, the sharp corners on the LingTing K21 were really bothering me. I bought a Hluru 21 key thinking that would be better on my hands, which it was, but I did not like the sounds of the tines as much as the LingTing so I returned it. Now what, I thought? Light bulb moment! I took some 220 grit sandpaper and sanded off the sharp edges on my Ling Ting 21(the 17 key corners don't bother me), then rubbed it with a good quality wood oil. Oh my gosh! That made all the difference in the world to my hands! It feels like silk in my hands, and sounds like heaven to my ears. Thought I would share this tip here in hopes of saving another Ling Ting user from setting aside this heavenly instrument like I had done. Blessing to you all. =)

For some reason I absolutely love the sound of the LingTing kalimba! When I hear it, I hear that it has more of a deepness to the sound. That is my total preference! Thank you Robin for showing people how both differ from each other by sound! ❤😊

Definitely tines with engravings lose in quality but better for beginners. And indeed professionals and even experienced amateurs will memorize it and will never try to look for numbers or letters. Even for beginners, it is easier to use 5-painted system instead of letters and numbers. Will you label your fingers from 1 to 5? LOL ;) Plus, I may need to use different tuning, middle-eastern for example. And I don't need engravings. Some people even complain that engravings are unpleasant to the touch.

Thank you for this Momma Robin! My own takeaway is this. Your Hluru is somewhat like the Gibson electric guitars... has a manly tone, precise, and a little rigid sounding. The LingTing is similar to the Fenders... ringing with bell-like sounds, relaxed and dreamy. I like both, but if I were to choose...I'd go with relaxed and dreamy most of the time.

From what I can hear, the HLURU sounds deeper. I've seen you using the LINGTING a lot. It is, as you know, a personal thing. I am more and more convinced that I like . . . the HLURU, ESPECIALLY the hollow sound. You are a patient teacher and inspiration. THANKS Ms Robin. Thanks for this comparison, Robin! They are both truly lovely, yet, I continue to gravitate to the LingTing. Hluru's bottom-note overtunes weren't as prominent in this recording, so it did sound better to my ears. Does anyone make a hollow box 21-key kalimba? Thanks again, dear Robin.

I'm seeing a lot of people choosing Lingting! Hmm... This video was just in time. My birthday is coming up in August, and so far I have 2 kalimbas on my wishlist (originally I had 3, but I couldn't stop myself so I bought one of them hahah) A 17Key Lingting and the 21Key Hluru. I think I'm gonna go with the Hluru for my first 21key... I'd rather own a 17key Lingting than a 21key Lingting, so it makes sense for me to potentially own a 17key Lingting and a 21key Hluru rather than two kalimbas from the same brand xD Also, I've heard that the edges of Lingting kalimbas are very sharp. The Hluru ones look more rounded, so I'm definitely gonna go with a Hluru 21key considering they seem to be wider than the 17key ones
