I have a small kalimba. It’s the Gecko mini kalimba with 8 notes. And it’s also pocket sized. I love it. I love to improvise on it, use it as a hand fidget. I recently used it while I was getting a shot. Such a great campanion and an awesome coping tool to have.

I love HLURU the most, for the sound and the shape.

I use the numbers to indicate a place in a scale, and I wishes that the manufactureres would do the same. So if you have a 17key its just fine. 1 is in the middle no matter the scale. But if you have a 21key, alot of manufactures they place 4 in the middle, and still uses the C scale. They should use the F scale, so that 1 is still in the middle.. 1 should always be in the middle... It makes it hard to change between kalimbas when the layout on a 21 key is different from the 17key. Only lingting understand this 😅

My kalimba didn't come with a hammer and when I tried to tune it I screwed up my keys they sound weird now. :(

Hello, I think your KZbin channel is great, the best I have ever come across about kalimbas. You explain everything very clearly. I have been playing kalimbas for 3 months now and have bought 6 in the meantime, but 2 Kalimbas have already been returned. The acrylic kalimba has the problem you describe, the dead end notes. On your recommendation I have now bought a Lingting K17A. What a difference with the other kalimbas. I hope to follow you for a long time. You are doing fantastic. Glad I watched this. I believe this is the perfect instrument for my busy and stressed sister. I will get her a 17 key Kalimba per your advice thank you. She most likely will never learn music theory, yet I belie e she will almost immediately find joy in playing melodies from simple tablature. I will also send her a good tab book. Hopefully one thst is smsll and can fit onto holder which clips to the kalimba and sits on her waist. So, I wish to include all she needs to see it and smile and play it and have such joy,whene er convienent for her. She has often traveled much as well, so I will get her one with a case. Perhaps a rechargeable metronome as well? IDK just to help her with rhythm. Maybe not the metronome immediately I suppose. She is in company of elderly women generally and has an ancient cat, so the kalimabas soft mellow pleasant notes and ease of use and make it perfect for her. Its a display and conversation piece as well really. Also, nice kalimbas are not expensive. I live in a broken down ancient van with my sweet doggy, and play ukeleles and harmonicas and wood spoons and such, so inexpensive is wonderful for such joy to share. Im very excited, because she can have no reasonable objection, and I believe this will bring her joy repeatedly, perhaps throughout life.

I made a crocheted cover for my kalimba..

It doesn't solve my problem. Thank you for confirming my idea of just retuning to the sharps/flats in a key. I'm wondering what to do for songs that have sharps which also appears as naturals within. Would having two kalimba's help. Or would the instruments likely have different sound so the sharps/flats will stand out?
