It was far more dangerous than the insomniac version because some of the infected civilians could perfectly blend in with others, spreading the infection while appearing normal. To make matters worse, the symbiote started infecting metahumans like Electro, wolverine, and black cat. Also, the symbiote vulture went around creating flying infected variants that threatened to leave the city and spread the symbiotes even further. That's the difference between insomniac and WOS; in WOS, the symbiotes actually feel like a real threat that required intervention from other marvel heroes and villains to stop them.
