That was interesting, when browsing motherboards I find it often difficult to figure out the differences in features between models, even from the same manufacturer.

Hey, Phil's in the house! Welcome, love your channel! Rogue said hi from a fellow Aussie! kzbin.info ^ Phil's KZbin channel, he has some awesome stuff there... Regarding feature differences... isn't that the truth! Do we really need 17 different models of motherboard from one company? Sometimes the only difference is WiFi, or the sound chip is Realtek 892 vs 887, or Realtek LAN vs Intel LAN. Minor difference to make a new board.

@@TechDeals didn't we see what 30+ boards from one of the companies, all using X570? It's stupid (and costs more too) keep the amount down, like a cheap barebones model, a good midrange and a bells n whistles board. I am also one of those that don't get the point of wireless on a "gamer" board, we have WIRED for best latency/stability and it is a "waste of money" aka more expensive board without giving anything. Use Realtek LAN on the cheapo board, then Intel LAN on the midrange and top range board and so on and for gods sake put proper VRM heatsinks on, they could do it in the 90's with nice fins and they look nice too, now they are alu vedges covered in plastic (we are finally beginning to see proper heatsinks again

@@LiLBitsDK The X570 customer being very different to the mainstream Ryzen customer, they have money and will spend, so it is worth the speculation on motherboards because if you win that battle you will get a name for yourself across all Ryzen 3000 boards and that goodwill will last a while. So they are realising lots of boards to see what sticks. It will calm down and some of those boards won't be around for long. With the cheaper boards it is different as those customers may not upgrade as they don't need to because even a R1 board will supportR3 in many cases. That said there isn't much SFF/ITX for the R3, probably because of the VPN thing.

@@TechDeals Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me out here, I was thing of buying a new board to upgrade from my 2013 build. (I5 3470 and z68 gd80) To a modern one, I was browsing for new motherboards when I came with 4 potential solutions. 1. Was a z370 killer sli from asrock, at an incredible 103 dollar price brand new. 2. Was an msi z370-a pro at 115$ brand new aswell. 3. Was an asrock z370 pro4 at 119$ 4.And last but not least, within my 130$ budget for a motherboard, was the asus prime p-II at 124$ Of course there was the msi tomahawk at 140, but I don´t think I will be getting that one. So can anyone share a bit of advice and suggest me what would be the best option you would consider? Thanks in advance. If there is a particularely good motherboard out there that you would reccomend within 140-150$ price point im all open, but only if you feels like it is really good.

Enjoy "flexing" your i5 non-k while it gets slower and slower with every patch for spectre/meltdown. Only an idiot would buy intel at this point.

awesome video. I bought the i5-9600k with the slightly cheaper Gigabyte Z390 UD motherboard, and that's completely fine by me. I did some research after buying those componends and there are quite a lot of videos saying that the 9600k is not the best CPU to buy. but after some research, the 9600k is still 2,8% faster on average than the i7-8700k in the usual benchmark games as of right now, and it's a lot cheaper! so i'm quite happy for someone finally confirming that 9600k + Z390 is a solid build :)

I got a Z370M D3H because went with the locked i7 8700... it was a great cheaper pairing, the 8700 is yet another 50 bucks cheaper than the unlocked 8700K but thanks to the Z370M chipset I can BCLK it to a 4.45ghz all cores locked and also overclock memory, all with an inexpensive Hyper 212X. Bottom line is that for R5 2600 build pricing I got the i7 8700 at it's most optimal setting and it's enough gaming CPU to *fully* drive my GTX 1080 Ti therefore I feel it was the best value all around.

Most of the pc games are stuck in a rut these days. maybe when the consoles change to the next generation i might upgrade. as of now, 4k and super high frame rates are the only reason to upgrade but i dont think thats worth it yet. content creation took a hit with the intel vulnerability but still, not enough to care just yet. but its coming.

ASRock Z370 Extreme4 and K6 are great budget Z370 boards. For Z390, I'd go with either Aorus Elite, Aorus Pro or Aorus Ultra, depending on your budget. They have the same (decent) VRM, the difference is in connectors and bells & whistles. Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi is what I consider a sweetspot, a good, well rounded board that's not too expensive. If you're into SFF like me, ASRock has the best ITX boards for intel (Z series, at least). Both Z370 Fatal1ty Gaming-ITX/ac and Z390 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ac are the best Intel ITX boards right now. Gigabyte's and MSI's Z390 ITX boards are very good too. I would skip Asus, as they're simply overpriced while offering nothing worth the price difference over competition, unless you aim for the top tier boards. Their highest tier mobos are still great, even if expensive.

I just upgraded someone from a z270 board with i5 7400 and a gtx 1060 3gb. He bought a 9900K, EVGA 2080TI Dark, Coolermaster Masterliquid Maker 92, 32GB G.Skill 3600mhz CL19, gigabyte z390 gaming X. I swapped out cpu/motherboard/ram/video card, and booted up to his existing windows 10 install, activated itself with absolutely zero fuss, just clicked activate windows. GOOD 2 GO I was hoping he's pick up an Aorus Master, but I don't think he really cares and he does not like RGB (either do I). Seems like the i9-9900K was fine and the RAM clocked to 3600 just fine. Tech, I think if you are buying an Intel, its very wise to jump right into the Z390 at this point. Maybe if you bought an i3 or something you might want less, but honestly if you are buying i3 or i5 you are buying the wrong CPU and should be buying Ryzen. ALSO, 9900 non-k is out in the retail channel, thoughts?

Hey Phil, sort of broad question here, but I’m planning on building a new gaming pc in about 2-3 years, and I was wondering what you (or anyone else here who knows) think I should buy for a cpu. I was looking into the i7-9700K, but now I’m not sure after hearing what you said about more threads from the 8700K. One of the games I’m definitely trying to gear my rig towards playing well is the Witcher 3. Also, bc this is a future build, do you think its worth looking into the i9-9900K for my cpu instead? I know the price right now for it is way higher than what I’m willing to pay for a cpu, but do you think it ls price will decrease within the next 3 years to where it might be around the mid-$300 level? I know thats probably wishful thinking but I cant help but wonder. Thanks!

Hi Tech Deals! thank you for this video, highly informative, as always. This gave me a better insight when it came to boards and processors, however; I'm planning to build a PC from scratch and I want to keep my budget within $1500-1700 range. I'll use this PC mainly for gaming in 1080p and 144 fps, and I'll only max out my cash for directly gaming-related parts. I'm thinking of Buying a B360M motherboard paired with an i7-8700(not planning to overclock), along with an RTX 2070 super. (I currently use an i5-4570 on an Asus B85M-G with a GTX 1060) Should I still upgrade my motherboard to the Z series even if I'm not planning to overclock? My perspective on mobos is that I just need 4 USB slots, minimum. I want this gaming setup to last me at least 5-7 years without any issue. Thank you very much for your help.

@Tech Deals, i'm building a computer using PC Part Picker. I pieced up a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ULTRA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard with an Intel Core i9-9900K and for storage, i'm wanting to use a Samsung 970 Evo Plus. There is a compatibility issue with the board and the Samsung 970 Evo Plus, the site is saying "The motherboard M.2 slot #1 shares bandwidth with SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports. When the M.2 slot is populated, two SATA 6.0 Gb/s ports are disabled." So, if i use another M.2 port on the motherboard, will this still affect the SATA 6.0 ports?

Best hardware video on YT this far in 2019. Nobody can explain complex hardware choices like you. Your level of research you could have written a book about it. Motherboards are rocket science-confusing for somebody that updates their rig once every 5 years. I'll recommend this to everybody I know. My dealer are pushing 8gen boards that needs a BIOS update with an accepted CPU. Thanks for saving my ass.

i had a dell xps 8930 with an 8700k that used their own proprietary z370 (had wifi and bluetooth though because the matx form factor), but i wanted to do a case swap, so i figured i'd upgrade the motherboard -- so i ended up going with an msi mpg z390m gaming. for a small board, this thing is pretty packed! thanks for the videos, they're extremely informative.

Great Content! Can not wait to see this comparison when made for the Ryzen 300-500 series boards. Also I appreciate a throwback to the standard "Tech featured" video. You are the important thing in this video. I prefer the content with YOU in it. Now stop paying for that video content and just shelf-it buddy :) Your fans want YOU!

The point is.. Higher price = more features Imma go with lower features then, but I would like to ask some questions.. is it okay to get H310 chipsets to run in i5 9400F ? Or do you still suggest H370 chipsets to fit in the i5 9400F ?

I have a pre-built system with an Asrock H110M-HDV i5-7500 16 GB 2400 Mhz Gigabyte 3x Fan RTX 2060 (upgraded from a Manli GTX 1060) I bought the Gigabyte 3x Fan RTX 2060 based on your recommendation of your RTX 2060 video and it's awesome! (i also used the affiliate link) Now I want to replace the CPU and motherboard. I want to buy a i7-8700k I don't need to buy a new CPU and Mobo immediately, I'll leave myself time until i'm 100% sure what Mobo I want to buy.

thanks for the magnificent information man, really appreciated, i am buying the core i9-9900K and i was searching for a motherboard, now i will get the Z390, but which to pick the MSI TOMAHAWK ? or ASUS ROG STRIX ? because i can't see the diff even in the price it is not a big diff., can you help me please to pick a mid tower case ? i have a cooler master k281 but i dont know if it will do the work or i should change it because i am afraid it will not fit not a lot of room, thanks again. edit: after i continued the video when you are talking about core i9, can i get ASRock Z390 Steel Legend Socket 1155 Motherboard ? it is diff than the taichi ? because the taichi one we dont have it here in the market.

Hello Tech. Is a 8th Generation CPU still reasonable for updating my 3rd Gen i7 or should i go for the 9th Generation. Considering Prince and Features. Going for a 500-1000$ build for a solid Allround experience. Thanks in Advance 👍

Hi , I subscribed your channel because I really like the way you covered everything thoroughly . I just bought a Gigabyte Aorus Pro wifi board hoping to do some RGB lighting but heard horror stories about the Fusion 2.0 software. In your opinion, should I keep and build on this board or sell it cheap and buy something else ? I appreciate your wisdom, thanks.
