Can't speak on any other brands because I haven't owned their products, but GoPro customer service has been OUTSTANDING for me. Already replaced my cameras twice when it was damaged, no questions asked. I now own two GoPro Fusions and a 7 Hero Black. Hey! I bought an Insta360 One X three months ago. And I am happy with it! It is an awesome camera and there are endless ways to be creative with it. But I am very disappointed of Insta360 in general. I have several problems with the smartphone-camera work. I cannot download photos from the camera to my Huawei Mate 9, it only works with my Apple IPad. After stressfull hours and hours I figured out, that there is a problem with my SD-Card in the phone. You HAVE to use your internal storage to work with the app. And my internal storage is just too small... That is a huge disadvantage in my opinion. The Insta360 support is horrible, too. So just consider this before buying. If you have an IPhone or if you work with Apple in general, then it is a super good camera. Have fun with it :D

Syncing an audio recording in post isn't that hard, but placing the mic is, particularly if we want decent ambisonic audio. How do the stereo cameras even map the audio to the video? It only really seems clear cut for the Theta V (which has 4 mics) or Evo in 180 mode (stereo with one mic below each lens).

I am adding more and more One X footage my mix of standard and 360 videos. Yes 360 has a "novelty" value, but the things it can contribute to a shoot are incredible. I recent set up my tripod in a replica American Revolution Fort and just pressed the start button and let it go for 30 minutes. I took my 4K Sony Camcorder and shot concurrent exteriors of a great musket and cannon battle. Editing and mixing these together will be a bit of challenge, and I might be asking you for some help for the process.

I have both insta360 one X and GoPro Fusion. As for me, for what we do (jet skiing), the main advantage GoPro Fusion has is that the camera is waterproof without a case. In order to protect the camera from the splashing water Insta 360 one X needs to be used with the "bulky" case, it adds an extra unwanted weight to the slim and perfectly shaped camera and you have to use antifog inserts to get rid of the moisture inside the case. If for you there is no need for the camera to be waterproof I would recommend Insta 360 one X. The perfect slim form factor and if you are into mobile editing on the fly, Insta 360 one X takes the cake 100%. As of for me, I'm editing only on a desktop, so there is no difference, Fusion's workflow is fine for me on Adobe Premiere. When in comes to a video quality both of them are very similar but I would give an extra point to Insta 360 one X only because of the 3k 100fps slow mo option which GoPro Fusion doesn't have. Both of the camera's are really good, at the end of the day, it's just a metter of preference and the price.

Had my Mi Sphere for a couple years now. Unfortunately they have nearly stopped all software and FW development. At the time of purchase, they were creating all kinds of updates. Problems with very long exposures and timelapse which I imagine could be easily fixed with updates has never happened. Bugs: Every exposure is different color and brightness if shoot jpeg. Shooting RAW need more than 15 seconds to write file requiring at least 30 seconds between exposures. They did quickly fix a recent software issue that prevented copying files from the camera. I can no longer recommend the Mi Sphere.

Good lineup review again! What is your take on the camera accessory delays with both Osmo and Insta360 cameras? I just heard that my insta360 One X remote is not going to be available for a couple of months. Same with Osmo accessories that we waited for for a long time. Given the quick turnaround with new cameras, it does not make sense to wait for basic accessories for months. 🤔

Thanks! I have no idea, but I don’t think it’s super easy to create accessories that are invisible to 360 cameras aka the venture case which is why it would have taken so long. Not sure about the remote.

Great video! Thanks!! I own the fusion since 3 weeks now and I love it. Except for two important reasons: First the mentioned super bad stitching workflow. And second it does no 360 video under water or even near water, because I cannot prevent the front lense from fogging up!! Somehow the front lense unlike the back lense is not hermetically closed against humidity from the battery slot or whatever. This destroys all my footage when the camera cools down in touch of water. If I cannot solve this issue, I would say as a result the Fusion cannot be considered water resistant.

Great review. I took our insta360 One X on a trip to Italy and loved the results. But, I have to defend the Garmin Virb 360 for it's GPS data overlay features, we use in aviation (homebuilt aircraft). It's also the best form factor for aviation (in the airstream): low and dense, compared to the others being tall and weak at the tripod mount. Yes, it's overpriced.

Just a software-only update hint you may not be aware of: the current, September 2018 version of Samsung's ActionDirector stitcher for both their cameras is WAY better than the previous versions. It has much better horizont straightening and stitching with not very much a speed hit; that is, it hasn't slowed down considerably (still WAAY faster than Yi's stitcher). This also means you're no longer forced to use the pretty expensive Mistika VR to do the 2016/2017 stitching but can use Samsung's free utility instead. Too bad it only produces usable results under Windows - the MacOS version of the new stitcher is as crappy as before. And the stitcher still doesn't work in Parallels for 2017 videos, only for 2016 ones. Now with the new stitcher, I delegated my 2017 to be my on-Bolex H8 8mm film camera for documenting my 8mm shooting as it physically just fits in the pretty narrow opening on top of the camera. (See my channel for my "8mm Making of" videos if interested; the on-H8 shots have all been made with the 2017 and stitched with the new Samsung ActionDirector.)

@@BenClaremont Do you know any spots around Sydney (aside from the obvious) where I could get some cool 360 motorbike pics? If you're keen and wanna join us, I could organise for a group to be there...

Hi Ben, I'm looking to buy a 360 Camera for filming, would you recommend the Insta360 One X for filming in 360?

I recently got Rylo at $200 with the adventure case + the shooting grip included. At $400, I wouldn't have bought this, but at the half price, I think it's a great option. I like the fact that it allows me to swap the battery as well. GoPro Hero 7 Silver, which is priced at $200 as well, did not allow me to do that.

So what do u think about your prodiction? Gopro and insta360 go are released. It seems one x 2 will be delayed as one x sale is still going strong.

lol, I tried the fusion 360. I did have some issues with that as it taking a while to process the videos. I was told to I can't use selfie sticks in the museums so I'd have to hold it with the small stand. I made a quick time-lapse walking from Metro station to my home and then I found some neighbor's dogs at the neighborhood park so you can see the dogs zipping back and forth super fast.

Hi Bob, and thanks for great reviews! However, for me personally, I`m missing some considerations on form factor and ruggedness in your reviews. I mostly use my camera (virb360, but looking for upgrade) for mountain biking and skiing, which also means falling and crashing, so the camera needs to be able to take some beating (virb is strong here). The camera also needs to have attachment options for helmet mounting, without looking totally stupid, which most of the current 360 cameras would. In case of the latter, size also matters, and this could be a selling point for e.g. the Rylo (which you miss). Maybe a bit more on mechanical interfaces in general? It would also be interesting to know if the cameras are splash- and/or water-proof. E.g. which IP class. Keep up the good work! Thanks.

Hi Ben. Just came across your videos. Really insightful stuff man, thanks for the great content. Quick random question, I'm a musician and I'm looking to buy a 360/or 180 camera to place it in the studio to capture recording sessions. I'm not necessarily looking to create 3D/360 content, but rather capture moments and then pick my angles for regular 2D content. I'm torn between going the 360 route vs 180. Any thoughts/recommendations? Many thanks

I’d say go for the One X as it’s both easy to use and very easy to reframe your content as 2D flat photos 👍

One unique feature none of the 360 cameras has is a dedicated hand controller with SD storage for those large video files. I find it a nuisance to have to bring out my phone to shoot with my Theta S, although it is awesome to be able to just attach the photos to an SMS for insanely fast sharing. For my activities, the ability to share my photos quickly is a godsend. The controller could screw on to the tripod screw so it does not get lost.It would then have a lanyard for hanging on a belt loop or around your neck or wrist. Quick download to the phone for fast sharing is an obvious feature. Another nice feature would be a Mino Flip type easy USB charge/ upload. This could then allow easy recharge from a powerbank when out and about and BEEP-the battery runs out, like what happened earlier this week in Canberra. Battery ran out and I was out of action for 360 shooting. Could even have a powerbank / external battery inside a ground spike for those worm eye shots. Worm eye shots are where a dedicated controller with a half decent range would be useful. An astronomy version 360 camera would also have a market. It would have 1 inch sensors and removable IR filters. In terms of ISO, it needs to be suitable for whole sky photography with a fast aperture and long exposure times. Perhaps built-in stacking. Could you imagine the awesome aurora shots you could get or suitable foreground with the full majesty of the Milky Way in winter. Stir point for Ben- I picked up my Theta S for $72 as my introductory 360 camera. I think in wide angle, so get good use from this entry level camera. Way too stingy to fork out thousands for a Z1. For the extra $$$$$, I would want a huge leap in resolution and the dedicated controller, perhaps those astronomy features.

Thanks for the video. I'd like to record longer videos, about 100 minutes. Will some of these cameras support that?
@BenClaremont5 жыл бұрын
Yes most of them. Of my final 4, Fusion is the only one that doesn’t cut out after 30 mins. At the same time 100 mins is waaaaay too long for a 360 video lol

Good reporting , very detailed . What can i do to show my 3D in the future as my next tv will not be 3D .Have you experimented with 3D projectors .And 360 videos on the VR glasses i find uncomfortable , trying to use spectacles.Have you tried the prescription lens option.

Great reviews, BTW! I love my Insta360 One X; considering selling my GoPro Fusion as it is a pain in the ass to edit etc. (as you pointed out). No Fusion 2 for me unless they improve the Fusion app on the Mac.
