Definitely wouldn't recommend it for a duty holster. The convenience is understandable, however if someone was attempting to remove the pistol that extension would provide easier activation of release button. We are aware of a few instances where that thumb release extension could have been a serious safety issue. One of the officers actually upgraded his holster to a level 4. The officers was in a violent struggle..... Thank you for sharing this video 🙏👌

Thank you for the input and I like to hear from others in the field concerning real world data and good thought out responses. Yes the nub mod is convenient and fast especially when drawing. I am always concerned about being in a knock down drag out fight where I am fighting over my pistol. Defeating holsters are something the bad guys are training in. I will always default back to training and how weapon retention as well as force options when in the middle of a struggle. It’s better to have it happen during training than out on the streets. More levels of retention is a great thing. But we also do not want to hinder our draw. Because as you know when we make the decision to draw we are already behind. But lastly thank you for watching and leaving a great comment! I am very appreciative of the time you spent watching and commenting.

To me, the whole idea of using the ALS is so that it would be difficult for an opponent to pull out my gun. Making the nub bigger somehow defeats that purpose IMO.
@AngrySargeG01 Жыл бұрын
You would be correct in your thoughts however the level 3 nub is not as big. So for SWAT, CID Mil and some off duty applications it could fill that role. Also you wouldn’t carry a level 1 on duty either. You want as many levels to defeat on the holster as you can have. I get that aspect. I was mainly presenting a product that could help you get a faster draw when you need it. Having been on the Mil/Civ LE side in shootings I have definitely had my fair share of data to lead me to my own conclusions. But I am also a student and love to hear other people’s experiences and opinions. So thank you for sharing. I really appreciate the watch and comment. Definitely means a lot to a regular dude like me.
@milspecmike844011 ай бұрын
Nah, ALS is about mechanical retention over the friction retention of your typical OWB holster. If you are a LEO or open carrying and worried about retention from another person, you’d want to opt for a multi-layered retention holster.

It is what it is. Going from the old Safariland Police Dept level 3 holsters...lower snap, upper snap then down and out, when does a standard become standard? Interesting option but does it also, then, make it easier for an attacker to access the ALS release? Do you think the size of the knob from Safariland is by design or is it a defect? Granted, an end user can choose for themselves and that's OK, I just wonder if I'm doing more harm than good, or if its more good than harm.
@AngrySargeG01 Жыл бұрын
I think honestly it will be easier to access. However if an attacker wanted to get your gun whether or not you had the mod wouldn’t matter. Weapons retention training will help you understand how to better retain it. I however look at it as an aid to speeding up your draw with less risk. You definitely have a great thought process about it. Your approach is one I thought of myself and wondered but I remembered someone determined to gain access either with the mod or not will gain access.

Your thumb shouldn't be hanging way out there to begin with. These holsters are meant to mimic your natural grip of the pistol with very minimal action for release. This is no different than the old Blackhawk holsters. For some reason people considered the Blackhawk holster release to be a button that needs to be pressed which it was not. It was meant to naturally have your finger in a position as it would between the slide and frame above the trigger guard as most of us have been trained for years to keep your finger out of the trigger guard until your weapon is presented to a target you are willing to destroy. I do understand that everybody's hands and fingers are not the same so this modification will probably work for most with those types of issues. I look at things like this as no different than people modifying safeties with wider blades, extended mag releases and other ergonomical modifications to fit the users hand.
@AngrySargeG01 Жыл бұрын
I 100% agree with your comment. It is meant for that I know under stress I have missed the ALS nub a few times and I know it’s a training issue not the equipment. However my only add on to your comment would be if you can have a tool or addition which would ensure success every time why wouldn’t you add that. I can tell you at my last agency one of our deputies had part of his thumb missing due to an accident and he had a hard time with engaging the ALS system and this piece once I brought it to his attention has helped him out a lot. Thank you for your comment I enjoyed reading what you had to say and it was very valid especially about the Blackhawk Serpa. Still not a holster I would recommend for any duty capacity but I understand the purpose and carried one for a couple years in the Army. Again thank you for stopping in and commenting as well as watching. I really do appreciate the insight from others.
